going out about possible power outages this summer. san francisco could go dark even if there's no actual fire danger in the city. first, a live look outside. we had a rainy weekend. that's a beautiful picture this morning, mike nicco. so we understand some big changes are coming at the end of the week. it's beautiful. just tweeted it out saying i see sunshine. no rain this morning. there's fog out there. our rain has turned into fog and look at the dangerously low visibility in napa at the airport, petaluma at your airport, less than an eighth of a mild. so bus stops this morning going to be hard to see those kids. please slow down. it hasn't bled that far south on 101, but it could with light and variable winds. so keep that in mind. it will be around the entire morning commute. look at these temperatures right around the upper 40s to near 50. it's definitely cool they are morning. 56 to 62, brighter and drier.

brought a gun to school and the suspect is angel granados dias. he is due in court in portland today currently being held on half a million dollars bail. this morning we are hearing from that high school football coach who tackled the student. he used to work for the 49ers. anser hassan live at levi stadium for us. anser? >> reporter: good morning. that coach is keanon lowe who used to be with the 49ers in 2016. he's getting a lot of praise from around the country this morning. students told police that last friday dias walked into the classroom wearing a trench coat and pulled out a long gun. the coach said when he saw the gun he immediately lunged towards dias trying to get the gun from him but dias wouldn't let go. the coach said he tried to keep the gun pointed away from students trying to run. coach lowe spoke exclusively with "good morning america" telling them he doesn't think he was in the classroom by coincidence. he believes he was there for a

reason. >> to be there for the kids and the community. in that moment i was called upon, and i just reacted. like i said, instincts kicked in and i was able to, make something good out of something that could have been very, very tragic. >> reporter: no one was injured. dias now faces several charges including possession of a loaded firearm in a public space. coach lowe says going forward he would like to do more to end gun violence on campus. reporting live anser hassan, abc 7 news. it's 6:03 now. san mateo police expected to release more information today after an arrest at a shopping center. it started with reports of a man carrying a gun at hillsdale mall. several people posted saying they were locked inside. the mall was searched and cleared. the suspect was later arrested about two miles away at laurel wood shopping center. pg&e's power shutoffs could affect san francisco even

for wildfires. the utility company says it will temporarily cut power to areas with high wildfire risk. that includes the east bay which is prone to windy and dry conditions in the summer. "the chronicle" reports some transmission lines in the east bay are connected to power lines in san francisco which means a shutoff there could impact the city. earlier this month cal fire determined pg&e equipment started the campfire, the deadliest wildfire in state history. today the city of piedmont is expected to move forward with a plan to stop under aged vaping and tobacco use, approving $400,000 state grant to hire a school resource officer. the officers will visit schools to cut down on use as well as drug and alcohol use. the officer will also create a diversion program for teens caught using tobacco products. according to a new report from "the new york times," bank staff noticed suspicious activity in accounts tied to president trump and jared

kushner back in 2016 and 2017. anti-money laundering specialists recommended they look into several transactions. employees prepared reports at the time but bank executives never filed them. "the times" said deutsche bank lent several millions of dollars. a grandmother and her grandchildren are safe after rescue crews pulled them from their submerged suv. the woman drove into the pond at a mobile home park in rohnert park. this was saturday night. the woman said she mistook the opening to the pond for the next street. witnesses say it was raining hard at the time. >> i heard this -- and then the dog started to bark and then i realized there's a car in the pond. i mean, i've never seen that before. >> the driver and her 3 and 7-year-old granddaughters were not hurt. police say the 59-year-old

a huge fire in florida. this was a memorial for parkland shooting victims and it this is all on purpose. dozens gathered to honor the 17 people who died in the shooting. david best, the san francisco artist who built the memorial says he hopes the burning is therapeutic for survivors. it's what he has done to s temp around the world. volunteers worked around the clock for two weeks to have this completed in time. it is 6:15. you have to listen to the next story. close to 400 college graduates in atlanta will not be having to worry about student debt.

>> my family is making a grant to eliminate their student loans. >> what? that is robert smith at morehouse college yesterday and, yes, he indeed promised to pay off the loans for the entire senior class. the billionaire investor is the ceo of vista equity partners headquartered here in san francisco. abc 7 news spoke with a morehouse alum who graduated in 2013 and is about to start repaying his student loans. he says the 2019 graduating class should not take the gift for granted. >> one of the things beautiful about this act of giving, we're able to start a generation of wealth. that gives them the opportunity to actually give back to their college. to give back to morehouse and not be tied solely to their debt. >> he had already pledged a pay.

cupertino still in the green at 17 minutes. alexis, thank you. school will be in session today for one east bay district even though it looks like their teachers won't be there. >> teachers plan to strike this morning. they're demanding a 10% raise. the district is first year and salary increase the following year. amy hollyfield is live for us. >> reporter: good morning. schools will be open in union city and in hayward despite a teacher strike, so the teachers will not be inside the classrooms. they're going to be on the picket line, about 600. both sides failed to reach a deal over the weekend. talks fell apart so they're going on strike. the district says with schools open students will be expected to be in class.

>> we understand that crossing the picket line can be a personal choice of the students who are absent due to the strike. those will be unexcused but no penalty for those students not coming to school. >> and the main sticking point in the contract talks the teachers union wanted to let people know school instruction will not be done by regular teachers and that instruction will not be equivalent to the current school year. the strike is set to start this morning. it's a personal decision. so we'll see what students decide to do today. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news.

the ghost ship trial will resume and jurors will hear some of the final words of the people who perished. it's going to be a tough day. prosecutors will read text messages sent while the inferno was closing in on the victims. 36 people died. firefighters said many had no chance to get out. derick almena and max harris both face involuntary manslaughter charges in the case. 6:34. protests over abortion rights are not slowing down. demonstrators marched in protest of recent anti-abortion measures passed in both states. the laws criminalize for doctors and make no exceptions for rape or incest. they are distancing themselves from the new state laws. >> you're seeing laws on both sides of the argument in the extreme. i don't support the alabama law.

sunny but maybe an hour late this afternoon. you can see by 7:00 the showers and potential thunderstorms lining up in the north bay because you're further west and then them just spread overnight. they're waiting for us at 4:00 tomorrow morning through 9:00 for the commute and there's more waves of showers during the afternoon, early evening hours but then things start to change. here comes the cold front sweeping down and overnight will be drier and quieter air. my storm concerns a little bit of flooding for the downpours and thunderstorms especially tomorrow. my accuweather forecast, there's no storm impact scale on wednesday and thursday. some random showers are possible. even when we get into the 60s and 70s this weekend, slightly cooler than we should be. at least it will be dry. a lighter than average commute. one of our busier spots. we have about a 15-minute buildup now on westbound 580.
