an eruption of opinions and statements including this from "glamour" magazine showing the senators who approved the ban, >> repte janaine, ngmong them. really a nationwide outcry on both sides of this issue in response to this law and there's many promises of legal challenges. it seems that this bill is destined and intended for the supreme court. supporters setting their sights on overturning roe v. wade. >> actually for the future of our country, roe is destined to become a historical footnote. >> reporter: the reaction from the pro-choice community immediate. prominent women sharing stories of their abortions on social media using the #youknowme. >> who are you to tell me what to do with my body? it's my decision. it's not yours. >> reporter: the guttmacher institute reports one in four american women has an abortion before they're 45 and polls show about 70% of americans don't want roe v. wade overturned. "glamour" changing its home page to highlight the alabama state senate where all 25 lawmakers who voted in favor of this law are white men. in alabama some of the few doctors who provide abortions say they're scared and their patients are too. >> our phones have been ringing off the hook with women calling just wanting to know if we are still open. >> reporter: conservative televangelist pat robertson also speaking out surprising many by opposing the ban.

>> it's an extreme law, and they want to challenge roe versus wade, but my humble view is that this is not the case we want to bring to the supreme court because i think this one will lose. >> reporter: well, so far this year more than a dozen states have restricted or attempted to restrict access to abortion, and there could be more states on the way. right now legislators in missouri are considering a bill that would ban abortion at eight weeks. janai and kenneth, back to you. >> supporters and opponents focused on that conservative leaning majority on the supreme court. trevor ault, thank you. >> thank you. well, next to the white house where president trump is announcing a new immigration plan today. he's calling for sweeping changes, but democrats say he's ignoring the most critical issue. president trump insists it would be easy to overhaul the nation's immigration system. >> tremendous problems, of course, at the southern border from drugs to the wrong people being allowed to come in because of a corrupt and broken system that can be changed in 20 minutes.

>> reporter: in a speech in the rose garden today, he's expected to outline a new immigration plan focusing on two key issues, border security and legal citizenship. not changing, the number of green cards given out each year which will stay at 1.1 million despite a push from some republicans for a dramatic reduction. under this new proposal priority for visas would be given to highly skilled workers, applicants with higher education and those with english proficiency. >> i don't think most countries are giving us their finest. do you agree? and that's what's happening and it's causing tremendous problems with crime. >> reporter: the white house says this will increase diversity among immigrants in the u.s. but did not provide evidence to back up that claim. critics say there's one big glaring omission from the plan, how to address the 11 million undocumented immigrants already here in the u.s. in the meantime, republican senator lindsey graham is rolling out his own immigration bill. graham's proposal would require

asylum applicants from central america to apply for asylum in their respective countries. the bill would also allow for unaccompanied children from those countries to be deported from the u.s. >> no matter how high the wall will be built, no matter how many drones you have, no matter how many agents you put at the border, they'll keep coming because they want to get caught. >> reporter: as for president trump's plan, one administration official said, quote, we want to show the country that republicans are not against immigrants, but the plan faces an uphill battle with approval in congress unlikely. the state department is defending its decision to evacuate all non-essential embassy employees from iraq in response to a threat that's been linked to neighboring iran. u.s. officials say they are not rushing into a conflict insisting it would be an act of negligence if they failed to take precautions. congressional leaders will be briefed about the iranian threat today after lawmakers in both parties demanded more information.

>> reporter: this ordered departure from the u.s. embassy in iraq really is unusual. i have spent time in that baghdad embassy during a very violent period when isis was launching rockets at the facility, but this is the first time i remember the state department ever ordering a departure of personnel from that embassy so a lot of questions about what led them to do that. >> a british commander said he sees nothing unusual pertaining to threats. overnight iran's foreign minister said his country is committed to an international nuclear deal, but he called escalating u.s. sanctions unacceptable. president trump has granted a full pardon to one of his outspoken supporters. conrad black is a former media live mogul who was convicted of fraud and obstruction of justice. he spent more than three years in prison after being accused of cheating his company out of $60 million. but a white house statement points out the supreme court has overturned nearly all charges against him. yet another democrat is running for president. this time it's new york city

