now at 5:00 the royal baby's introduction to the world. the duke and duchess of sussex showing off their newborn son for the very first time just a few minutes ago and jessica will have the video and the interview at the live desk coming up in a few minutes. good morning on this wednesday, may 8th. it's 5:00 a.m. >> you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. here is meteorologist mike nicco. thank you very much. here is a look at live doppler 7. a lot of cloud cover out there. i'm not hearing of any reports of drizzle, so a much drier commute though the cloud deck is sitting on top of us once again. increasing sunshine today and a little bit warmer temperatures than we dealt with yesterday. we'll start off in the low to mid-50s. we'll hit the 60-degree mark at the coast this afternoon. upper 60s with sunshine around our bay and inland neighborhoods by noon. what a great lunch hour to be outside. 74 to 78 at 4:00. a pretty nice evening on the way, also. 65 to 66 degrees. how about the commute? here is alexis. we're starting to look better getting out of tracy,

mike. we had some road work that went late, paving work overnight. it was supposed to be done by 4:00. it didn't get done until about 4:32. so checking these speeds, we still have some residual delays all the way up to 58 miles an hour. south of there on 580 you're still stop and go there at best at nine miles an hour. we are hearing we have a new crash around north flynn. i'll keep an eye on that, too. a quick check of the bay bridge toll plaza, we are filling in but so far no metering lights. i want to update you on what's happening at this very minute in colorado. it's a press conference that we're watching here, our team at the live desk from the douglas county sheriff's office. officials there updating the investigation into yesterday's school shooting outside denver that left one 18-year-old student dead and eight others injured, so we're watching that, monitoring it. here is the very latest. shots were fired at the school in highlands ranch just before

2:00 p.m. two suspects are in custody right now. authorities say both of them were stud 18-year-old devon erickson, and the other, at this point, only identified as a transgender teen. investigators say the two teenagers began firing shots in two separate locations. more than 1,800 in the k-12 school were immediately put on lockdown. we know this morning at least two students are still in serious condition this morning, again, at least eight hurt. back to you. >> thank you, jess kachlt in today's "gma first look" we are hearing from the mother of molly tibbetts. >> she was killed while out for a jog last summer. an undocumented immigrant is charged with the crime. tibbetts spent part of her childhood in ped moniedmont. it was indescribable and it

that is the cal state east bay jazz band putting on the show in honor of victor mcilhaney. his mother, lynette, was among those in attendance. victor went to cal state east bay before he transferred to usc. the next story sparking a lot of outrage, a san francisco teacher fighting breast cancer is paying for her own substitute while on medical leave, and it's because of a state law around for at least 40 years. abc 7 news is not identifying the glen park elementary teacher because her friends say the attention is causing her extra stress. teachers get ten sick days. the cost of a substitute teacher is taken out of their paycheck. if more time is needed teachers can use money from what is called a, quote, catastrophic sick leave bank for 85 days and teachers can collectively donate to that bank.

14 miles an hour on 580. we're almost back to normal and briefly had a crash involving two vehicles around north flynn road but that has cleared a. quick check outside, san jose, 280 and 17. inbound traffic filling in still very light on the southbound side but no major problems if you're traveling in san jose. new this morning, one person is being treated for smoke inhalation after a two-alarm fire in a downtown santa rosa apartment. fire erupted in a six-floor unit at fourth street and mendocino avenue just after midnight. firefighters responded within minutes and evacuated the entire building. the fire was quickly put out by sprinklers and contained to that unit. a dozen people displaced are being cared for by the red cross and the cause is under investigation. one student is dead, at least eight others hurt after a shooting at a school near denver, colorado. police say two students opened fire on their classmates setting off a panic throughout the

our website, abc7news.com. rebuilding is under way in paradise with 100 crews of 10 to 15 people each cleaning up every day. the region has a long way to go to recover. another issue with most of the population gone businesses are suffering. 50% say they intend to move back. 86 people were killed in paradise with 18,000 structures burned. a federal judge plans to order pg&e's board of directors to visit the cities of paradise and san bruno. they want the board to see the result of i the dsa the judge wants all of this to happen by july.

a break friday. more showers and thunderstorms in tahoe. a horrible story overnight in new york city where a family of six was killed in an apartment fire and four of them this morning said to be children. investigators are still determining a cause. the fire appears to be an accident. an adult man, adult woman, two young girls and two young boys were killed at the scene. others in the building managed to escape this is making headlines across the nation. it is the deadliest fire in new york since the 2017 fire in the bronx that killed 13 people. reggie, back to you. new this morning, b.a.r.t. police are searching for a hit-and-run driver. they say he hit a b.a.r.t. rider at the dublin/pleasanton station. you're looking at surveillance photos.
