months ago fearing a repeat of columbine at the s.t.e.m. school. the parent outlining serious issues like bullying and violence, saying some students are suicidal and violent in school and citing the high-pressure environment there. we're learning about the school's private security guard, law enforcement sources say it appears he accidentally fired at least one shot in the direction of a responding deputy. still under investigation is whether one of his stray bullets hit a student. but the guard is being called a hero by police and his company for helping subdue one of the shooters. the other shooter was disarmed by three students who leapt up from their desks, one of them 18-year-old kendrick castillo, who is set to graduate today, dying a hero. >> kendrick is like a bowling ball when he gets moving and it is very hard to stop the kid when he stops going.km in denve believe the suspects got access

to the guns used in the attack by breaking into a locked gun cabinet in the home of one of their parents. sources say investigators believe the suspects spray painted the phrase expletive society on a car belonging to one of their parents before they left for school, even reportedly trying to set the car on fire. also this morning sources kelg kmgh the motive of the alleged shooters went beyond bullying and involved revenge to others in the school. going to turn now to the east bay, berkeley police are searching for a man they say brought a gun to a middle school. the suspect is either a parent or caregiver of a student who attends martin luther king middle school. it's not clear why the parent or caregiver was on campus but police say he was gone by the time they arrived. the fbi is working to track down a person who threatened a school shooting in san ramon. it was spelled out in graffiti.

80% of students stayed home yesterday. the district says the school has received five threats this school year. one was found on the football field, at least two others were. pittsburg police are trying to determine the motive after a woman was shot in the lower torso. it happened jus before 3:30 yesterday afternoon at a home on warren way. she was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. contra costa county deputies later arrested the suspects in bay point. the man accused of killing grammy nominated rapper nipsey hustle is expected in court this morning. 29-year-old eric holder is charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm by a felon according to the l.a. county district attorney's office. holder entered a not guilty plea and if convicted as charged faces life in prison. hi there, everyone. the united states has seized a north korean cargo ship for violating international sanctions. i want to get to the story here

at the live desk. i have been tracking this throughout the morning for you. prosecutors saying the ship had been secretly exporting coal despite those sanctions and those sanctions aimed at getting the country to stop its nuclear program this seizure overnight coming just hours after north korea's leader, kim jong-un, oversaw the launch of two short-range missiles. i want to show you the pictures as well. i talked about this yesterday because this missile launch is actually the second in just a five-day span. all these developments right now really putting into question whether or not talks about denuclearization will continue to go forward or simply stall. back to you. >> jessica, thank you. happening today the city of richmond will meet with tenants and building management to investigate reports of mold, dry rot and mildew. >> it is apparently overtaking an apartment complex. abc 7 news got a firsthand look

continuing to go inside. uber raised $8.1 billion in its initial public offering. we will continue to report out here this morning and see what's going on. he will celebrate and ring in the bell. jobina fortson, abc 7 news. a big story at the live desk. the trade war between the u.s. and china really escalating and overnight while sleeping the u.s. imposed new tariffs on billions of chinese goods. those tariffs more than doubling what they were yesterday which means that you and i will most likely pay much more for chinese goods. tariffs that were 10% yesterday are 25% this morning. the trade deal talk deadline was midnight. they didn't get a deal done. president trump essentially saying that's okay but he feels the trade war is a win either way. in fact, he says we either get a new deal or reap the benefits of billions of dollars in tariffs. i'm different than a lot of people. i happen to think tariffs for

our country are very powerful. >> the trade war is driving financial markets down. the dow closed down 138 points yesterday. we're going to see how the markets react again this morning. the chinese government has vowed to retaliate but hasn't yet quite said how. back to you. on the peninsula the university of hawaii's women's water polo team is in town to play cal in the ncaa quarterfinal this is afternoon at stanford, but their stay so far hasn't gone well. two team vans were broken into wednesday night. crooks took their equipment, cameras and passports. the auto burglary happened while the team was having dinner at wahlburgers blocks away. they estimate between $5,000 and $10,000 of equipment and belongings were boosted from the team vans. he says besides preparing for today's game, the team is now

scrambling to replace passports. >> the good thing is no one got hurt this could be so much worse. these are things that are all replaceable and we'll work on what we can do to replace it. >> someone from the university of hawaii is flying in replacement team caps and suits ahead of this afternoon's match. in the east bay two people are recovering after being shot on interstate 580. they were driving eastbound near 164th avenue in san leandro when someone fired shots from a passing car yesterday. chp closed the freeway to search for evidence. the two victims were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. investigators are trying to determine what led up to the gunfire. and in the south bay a man has life threatening injuries after a triple shooting in san jose. police say two other victims were also taken to a hospital with at least one gunshot wound each. the shooting happened inside after cafe on center and tully roads. police are still investigating what happened before that

shooting. no one there has been arrested. repair work on the sales force center. they have finished bolting steel plates to support cracked beams. they will wait for the work to be inspected before announcing a reopening date. in the meantime contractors will be reinstalling lighting panels and other equipment. it was only open six weeks before it closed in august. 5:36 now. the warriors are in houston for tonight's game six against the rockets. kevin durant is not with the team because he is covering from a mild calf strain. he got hurt after a jump shot in game five. the initial fear was perhaps a torn achilles tendon. the team says that he will be evaluated in a week but a strain like this usually takes one to two weeks to heal f. they lose tonight they will return to oracle for game seven. much more still ahead including a tiny puppy beating

we got this overnight into news rooms. a lightning strike is what sparked this huge fire at a mansion in texas. flames engulfed this $2.5 million mansion in friendswood, about 25 miles outside of houston. firefight hers a tough time with this. they couldn't put their ladders up because there was lightning. they let this thing burn. it's also a popular event center. it was known as the white house ranch. it's 5:43 now. donations are pouring in for a tortured puppy found in a dumpster in coachella. before we show you the photo we should let you know the puppy is doing okay. someone found him in a plastic bag with its tail cut off and bad burn marks. a rescue group is caring for the puppy they have named hope a. go fund me page has raised more than $8,000 for hope's care.