mayor bill de blasio.join race. he plans to kick off his campaign with an appearance on "good morning america." thousands of people showed up to honor kendrick castillo, the colorado teen who sacrificed his life trying to protect classmates from two gunmen. hundreds of jeeps lined the streets across -- around the church as a tribute to castillo's love for jeeps. inside the people who knew him best praised castillo's character including one friend who said, he died for us, now it's time for us to live for him. prosecutors say both shooting suspects will be tried as adults. time now for a look at your weather for this thursday morning. looking at the radar, more showers today for most of california, oregon and washington state. strong storms are also possible today from the dakotas to the great lakes and chicago. in central texas new video shows a partial dam collapse at lake dunlap this week sending water rushing downstream where people were told to take emergency precautions. looking at today's high

suspended from a crane somehow malfunctioned. it broke the windows on several floors and forced police to close the surrou firefighters finally stabilized the lift and rescued those window washers. shaken up but they're okay. >> lucky men. now to that horrifying helicopter crash in new york city. the pilot was the only one aboard the sightseeing chopper when it crashed spinning out of control into the hudson river. the chopper was on its way to pick up passengers after refueling. the pilot survived and was soon standing on the chopper's flotation device. he was pulled by the water by a nearby ferry crew. >> we just slowly eased our way up there. i could actually stand in position if i had to with the boat so -- >> and he climbed aboard, no problem? >> well, i called out to him. you know, said, okay. >> we pulled him up on the ladder. i help him to bring him out to the deck. i asked him questions if he was okay or if he was injured or was anybody else in the helicopter. he seems to be pretty good condition.

>> iesgars are trying determine what caused the crash. the pilot says he felt something was wrong as he was trying to land. houston police have arrested a woman they say owned a tiger and left it inside a garage in a residential neighborhood. she said she raised it as a pet but when it got too big, she temporarily dropped it off at a friend's house where somebody else found it and called authorities. she denies animal cruelty charges. the tiger was taken to an animal sanctuary. a new federal effort blamed the blocking robocalls is getting under way. an fcc plan would allow phone companies to block the annoying calls by default. that would allow many customers to avoid having to request tools from their carriers or download apps to weed out the calls. a vote on that plan is expected next month. hershey is making a historic change to its chocolate bars by adding emojis. it's the first redesign of the hershey bar in 125 years. only about 25 million of the emoji bars will be made.

alone for almost four days. >> he's in remarkably good condition. one of the men searching for him said, quote, he is a true kentucky mountain boy. this morning, a miracle rescue in kentucky. >> yes, we have a successful finding of the child. >> reporter: 22-month-old kenneth howard found alive. >> thank you. >> to everybody that did help us, thank you so much. >> reporter: kenneth was in the front yard of his home on mother's day sunday when his father says he turned around and the boy was gone. search teams with drones, dogs and choppers searched the terrain near his family's home then after three long nights, one of the teams finally heard the boy calling for help. >> fortunately one of the teams who has an expert tracker with him was in the area, heard a cry and with further investigation, they found the 22-month-old child. >> reporter: kenneth was wearing only sweat pants, a t-shirt and one sandal.

he survived overnight temperatures in the 40s. the sheriff says the boy was cold, wet and dehydrated but in remarkably good condition. doctors say his age may have actually helped him survive. unlike most adults who can go without water for only about three days, young children typically have more water reserves in their bodies allowing them to survive longer in this kind of situation. it's got to be the name, right? little kenneth had wandered to a 50-foot-high cliff about a quarter mile from his home. police are still investigating exactly how he got separated from his family. police in maui say they're stepping up efforts to find a yoga instructor who vanished one week ago. amanda eller was seen on surveillance video at a local market before she drove off and disappeared. police found her car and belongings including her cell phone in the parking lot of a forest reserve. police say her boyfriend passed a polygraph test. he tells abc news he spent every moment that he's been awake looking for her. >> and so i just want to encourage everyone to not give

showers out there will keep things wet for the morning commute. more coming in the forecast. so as we wake up, we're definitely cooler this morning. low to mid-50s everywhere except look at clear lake, 46. highs today, even 50s at the coast, san francisco, observing, richmond, santa rosa, ukiah. everyone else in the low to mid-60s. a good 10-15 degrees below average. we'll take a look at your 12-hour planner next. i found a few dry streets. my commute was dry. you could have wet pavement where you are. we have a couple crashes including a solo vehicle roll over crash right at the cordelia junction. not sure how many lanes are blocked but you can see the red. emergency crews are there. sounds like a lot of damage. those take longer to clean up.
