concord, 56. happhe morning hours, we'll see plenty of sun as the fog burns back to the coast. it will stay cool there. mid-60s around the bay noontime. by the afternoon, 70 around the bay. fremont and feeling pretty good as well as hayward. head towards danville and pleasanton. upper 70s while staying near 60 in pacifica. chris? >> lisa, thank you. developing news. the 3-year-old girl that was at the center of an amber alert has been found safe. police say she was taken during a carjacking in the east bay. this is new video of the car police said the girl was in when it was stolen in oakland just after 8:00 last night. we've been told this is her father's car and that she was reportedly sitting in the back seat. this new video shows the car crashed into a bus stop in el cerrito. d safe.announced they recovereds

we still don't know what exactly led up to the crash or where the girl was found. stay with abc 7 news for the latest on this developing story. we sent out this push alert on our abc 7 news app just a few hours ago when the girl was found safe. the app is free to download. if you want push alerts, just enable notifications. the first of the barbecue becky will take place in oakland. last year, a woman called police to report two black men having a barbecue at lake merit. a video of the woman who made the call became viral and she became known as barbecue becky. when this happened, charcoal grills were not allowed at that part of lake merritt, but since the incident, the city has installed hot ash disposal units. one of the men involved in the initial barbecue now sits on the parks and recreation board. he is organizing the event which is a free community and family friendly celebration on its fund-raising page. an oakland city council woman is calling for justice for

her murdered son. councilwoman lynette gibson mcileany was in los angeles yesterday gathered to mourn victims of gun violence. her son victor was shot and killed during a robbery near ufc two months ago. the 21-year-old was a music student at the university. no one has been arrested for his murder. on the peninsula, homeland security agents say they discovered illegal assault rifles inside a man's home. dylan zugar now faces several charges including possession of illegal firearms and manufacture of illegal weapons. belmont police and federal officers raided his home on thursday and say they found these weapons. he was booked into san mateo county jail. the red cross is helping a dozen people find a new place to live after a fire in berkeley. residents had to evacuate while firefighters worked to get the flames under control. here's abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard.

a 24-year-olsa n cars and then drove away. this is the chevy camaro officials say smashed into two parked cars yesterday afternoon. fire crew members were conducting training when they happened to see it drive past them. there's significant damage to the front of the vehicle. police say the suspect got into a fight with someone he knew before all of this happened. 6:05. we'll know this afternoon who the warriors will face in the western conference finals. game one will be tuesday night at oracle arena. the warriors closed out the series against the rockets friday night winning, 118-113. it wasn't easy with kevin durant out with a leg injury. the warriors next opponent will be the one that wins the game between the denver nuggets and portland trail blazers. you can watch that at 12:30 only on abc 7. happy mother's day. it appears many kids are going all out to celebrate mom this year. americans are expected to spend

spending the day seeing the sites in san francisco. looks like the sea lions are already awake. we don't really see them all that often moving around this early in the morning. lisa returns with the fuelll accuweather forecast. actress and model peggy lipton has died. in a statement, her daughters say lipton passed away from cancer with family by her side. she rose to fame playing undercover cop julie barnes in "the mod squad" from 1968 to 1973. she also starred in the hit tv series "twin peaks" in the '90s. lipton was 72. nearly 18 years after the 9/11 terror attacks, a new book shares the experiences of many whose lives were forever changed that day. former "boston globe" reporter mitchell zuckoff recovered the tragedy and wanted to illuminate those stories in his new book "fall and rise -- the story of

9/11." he spoke with anchor bill ritter from our sister station in new york city. >> reporter: september 11th, 2001. four hijacked planes crashing into the world trade center towers, the pentagon and a field in pennsylvania after passengers fought back. nearly 3,000 people killed. and yet for so many americans, especially young people, the 9/11 attacks seem as distant as the japanese attack on pearl harbor in 1941, which is one reason former "boston globe" reporter mitchell zuckoff wrote this book "fall and rise -- the story of 9/11" to tell stories about the people who died. those who survived. those who were heroes. >> we have an entire generation with no memories and we have people in our generation whose memories are fading that there is this sort of sweet spot moment where we have to capture these stories, tell these stories, and make sure they're preserved or else it becomes a numbers game. it becomes 9 and 11 and four planes. >> reporter: zuckoff's book drenched in the spirit of

911 from 9/11 related diseases, police, firefighters, you name it. we owe them a debt that we still have to continue to pay. >> reporter: the ball for boosting funding is now in the hands of congress. bill ritter, abc 7 news. >> "fall and rise, the story of 9/11" is available now at bookstores and online. in the east bay, b.a.r.t. passengers will need to take a shuttle bus between the concord and pleasant hill stations today. crews are replacing that stretch of nearly 50-year-old track. b.a.r.t.'s maintenance team will be replacing rail, electrical and train control equipment and a drainage system. the trackway will also be closed memorial day weekend and the second weekend in june. demand for new houses is dropping in the bay area. anywhere else in the country, that might mean lower prices and a buyer's market. but here, prices are already so high, it's turning into a lose/lose proposition for everyone involved. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas has more.

