the san francisco board of supervisors banned the use of facial recognition technology by police and by all other municipal agencies. >> luis pena was inside the meeting and is live to explain why this decision. >> reporter: that's right. san francisco is known as the city of technology but also as a sampg twaer city. today they played an important role in the decision after the vote to ban this. >> when it shared with third parties in ways that would make anyone uncomfortable, when imagine naturalized groups, because of the color of their skin, origin, sexual doin, are trapped. >> by a major city, frcino. to facial recognition by police but not to personal business or federal use.

>> keep in mind that right now san francisco police are using this technology. in the future, they are not going to be allowed to use it any longer. and next week the board of supervisors will vote again. two of the board members were not here today. also, in the future, if any surveillance technology is to be used in san francisco, they would have to explain to the board of supervisors why they want to use this technology. where it will b used. the specific locations of where it will be implemented and who will have access to this technology. abc 7 news. on the peninsula in what is becoming a common occurrence, another dead whale has turned up off the coast. this one washed up near shelter cove just south of pacifica state beach. the whale is resting on a rocky area which makes it hard for scientists to inspect and it determine the cause ofdeath. this is the tenth whale that has

turned up dead. most have been gray whales that have likely died of starvation. last week a gray whale washed up in ocean beach in san francisco. this one died from a ship strike. the spike in deaths is being attributed to a combination of factors. they are hungry which means they are lingering longer and cnvenient, you into dangerous areas for food. >> it is looking like a rainy rest of the week. >> we are seeing some light showers ahead. take a look at live doppler 7. all the green is moisture in the clouds. some of it is hitting the ground. and that is around the ukia area. it is a level two coming in tomorrow. and it has basically a week to moderate strength atmosphere linked in with it.
