time. jobina fortson, abc 7 news. the controversial citywide ipo tax. san francisco supervisor gordon maher says the board of supervisors is supporting his propos proposal. he introduced it on tuesday. he said inequality could worsen with other tech companies in san francisco set to go public in the coming months. his proposal would restore a 1.5% tax on compensation, the same paid prior to 2012 when san francisco began offering tax breaks. if you're just waking up to us we'll check in with your weather and see what your traffic is like. we start with mike nicco. hi, everybody. i want to start with the winds. they're not as fast as they have been the sea breeze is relaxing. let's see how the day plans out.

we're starting off with temperatures just about the same. not hearing any reports of drizzle out there. in fact, mostly cloudy at 7:00. low to upper 50s. we're already near 70 around our ba near 60 at the coast. we'll be at 60 at the coast but mid to upper 70s. 73 to 77. that's warmer than yesterday. and a gorgeous evening on tach. look at this, if you're heading out at 7:00, adjust for temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. we'll see if the weekend will hold true to this forecast coming up. first back to alexis. good morning, mike. take you now to the east bay where it does sound like we had a disabled vehicle possibly blocking one lane, highway 24 just before the tunnel. everything is looking okay there. a wait in the cash lanes on the left side. no metering lights yet that should happen closer to 5:20. stakes are higher than ever

in president trump's trade war with china. new tariffs kicked in overnight. they're more than double what we had yesterday on $200 billion worth of goods. both nations trying to negotiate a new trade deal. the tariffs are 5% this morning. that means you'll pay more for products made in china. president trump says it's a win either way. we either get a new deal or reap the benefits in tariffs. >> i'm different than a lot of people. i happen to think tariffs for our country are very powerful. >> talks between the two sides will resume in washington this morning. the trade war is driving financial markets down. the dow closed down 138 points yesterday. the chinese government is vowing to retaliate but it has not said how yet. on the peninsula a college sports team from hawaii is supposed to be focused only on

their game at stanford this afternoon. instead, they're facing a big distraction. someone stole their passports and thousands of dollars in equipment. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo shows us what happened. >> reporter: pieces of shattered glass in this parking lot along hamilton avenue mark the spot two team vans were broken into wednesday night. the university of hawaii's women's water polo team was only blocks away having dinner at wahl burgers. they returned to this, broken glass, bags gone. >> all their equipment, passports for the international players, the coaches' computers, players' computers, media persons' cameras, everything. >> reporter: molly is the goalkeeper for the traveling team. she says the timing couldn't be worse. it's the end of a successful season and the end of a busy school year. >> they're students. they had their schoolwork in there. they're taking finals on the road. now they're not just out their equipment for the game, they're out their school stuff they need to complete their finals. >> reporter: the university's

athletic director estimates between $5,000 to $10,000 of equipment and belongings were boosted from the team vans. besides preparing for friday's game, the team is scrambling to replace passports. >> the good thing is no one got hurt. this could be so much worse. these are things that are replaceable and we'll work on what we can do to replace it. >> reporter: palo alto police are investigating the theft. they've explained the process will take time because of the number of victims. >> it's distressing. it's so horrible and sad that this could happen. these girls have worked so hard. >> reporter: an employee at a nearby business says their car was targeted in the same lot. the university of hawaii, they are sending someone out with caps and suits for the team ahead of friday's game n. palo alto, i'm amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. in the east bay two people are recovering after being shot on interstate 580. they were driving eastbound near 164th avenue in san leandro when someone fired shots from a passing car yesterday.

chp closed the highway to search for evidence. the two victims were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, and investigators are trying to determine what led up to the gunfire. in the south bay a man has life threatening injuries after a triple shooting in san jose. police say two other victims were also taken to a hospital with at least one gunshot wound each. the shooting happened yesterday afternoon. police are still investigating what led up to that shooting. repair work on the sales force transit center in san francisco is finished, but it may be a month before we see it reopen. workers have finished bolting plates. transit leaders will wait for the work to be inspected before announcing a reopening date. in the meantime contractors will be reinstalling lighting panels and other equipment. the $2.2 billion transit hub was only open for six weeks before it closed in august.

the warriors are in houston for tonight's game six. kevin durant is not with the team because he's recovering from the mild calf strain. he got hurt after a jump shot in game five on wednesday night. the initial fear was a torn achilles tendon. the team says he will be evaluated in a week, but the strain usually takes about one to two weeks to heal. if the warriors lose tonight they will return to oracle arena for game seven. abused and tossed in the trash. me meet hope, the puppy beating the odds. it is a simple parking lot now but it could soon change the lives of hundreds of people on the peninsula. k-pop fan frenzy takes over the south bay. bts who? >> this is really a thing. we are living in a cultural moment of boy bands? >> i've never even heard of the band. i was this many years old. >> it's all ahead. first, it is 4:36 and time to check in with mike nicco.

the finger. customers who are unopened cans can return for a full refund. a bill that would ban police from using facial recognition and buy metric scanners in body worn cameras has cleared a big hurdle. it was passed yesterday. the bill is the works of san francisco assemblyman who says the cameras are not meant to be used as rolling surveillance systems. this bill comes as san francisco and oakland consider banning facial recognition technology altogether. let's take a look at what's going on tomorrow. we wake up and you see cloud cover along the north bay and the coast. as we head into the afternoon, even the coast will see a little sunshine before the clouds start to return as the sun sets around 7:00 to 8:00. making breakfast for mom in bed, everything will be quiet. a little sunshine along the coast. a whole lot everywhere else and temperatures that are going to be really comfortable.