>> reporter: the biggest change in the local real estate market is in the south bay. last year this time, houses were moving fast and getting multiple bids. now, not so much. >> it's not that people are trying to sell more homes. rather it's that people are having a harder time selling those homes and you're seeing more of last week's listings left over for next week. >> reporter: isse roman is a chief economist for trulia. they have a new report on home sale trends across the country and once again, the bay area leads the nation in the things that make purchases tough. >> there's a limited number of people who can afford housing at current prices and who have the need to move at a given point in time. >> reporter: the trulia report shows inventory up more than 55% over the year before. that means more houses on the market longer. it's even worse for so-called starter home inventory up more than 78% from 2018. the median price for a starter home in san jose is $759,000. gonzalez of the santa clara association of realtors says things may be slowing, but -- >> i guess that's all relative.

properties used to sell in a week and so maybe they're taking two to three weeks to sell now. >> reporter: mixed news in another new report from redfin which says that 22% of south bay listings got multiple bids last month. but that's down from 75% last year. and it my may indicate buyer fatigue. >> if what you mean is prices being high enough that most of them just can't do it right now and they're figuring out other solutions, then that's right. >> reporter: don't expect this respite to last very long. almost everyone predicts economic growth will heat the market up once again later this year. in san francisco, eric thomas, abc 7 news. in the east bay, 15 sets of twins are getting ready to graduate from pittsburg high school. as abc 7 reporter wayne freedman shows us, it's a phenomenon that was only recently discovered. pittsbur begun pondering a new set of challenges. that's especially true for

contestant trying to redefine traditional beauty standards. >> what do you think the girl in the photo wearing the sash would have said to you having finallye >> she was shy. maybe she'd be proud, shocked but they're celebrate with me. when i was 10, i was severely burned the water heater ignited the fumes and a huge ball of flames went through the house. i was completely on fire. i was 10. all of a sudden, i really thought i looked like a monster. i remember watching the miss america pageant for the first time and looked down at my scars and thought, well, that's never going to happen for me. we were looking through photo albums at my dad's house. my daughter comes in and grabs a random album. here, mommy, look at this one, and then jets out of the room. it was the one that had me dressed as miss america before the fire. i thought this is interesting because i hadn't seen that picture for a long time. and that dream was just starting to build back up in me. and it just validated the fact that, yeah, you know what? i am beautiful, and i'm proud of

our abc 7 news app just a few hours ago when the girl was found safe. the app is free to download. if you'd like push alerts, just enable notifications. the stepfather of a missing 4-year-old girl in houston is now charged in her disappearance. this is a new booking photo of darian vence. 4-year-old malia davis has not been seen in more than a week. while she officially remains missing, vance is now charged with tampering with evidence, specifically a corpse. vence appeared in court late last night and his bond was set at $1 million. however, investigators have not said whether malia is dead. he originally told police strangers beat him and abducted malia last week. the trade war with china is ramping up as president trump increased tariffs on goods from the country. it will push prices up for american shoppers and some local retailers tell us they have no choice. abc 7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian explains. >> some time next week, the week after, the price will go up.

american consumers. >> reporter: the administration added 25% tariffs on 6,000 goods from china. this is expected to push prices up on a wide variety of items. and store owners expect luxury electronics like expensive computer parts to be the first things consumers cut back on once the tariffs fully kick in. in the newsroom, lisa amin gulezian. coming up on "this week," house intelligence committee chairman adam schiff and foreign relations committee member rand paul will talk about the battle between the white house and congress over investigations. they'll also discuss the trump administration's latest foreign policy moves. you can watch the full interviews on "this week with george stephanopoulos" at 8:00 here on abc 7. state lawmakers just kicked off a campaign in san francisco to make elections more secure. abc 7 news was on 18th street at a rally to support measure ab-1784. it would bring open source voting in california. the bill is intended to help

counties update their voting systems and improve security. this follows claims of russian interference in state elections. >> we know what part of the problem has been. we have proprietary software that's owned by corporations that is vulnerable. that is susceptible to hacking. >> the bill would provide up to $16 million in matching funds to help counties install open-source paper ballot voting systems rather than privately held ones. a big boost for the bay area lyme foundation. the nonprofit held a fund-raiser at salesforce tower in san francisco last night. actor and musician jeff bridges performed at the event. people with lyme disease also shared their stories. abc 7 news reporter luz pena has more. >> reporter: this is not one of jeff bridges' usual performances. he's doing this for a friend. a friend diagnosed with lyme disease. >> a tough disease it's often misdiagnosed.

good morning. time now is 6:39. we're taking a live look outside from our santa cruz camera. you can see the lighthouse there in the middle of the screen. for those heading to the coast for mother's day, lisa argen returns with the coastal forecast as well as what to expect throughout the rest of northern california coming up in just a little bit. a big thrill for a man in chicago when he realized what his home security camera captured. his doorbell camera recorded a meteor streaking across the sky friday night. the homeowner says he looked outside just as it was happening after reading a tweet about the meteor. southwest will soon be flying to a fifth airport in hawaii.
