restroom calling out black students. here's a look at the message. it details who would be targeted and where in a may 9th shooting. california high school principal christopher george sent a letter saying there would be considerable police presence and additional administrators on hand today in the wake of the deadly school shooting in colorado, parents we found yesterday say they are not willing to take any chances and will be keeping their students home today especially since this school has received threats before. >> i feel like i'm sending her to a war zone every day. she uses her desk as protection. it's really scary. >> it's a terrible conversation to have with your child. this is a time when they're finishing their school year, getting ready to graduate. and, by the way, you also have to be careful because there might be a shooting tomorrow. >> reporter: what's still unknown is who is behind the threat. reporting live, jobina fortson, abc 7 news.

>> so scary. thank you, jobina. in colorado students walked out of last night's vigil for the victims of the deadly shooting at the s.t.e.m. school in highlands ranch. >> i'm going to stop everybody because i don't know -- i don't know what's happening. >> students were angered by speeches from politicians and anti-gun advocates claiming they weren't allowed to speak. students eventually returned to the gym and spoke as part of an open mic gathering. this morning we are learning more about the hero student who police say tackled the gunman during tuesday's shooting in colorado. police say 18-year-old kendrick castillo charged the gunman who burst into his class pinning him against the wall, protecting other students before being fatally shot. >> when i see the people that he saved, it makes me happy. i know my son wouldn't have had it any other way. but, as any parent will tell you, it's a heck of a tradeoff.

>> the tct m tir rstourt appearances yesterday. an 18-year-old boy and a teenage girl face nearly 30 charges including murder. in the east bay hundreds of teachers are ready to strike. teachers in the new haven unified school district have voted to walk off the job on may 20th if a cntract agreement can't be reached. the district includes nine schools and 11,000 students across union city and south hayward. teachers are asking for a 20% raise over two years. the district says they can't afford the demands. the battle between democrats and the trump administration appears likely to end up in court. this morning at the live desk i am tracking the fallout over the mueller report. the house judiciary committee voted yesterday to hold attorney general william barr in contempt after he missed a hearing last week. and it's still unclear whether he'll comply with the

committee's subpoena for testimony later this month. congressional democrats want barr to release an unredacted version of the mueller report. >> they are stonewalling the american people from all information and this cannot be. >> after two years, nothing. no collusion. now the >> in fact, yesterday at that rally president trump touted his executive privilege over mueller's findings. it was a rally held in florida. meanwhile his son, donald trump jr., is being subpoenaed by the senate intelligence committee, and that committee wants to question him again about his involvement in the trump tower meeting with a russian lawyer. back to you. los angeles police are crediting an anonymous tip for leading them to a huge stockpile of weapons. investigators seized more than 1,000 rifles, handguns, semiautomatic weapons at a house. this aerial video shows federal

agents sorting and documenting that stockpile. officers also found ammunition and equipment to make guns. police arrest add man on charges of selling weapons illegally. 4:37 now. governor gavin newsom is expected to release a revised state budget plan today, that $144 billion budget he proposed in january allots more money for public education, expands paid parental leave, and sets aside funding for more navigation saernl centers. newsom wants to eliminate the sales tax on diapers and period products and wants to create a new income tax credit for low-income parents and expand child care services. north bay homeowners remove an oak tree on their property and now it's costing them more than half a million bucks. a one-time homeless oakland couple goes from the streets to courtside at the warriors game. amazon accused of spying on kids and putting their privacy at risk. all of that ahead. first it is 4:37 and you're never more than seven minutes

evening 65 and sunshine at 7:00 and for the south bay a little bit faster with the sunshine. temperature jumps from 63 to about 69 at 1:00 to low 70s this afternoon. again, a very mild and comfortable afternoon. i know you mentioned you had to use the windshield wipers. i did several times this morning. how is the commute going? >> overall we're looking great. it has not been a big issue. mostly green on our traffic maps. solano way on ramp, sounds like a trailer and a cab separated. they are trying to find a tow truck to handle that type of situation. as you can see we're in the green through that area. mass transit looking good, too. no delays yet. ace 1 out of the central valley on time.

