their game at stanford this afternoon. instead, they're facing a big distraction. someone stole their passports and thousands of dollars in equipment. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo shows us what happened. >> reporter: pieces of shattered glass in this parking lot along hamilton avenue mark the spot two team vans were broken into wednesday night. the university of hawaii's women's water polo team was only blocks away having dinner at wahl burgers. they returned to this, broken glass, bags gone. >> all their equipment, passports for the international players, the coaches' computers, players' computers, media persons' cameras, everything. >> reporter: molly is the goalkeeper for the traveling team. she says the timing couldn't be worse. it's the end of a successful season and the end of a busy school year. >> they're students. they had their schoolwork in there. they're taking finals on the road. now they're not just out their equipment for the game, they're out their school stuff they need to complete their finals. >> reporter: the university's

athletic director estimates between $5,000 to $10,000 of equipment and belongings were boosted from the team vans. besides preparing for friday's game, the team is scrambling to replace passports. >> the good thing is no one got hurt. this could be so much worse. these are things that are replaceable and we'll work on what we can do to replace it. >> reporter: palo alto police are investigating the theft. they've explained the process will take time because of the number of victims. >> it's distressing. it's so horrible and sad that this could happen. these girls have worked so hard. >> reporter: an employee at a nearby business says their car was targeted in the same lot. the university of hawaii, they are sending someone out with caps and suits for the team ahead of friday's game n. palo alto, i'm amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. in the east bay two people are recovering after being shot on interstate 580. they were driving eastbound near 164th avenue in san leandro when someone fired shots from a passing car yesterday.

chp closed the highway to search for evidence. the two victims were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, and investigators are trying to determine what led up to the gunfire. in the south bay a man has life threatening injuries after a triple shooting in san jose. police say two other victims were also taken to a hospital with at least one gunshot wound each. the shooting happened yesterday afternoon. police are still investigating what led up to that shooting. repair work on the sales force transit center in san francisco is finished, but it may be a month before we see it reopen. workers have finished bolting plates. transit leaders will wait for the work to be inspected before announcing a reopening date. in the meantime contractors will be reinstalling lighting panels and other equipment. the $2.2 billion transit hub was only open for six weeks before it closed in august.
