i'm meteorologist sandhya patel. a winter-like storm with an atmospheric river connection likely to set record rainfall here in the bay area. i'm kate larsen in sausalito. how the upcoming rain is costing a local kayak business tens of thousands of dollars. i'm amanda del castillo in the south bay. officers came to his rescue in more ways than one. and the warriors without kevin durant, but the splash brothers doused the blazers. abc7 news starts right now. >> now news to build a better bay area from abc7 news. >> good evening, everyone. let's get ready to go back to winter. live doppler 7 is starting to show you some moisture up in the upper layers of the atmosphere. it's not actually hitting the ground. we're seeing a lot of green up in the clouds, that moisture there. but there is a storm that is brewing off the coast here, and it is strong by spring

standards. it has an atmospheric river connection that's weak to moderate for tomorrow, and it is moving in tomorrow. it is going to drench the bay area. it's a level 2 on the storm impact scale. rain will be moderate at times. about a half an inch to an inch. winds will be gusting 30 to 40 miles per hour. here is a quick preview of your morning commute there will be some pockets of moderate rain as that storm system comes through. the rain will only intensify, and there is more storms that will follow. i'll be back with a closer look in the fuel forecast, coming up. i'm kate larsen live in novato. novato could see an inch of rain by the time all of these storms are over. and even though it's not raining here yet, there are plenty of businesses in marin county that are already dealing with the impact of this unseasonal storm. may is meant to beusy sfor kan the bay. but the rainy forecast is

measure in the united states, pitting it against roe v. wade. the bill would make it a felony to undergo the procedure. it would also make it a crime for a doctor to perform it. punishment could be as much as 99 years in prison. a spokesperson says the governor is reviewing the final version passed before deciding whether to sign it. along the peninsula, rv dwellers kicked off city streets now have a safe place to park overnight. east palo alto's mayor was on hand to mark the start of the rv safe lot parking program. the parking lot also has portable showers, rest rooms, and laundry facilities. the lot son bay road in east palo alto. one family we spoke with says they haven't been able to afford rent for two years, but they aren't bad people. >> we're good people, bills, so people living in peace. i have two jobs and shetoo. the rent iexnse.

the tcindy a nonprofit. in the south bay, the sunnyvale department of public safety is quite literally building a better bay area during a call for a person who fell on monday, officers noticed the man's wheelchair ramp was weathered and in need of major repairs. amanda del castillo shows what dps officers did next. >> thank you. >> kenneth peterson was working in his backyard monday when he took a tumbled. >> suffered head injuries and a hand injury. >> sunnyvale responded and realized their duties didn't stop after getting peterson back on his feet. >> one of the deputies stepped through the existing wheelchair ramp so we deemed it not very safe. >> peterson suffered a stroke about ten years ago which limited his mobility. he is a retired carpenter. on monday, dps knew the ramp needed to be replaced, or at the very least repaired. >> hole. you going to patch the hole? sure, as soon as my limbs get

better i can patch the hole. >> to peterson's surprise, he didn't need to reach for his old tool belt. a crew of eight with sunnyvale dps returned with plywood and power tools. >> ken's wife kept saying i didn't know you guys did this. and, you know, it might not be in the job description, but however we can help, that's what we're here for. >> officers going beyond the badge to build a better bay area. sunnyvale dps used its own material and spent about 45 minutes securing a new ramp, all under peterson's supervision, of course. >> because he's got some carpetty history and he pointed to the right nails and right screws and made sure we did it right. >> limited mobility hasn't stopped peterson from working on projects in his backyard. he said now thanks to sunnyvale dps, now will a ramp. >> i'm very, very grateful. >> amanda del castillo, abc7 news. let's move on. it was a blowout at oracle arena tonight. the warriors took game one of the western conference finals with a 116-94 win over the trail

let's turn to some information about the weather, and a lot of rain coming our way. >> yes. sandhya has the typing of it all. sandhya? >> we may be seeing a month's worth of rain for the entire month of may in just one day. that's how much rain for some parts of the bay area. dan and ama, i want to show you live doppler 7, we are seeing the green on the screen. that's moisture up in the clouds. it's known as virga. it's too dry so it evaporates before it hits the ground. temperatures tomorrow 50s, 60s. as you head out the door tomorrow morning, be prepared for wet roadways. use caution. allow yourself extra time. choppy waters if your taking the ferry across the bay. and don't forget the umbrellas if you are walking to work. definitely watch out for re.a l loour emil camer a is just a stunning ve look towards salesforce tower. emeryville, it's a little breezy right now. winter-like storm arrives in the morning. rainfall records are likely, especially daily rainfall records.

and two more storms are expected to follow over the next seven days. this is a level 2 on our exclusive abc7 news storm impact scale. tomorrow rain will be moderate at times. half an inch to an inch. thunder chance by nightfall, and gusts will be 30 to 40 miles per hour or higher. so take a look at the hour-by-hour forecast. 2:00 tomorrow afternoon, winds will be approaching 40 miles an hour. topping 40 miles an hour at 5:00 p.m., so is g to be a rough evening commute. still gusty at 6:30 tomorrow night. here is a look at the hour-by-hour timeline for the rain. so tomorrow morning at 5:00 a.m., just a spotty shower or light to moderate rain across the bay area. 8:00 a.m., it's pretty widespread. at 11:00 a.m., you see the scattered nature of this system, and then the rainfall intensity picks up, just in time for the evening commute. this is going to be part of the worst part of the storm. so 5:30 tomorrow night, the yellows indicating moderate to briefly heavy rain. 7:00 p.m. it's still going, and then as we head towards the latter part of the night, the

rainfall will taper with the second wave of the same storm coming through on thursday. now look at these rainfall totals. some parts of the bay area for the entire month of may receive from a third of an inch to just over an inch. we're expecting that and then some. santa rosa about an inch and a half of rain. 3/4,an .6 in concord. half an inch in livermore. definitely stotals. midnight thursday until 6:00 a.m. friday, up to 2 feet for the highest peaks. so definitely carry those chains. first thing tomorrow morning temperatures in the 50s. make sure you drive safely. tomorrow afternoon is going to be a windy one. level 2 tomorrow. level 1 thursday. chance of thunder. early morning showers friday, and then our next storm is saturday into sunday. one more storm monday night into tuesday. mike nicco is here 4:30 to 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, tracking this storm. dan and ama?
