is sunny with low 30s around the tahoe valley airport. near 70 at south lake. the rest of the bay will enjoy 70s around the north bay and mid-70s inland and nice for mother's day. chris? >> thank you. there's biz around the bay area presidential candidates. mayor pete buttigieg hosted a fund raiser in san francisco and we sat down with kamala harris for an exclusive one-on-one interview. both are neck and neck in the latest polls. last night tickets for mayor pete's fund raiser were $25 and they sold out. cornell bernard was there as he spoke to the packed crowd. >> please help me and welcome the next president of the united states, pete buttigieg. >> justin brought his husband pete buttigieg to the stage of this grassroots fund-raiser in san francisco. pete buttigieg told the sold-out crowd they needed a campaign slogan. >> lock her up, build a wall.

538 square foot adu in january, short for accessory dwelling unit, the granny flat is growing in popularity across the bay area. >> i've never been a trendsetter until now. >> we checked with the city of san jose and it took applications. so in 2018 the number of te.lications in san jose mo and his wife decided to build a one-bedroom unit in the backyard to keep their daughter and son-in-law close. >> in other places they'd probably well enough off that they could afford to buy a house. well, they can't here in the valley. >> a recent report ranks the san jose metro as the most expensive area in the country to buy a home. stanley acton is behind the baines unit. the keeping families together piece of it seems to be a really big part of this. all part of what he says is one answer to the bay area's housing crisis. >> what it is doing is providing

mother's day weekend. >> you are right about the slight warm up. we have high pressure building into the bay area and that brought warmth yesterday and we will follow that plan for the weekend into monday and this morning, live doppler 7 shows the fog all of the way out into the east bay. so our friends in the valley, they're waking up to the gray die. this is san rafael where it is mostly cloudy and 55 in oakland and santa cruz and half moon bay and mountain view and half moon bay and milder there and looking at mount diablo and 54, santa rosa and 55 in napa and livermore and 57 in concord. it is mild from fairfield to vacaville in the upper 50s and if you're coming into san francisco, 3:00 in the afternoon, 66 degrees with our sunshine so we have a ways to peeling back, and sunny and mild

for this mother's day weekend and a cooler pattern develops as soon as wednesday and we could even see showers. wednesday into thursday, the debate is still out whether or not we will see any rain, but as for today, look at that. by 10:30 the clouds have cleared the coast and they'll stay away from the shoreline throughout the afternoon and if you want to lead to the beach and it will be sunny, but that push is making its way into sunday morning and the fog will be at the shoreline and very little change from today to tomorrow. 54 in ocean beach with low 70s in santa cruz and it will take a while, and san jose, 77. average high, 75 and very little change tomorrow and monday, cooler and high pressure begins to fade away. perhaps low pressure coming in

valley and low 60s downtown and we'll be looking at that fog surging back during the early evening hours. >> lisa, thank you. the search continues for a missing 4-year-old from houston. a spokesperson for the mother of maleah davis is now accusing the stepfather of abuse and this comes as we get a new look at surveillance photoes of him. >> reporter: a spokesperson for the mother of 4-year-old maleah davis making chilling allegations claiming her stepfather was physically abusive toward the child? we need the truth about what happened to young maleah to come out. >> sources say this image from a surveillance camera shows maleah's stepfather derrion vence leaving home with a basket carrying a plastic bag. the next night he's seen walking into a hospital after he claims he woke up on the side of the road and maleah was gone. vence told police he was driving maleah and her brother to pick up her mother at the airport.

we're talking about a very important topic -- vaping amongst teens. dr. ling, great to see you >> nice to see you. >> thank you so much for joining us. first of all, help us understand the dangers of vaping and how nicotine affects the developing brain. >> sure. so, nicotine is a neurotoxin. and teens' brains are particularly vulnerable to this toxin and addiction. in part that's because your brain is still developing up until you're 25 years old, and also teen brains are really designed for learning, right? so every time you learn a new skill or a new fact, your brain is forming connections between the cells, called synapses. so teen brains are really designed to learn. and that same capability also means they're more vulnerable to nicotine addiction. >> how can you tell if your kid is vaping, though? >> well, there are some signs of nicotine withdrawal, which can be, as you mentioned, irritability, learning

difficulties, mood swings. now, that may also sound like a regular teen. >> sounds like a regular teenager to me. >> exactly. you can talk to your teen, for one thing, and you can ask them. they may or may not tell you, so you may need to ask in more general terms -- what do they know about vaping, what have they heard about it, do they know other teens who are vaping to get a little bit of sense of that. in addition to talking to your teen, you can also take a look at what's happening at home. often if there's a funny, sweet smell when you enter your teen's room, that smell can actually be vape aerosol in the room. you can also take a look in your en in there. you have to look really carefully because a lot of the new vapes really look like usb port devic supplies, so you have to know what they look like. >> but it can be a minefield with teenagers. talking to kids is the best start. >> i think that talking to kids is always a great place to start. and it's really starting a

conversation that's gonna go on over time, so you want to avoid sort of single lecture from mom as your only way of finding out what's happening with your kids. but listening more than talking is a great idea, and especially if your kids are young, you may just want to ask them what their experience is and what they know. a lot of teens, you know, they start vaping because they think it's different from cigarettes. they also don't even realize that it may have a lot of nicotine or what nicotine does. four out of five kids actually start vaping because of the flavors and just curiosity about the flavors, and they don't po le this tiny va pod,h little contains the same amount of nicotine as a pack of cigarettes. i do think also parents can ask their school administrators what's being done about teen vaping. so middle schools and high schools across california are seeing this happening and are putting policies in place. and then parents can also think

about the kids in their communities and say what can be done to get rid of flavored tobacco products, including vapes, and getting them out of our convenience stores and other places that are so easy for teens to access. >> yeah. well, dr. pam ling, a lot of really important information for us to digest here. but is maybe one of the big takeaways here is that parents and teachers, health professionals, community leaders need to take more of an aggressive step to help protect children from these highly potent products, right? >> i agree. i think it's up to us to really take action in this, and one really great way to get started is to check out the website flavorshookkids.org. and that place has -- the website has information about the vapes, it has pictures so you can find out, really, what they look like and what they do, also ways to talk to your school administrators or even send a letter to the mayor. >> dr. ling, thank you so much. what's that website again? >> sure. it's flavorshookkids.org.