squeezing out more moisture. it's this area of what we call an upper level low that's going to back its way and develop towards us. that's why we will see showers develop across the sierra and that's what will back towards us as we head into the overnight hours and tomorrow. chico. 82 in fresno. mid-to upper 60s from san diego to monterey. a chance of thunderstorms today, tomorrow, saturday and sunday across the see area. in the north bay a sonoma county couple will have to pay almost $600,000 for uprooting an historic oak tree. it is believed to be 180 years old. it was legally protected. the couple dug up the oak with the intention of moving it to another piece of land, but then it died. the uprooted tree was discovered in 2014 when a neighbor reported heavy equipment and digging on the couple's property. the conservation group sued the couple and a judge ordered them to pay for environmental

restoration. this is an uplifting story a. homeless couple has a place to live thanks to the generosity of a man living in one of the east bay's wealthiest neighborhoods. last night the couple got the vip treatment at the warriors game. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard met up with them. >> reporter: watching the warriors take on the rockets is the last place greg and marie ever thought they'd be. >> never dreamed i would be at a playoff game. >> reporter: three months ago they were homeless living on the streets of oakland. that is until a man saw their profiled by "the chronicle" and offered them a place to live free the charge at his home located inside a pricey east bay neighborhood. did you ever think you would be there? >> no. >> you never thought a person with a heart like that existed. >> reporter: they have settled in but say the transition wasn't

ea easy. at he first some piedmont neighbors weren't welcoming. >> they looked at us suspiciou. what did they mean by that, and that really offended us. >> reporter: the couple received an invite to the game by the warriors and got a turp of oracle, even got to meet point guard quinn cook before the game. >> it's an honor and a privilege to have them here tonight and their story inspires all of us. >> reporter: they say there are still challenges ahead but they hope to become self-sufficient and set out on their own soon. for now they're enjoying their favorite team live and in person. in oakland, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> that's great to see. very nice. happening today you might want to be extra cautious on your commute. >> thousands of cyclists will be on bay area roads for bike to work day. it is one of the most popular biking events of the year. hundreds of energizer stations will be set up to give bikers snacks, drinks, and a quick bike checkup if they need it. the goal is to get more people to commute on their bikes.

you can see a few splotches of green. there could be drizzle at minimum and a random shower possible. a look at our thunderstorm forecast starting at 5:00 this morning through 5:00 tomorrow. it's just about everywhere. it all depends on how far that backs towards us. the sierra will get thunderstorms but will they roll back towards us and the latest computer models. we wake up and there's drizzle around. we'll watch the low. the models have it further south. that's why the storms are kind of stopping in modesto and down around monterey but still one or two could come our way. get ready for tomorrow morning. a little drizzle a lot like this morning. some random showers. you can track live doppler 7 and tracking wonderful weather and where to take mom for mother's day. here is alexis.

house is fighting back. the homeowner has filed a complaint filing city lead remembers harassing her andgami. the town says the home is a public nuisance and modifications violate municipal code. she added dinosaur sculptures and colorful landscaping when she bought it in 2017. in the south bay the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. the golf and tennis club was told by the city the lease will not be renewed and it will have to close in six months. the mayor says the 230-acre site across from levi stadium will be converted into a me ga entertainment hub. the mayor says city space will be one of the largest retail and entertainment developments in the country. it will eventually include 1,700 residential units. >> this being built up and around could be really great. whether it's beneficial to the golfer it's not but the community it could be great. >> the city will announce which

restaurants and shops will be part of phase one next week. the mayor says one of the restaurants will be by joe montana. >> police officers and firefighters are beingd with a fantastic rescue. a newborn deer was trapped in the storm drain. brian morales squeezed, stretched and reached in to save the little bambi. >> once we found it we were able to just kind of work with it and i went in there and gave it a few pets before i started trying to mess with him too much. no one ever trained me to pull a deer out of a storm drain. we figured it out. >> the fawn is doing just fine. by the way, he has been on the job for just three months now. he did a great job. very sweet, mike. >> isn't that great when you can see something like that happen? somebody does something unusual and a great outcome.
