know it has come to this morning. >> the district has offered a 3% bonus for the first year, and a 1% raise for the second. last night, the district felt moved slightly. >> we added contingency language that said that if the revenue comes in higher that we will give the additional half a percent or the 1% ongoing raise. >> any revenue is unlikely, because the district has said it will experience declining enrollment, and the funding is based on the enrolled students. >> not too many kids showed up here, and what are they doing inside? >> they are watching movies. crowd control, and there is not a lot of learning going on. >> and this parent kept her kids home to show support for teachers. >> we are catching up on a lot of work at home, and today, we decided to take a bike ride to come down here to support the teachers. >> valerie says that she wants to get feedback from her daughter before sending her back to school. >> i want to see how they play

it out and get my daughter's ct her all of the time of what they are going to do. >> reporter: back here live at union city, we have new numbers from the district, and they told us that 20%, only 20% of the students attended classes today, and now, what can we expect tomorrow? more of the same. and the teachers are going to be back on the picket line and i spoke to one of the negotiators from the teachers side and they have no plans to meet with district. again live in union city, leann melendez for abc 7 news. the last strike in the bay area happened in oakland and they walked out february 21st, and the strike lasted seven days and the teachers returned to the classrooms march 4th after agreeing to a proposl including 11% salary increase over four years and plus a one-time 3% bonus. the district also agreed to hire more staff including counselors, psychologists and special

education teachers. >> new at 5:00, the witness in the ghost ship warship trial tested about visits to the warehouse from city crews. witnesses cried as they described the final texts of the loved ones who died in fire. laura anthony has the story. >> reporter: they were the last words of the partner and recalling them brought alexis abrams to tears as she testified in the ghostship trial. she attended a music event at the fruit veil warehouse, and at 11:04 he said he would head home soon, and then two more texts. i love you. fire. he was among the 36 people who died that night. alexa burrell also testified about a text she received from her friend nicole seacrest, and it said simply on the texts, fire here.

40 cities are in town today to learn how san jose could build the bike lanes so quickly and reduce the accidents in the process. a group of u.s. students thinks they have come up with a way to solve ride hailing companies. a group of students found that expanding muni and making it free would help to make it more competitive with the ride share companies like uber or lyft. right now muni is free for senior citizens and along with some young people, and the fares will increase in july. and now, the federal government is trying to protect your right to write a critical review. >> and relief for those facing a mountain of student debt to pay off. >> michael finney has those stories. >> let's start with the first one. hopeful news for those saddled with huge student loan. there is a senate plan for those to build a retirement fund while paying off the loans.

currently the employees can match the employee's 401 contribution, but not to those who don't contribute, and many of them paying off student debt can't afford the contribute, and the retirement parody for student loans act will allow companies to match the student loan payment, and more than 40 million americans are carrying student loan debt. amazon is building a new type of warehouse, but it is not what you think. the online retail giant is building warehouses around the country to store hazardous materials. this is coming after an incident that we reported on last year where a can of bear repellent exploded hospitalizing 24 workers. the federal trade commission has proved that it is serious about your right to post reviews of the products and the services. the ftc has announced three separate enforcements of the consumer review fairness acts and it prohibits the business from having contracts that bar

a tornado touched down south of fresno as storms came through the area this weekend. an ef tornado was near huron yesterday, and the surveyors found no damage and nobody was injured, but the tornado touched down with 70-mile-an-hour winds and it is the first tornado after several funnel clouds were spotted. the clouds brought wind and hail, and two more cells are to move through the central valley, but they predict not to be as intense. and rain and hail flooded part of stockton as some residents had to get in kayaks to leave their homes. they were forced to close multiple roads for hours, and stockton on average gets 1.5 inches of rain for entire month of may, but some parts of the city saw 2 inches of rainfall yesterday alone. a new hampshire school lunch lady lost her job over the act
