the door. a quick check of drive times. six minutes walnut creek to highway 13. we do have a crash at pleasant hill road. maybe a little slowing through the stretch but overall not terrible. nine minutes for you. and just start to go see things change from green to the yellow, westbound 580 tracy to dublin now coming in at 33 minutes. thanks, alexis. in the east bay the father of a 3-year-old who was at the center of an amber alert is at the center of trouble. >> a thief stole his car. police say he then lied and said his daughter was in the car so officers would find it faster. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard has a new surveillance video. >> reporter: check out this surveillance video from saturday night. a suspected car theme getting into a silver mercedes outside a liquor store on international boulevard while the owner was inside. seconds later the mercedes drives off, the owner seen running after the stolen car into traffic. the car's owner told police his 3-year-old daughter was in the back seat.

in the confusion the child was initially identified as a boy. >> the victim's 3-year-old son may possibly be inside the suspect vehicle, so maybe it's a known suspect. it's not clear at this point. >> reporter: the case prompted an amber alert. the car was recovered hours later after it crashed into a bus stop on san pablo avenue in elusct taken chil w inar to theause t begin with. she was at home safe with her mom. the father arrested for making a false police report in hopes police would recover the stolen mercedes quicker. >> i don't think that's right. there are other ways to find your car. >> reporter: she can't believe the story. >> i'm glad the baby is safe. that's the most important thing, the baby was not in the car. it's sad that he lied about it just to get his car back, but i'm glad the baby is safe. >> reporter: everyone is happy the child is okay. still, a lot of questions here. it is unclear if police contacted the child's mother on

saturday before issuing that amber alert. in oakland, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. the jury was told on thursday what it was like to live inside an rv at the ghost ship warehouse in oakland. he says he stored flammable art supplies there but card the warehouse a safe place. avalos escaped the night of the fire. defendants max harris and derick almena are on trial. 4:33 now. 13 people are in need of a place to stay after a fire burned through an apartment building. a witness posted this video on the citizen app. the fire broke out near mission street and templeton avenue. smoke damaged several apartments on the second floor. the redorking to shelter. the fire was completely out about four hours after it was

reported. in a series of tweets this morning, president trump is defending his new chinese tariffs. i am watching this morning how it could affect the stock market which opens in just about two hours. the u.s. raised tariffs on $200 billion worth of goods on friday. the president's chief economic adviser told fox news yesterday a trade war will affect both american and chinese businesses. some republicans including senator rand paul say that they are concerned. >> the longer we're involved in a tariff battle or a trade war, the better chance there is that we could actually enter into a recession because of it. >> president trump isn't backing down. in a tweet he said, quote, we are right where we want to be with china and says the u.s. will bring in billions of dollars in tariffs. again, he is continuing to tweet this morning, and i'm watching that for you. so far china has not said what counter measures it will be going to take. back to you. jessica, the white house has

not complied with at least 79 congressional requests following the release of special counsel robert mueller's redacted report. democrats are negotiating for mueller to testify before congress. they say attorney general bill barr misrepresented mueller's conclusions. house democrats are considering imposing fines on trump officials who refused to comply with congressional formercgann. >> i think if you fine someone $25,000 a day to their person, it gets their attention. president trump went on the attack on twitter calling the investigation a total scam, a witch-hunt that yielded no collusion, no obstruction. the report outlined 11 instances of possible obstruction. caltrain wants millions of dollars to upgrade and expand. the pitch it's making to taxpayers. he was a big supporter of sfo. now the airport wants to honor san francisco's late mayor, ed lee. one lucky rabbit may help

we're going to get our entire monthly may rainfall. looks like it could be in one day by thursday night into friday. we're talking half an inch of rain in san franciso, maybe an inch in the north bay. i know, i'm sorry about this. 65 in oakland. 70 in palo alto today so enjoy the sunshine. we'll look for slightly cooler day today, anywhere from two to five degrees cooler, mainly away from the bay. and then with the cloud cover tonight, shouldn't be bad. some mist and drizzle out there. alexis, turn off the sprinklers if you have them on already outside because mother nature will take care of that the end of the week. >> yeah, that sounds pretty good. i'm okay with that. >> that's looking on the bright side. it could be tough on the roads. it's been a while since we've dealt with wet pavement. nothing like that now if you're about to grab the keys and head out the door. in fact, you're not going to have a lot of company. one vehicle on northbound 28 just past highway 17. san jose really quiet this morning. and taking you into our only problem on the board so far

documents happened nearly a decade ago. and right now assange is facing 50 weeks in a british jail for skipping bail in the year 2012. back to you, reggie. in the south bay a woman from san jose faces felony dui charges in connection with a crash that killed a 17-year-old high school student am investigators say ashley marie oliver was driving a chrysler minivan in the wrong direction on southbound highway 17 when she crashed into a car with five people inside. this happened just south of redwood estates around 2:00 a.m. saturday morning. the five victims are from fremont. again, one of the victims was killed. our media partner "the mercury news" reports that person was a 17-year-old student from washington high school. 4:42 now. abc 7 is committed to building a better bay area isese focn ispublictransportati. as we look for solutions to the increasing congestion on our roads. well, the issue could be on the

and santa clara counties to raise up to $200 million. the agency has been doing some polling and approval is close to the two-thirds majority it would need to pass. voters could decide in the 2020 march primary or the general election in november of 2020. another step forward in the plan to rename sfo's international terminal in honor of mayor ed lee. the airport commission will discuss and possibly take action on a resolution that would rename it mayor edwin m. lee international terminal. along with new signs, the resolution will recommend a statue, plaque, and video honoring lee. the former mayor died unexpectedly from cardiac arrest in december of 2017. today the cdc is expected to give an update on the measles outbreak. as of last week there have been 764 cases of measles reported this year in 23 states. seven cases in the bay area. three in san mateo county and three in santa clara county.

and lesser amounts in the inland valleys. may rain by the end of the week. all right. taking a look at the roads this morning i think anyway. there we go. we are looking at mostly green. however, i have a couple problems to talk about in the east bay. westbound 24 at pleasant hill road. still have a crash blocking the two left lanes. two right lanes are open and then not too far from there 680 just past olympic boulevard we have a roll over crash just reported. that is scattered across the roadway. i believe we have the two outside lanes blocked but sounds like all traffic is stopped. walnut creek southbound 680 on the right. so north of the 24 split and tacked up here yet. if either of those are blocking for much longer it will be. we'll check some drive times coming up at 5:00. thanks, alexis. a sweet and soothing serenade for moms and their newborn babies on mother's day.
