when their car got swept away on a flooded road. >> if you're seeing this, don't do this. just go around. turn around. down drown. >> reporter: throughout the day tuesday rescuers in the state worked tirelessly to help trapped residents. firefighters pulling people out submerged vehicles and swamped homes. the devastation from the flash floods obvious from above as the governor toured the hardest hit areas. on the ground roads mangled. neighborhoods inundated and homes destroyed. to the north at least seven reported tornadoes touched down in kansas including this twister and to the east, the governor declared an emergency as a severe storm did major damage. police say one teen is lucky to be alive after spending eight hours surrounded by rushing floodwaters. >> to have dealt with what she dealt with and god bless her. seriously. it's pretty impressive. >> reporter: while the grandstands at the lucas oil

speedway were completely mangled by a possible tornado -- >> we are still shaking and shocked. >> reporter: -- people camping out ahead of this weekend's race say they never had a chance to escape. >> we were inside when it blew over. it was scary. we got our wits enough to call 911 and they came and broke out the emergency exit window and got us out. >> two storm-related deaths have been reported in missouri. as for what's ahead today we'll have your forecast in less that five minutes. to washington and the growing split among democrats over impeachment as they issue a new round of subpoenas to former members of the trump administration. house speaker nancy pelosi is holding a meeting today aimed at tamping down calls for impeachment. but some members of her party are running out of patience with president trump stonewalling their efforts to get to the bottom of the mueller report. this comes as we learn about a new poll that reportedly shows the president falling behind in some key battleground states. abc's mona kosar abdi has more from washington. good morning, mona. >> reporter: good morning,

now saying that's not enough and are urging party leaders to begin an impeachment inquiry against the president. house speaker nancy pelosi caught in the middle will meet with members today to push for investigations over impeachment. >> madam speaker, are you under increased pres >> reporter: today pelosi and senate minority leader chuck schumer are set to meet with the president to discuss a pending bipartisan infrastructure deal. but overnight president trump shifted gears demanding his new trade pact with mexico and canada come first. and president trump is also looking ahead to 2020. the trump team is dismissing reports that an internal poll showed the president losing in key battleground states. sources tell abc news, the result surprised some members of team trump, particularly in states like wisconsin and pennsylvania. janai, kenneth. >> mona, thank you. breaking overnight yet another plane crash in alaska. the single engine cessna like this one crashed in the prince william sound. the three people aboard were rescued by the coast guard and were flown for medical treatment and this follows two deadly

float plane crashes in recent days. the carrier involved in both of those crashes has now suspended operations. dallas police are developing whether attacks on three transgender women are related and if they're hate crimes. one victim was found dead just weeks after video posted online showed her being beaten in a parking lot. a second victim was also murdered while a third was stabbed. all of the attacks have happened since october. >> awful. one of the wealthy parts parents charged in the college admissions bribery scandal has gone in front of the cameras for the first time and he's saying he's sorry. high-powered new york attorney gordon caplan now admits he spent $75,000 to improve his daughter's test scores. he was one of two parents pleading guilty yesterday. he said he wants to apologize to his daughter and to other students as well. >> i'm also sorry to all the other kids out there in the college admissions process and to all the parents helping them and supporting them. truly sorry. >> as for his punishment prosecutors are asking for eight

we're back with an unusual high speed chase in southern california. police trying to pull over this stolen rv for a traffic offense when the driver took off speeding down local streets. during the chase the rv smashed into a tree and several cars. the driver kept going despite the damage until one final crash. she then ran off on foot with one of her two dogs following her. police finally took her into custody. she, two other drivers and both dogs were all injured but none seriously. mcdonald's says it's taking steps to protect employees as it

faces new sexual harassment claims. more than two dozen women have filed complaints against the company claiming they were assaulted, harassed or suffered from discrimination. one woman claims she wasked at e same mcdonald's. >> big companies want to put a silence on us, tell us you against me. my career path where i was becoming manager came to a halt up to the point where i was demoted. i had to quit due to the embarrassment. >> mcdonald's says it will begin new harassment training for workers and will offer a hotline to report abuse. ride share lyft is making another move to improve safety. it's adding a panic alarm app allow passengers to call 911. it comes weeks after a university of south carolina student was killed allegedly by a man posing as an uber driver. the postal service is looking to save money by testing self-driving delivery trucks.

we're back with this moment a sheriff's deputy right there was broadsided by this train. he drove around the crossing gate while rushing to help a boy who wasn't breathing. he saw one train pass but didn't look the other way when another train was coming. he did suffer some injuries but will be okay. now to the controversy surviving the popular kids' show "arthur." >> alabama public television has refused to air an episode of the cartoon because it features a same-sex wedding. the station is defending its decision amid a growing backlash. a children's cartoon at the center of controversy. alabama public tv is refusing to broadcast an episode of "arthur" that depicted the same-sex wedding of one of its most popular characters. >> who is getting married? >> me. >> reporter: in the first episode of the 22nd season mr. ratburn, arthur's teacher, marries his partner to the surprise of his students who

didn't know he's gay. >> mr. ratburn is married. i still can't believe it. >> yep, it's a brand-new world. >> reporter: the episode titled "mr. ratburn and the special someone" already aired on pbs stations nationwide, but arthur fans in alabama saw an episode that was different instead. the director of programming says although we strongly encourage parents to watch television with their children and talk about what they have learned afterwards, parents trust that their children can watch alabama public television without their supervision and went on to say, the vast majority of parents will not have heard about the content whether they agree with it or not. because of this we felt it would be a violation of trust to broadcast the episode. in a tweet the gay rights organization, glaad slammed it saying, lgbtq people exist in every part of life so the claim that someone could be too young to know that lgbtq people exist is absurd and sends a dangerous message to lgbtq youth. he calls the episode a teaching moment. >> the more we talked about it, the more we saw it as an

you can see that's where there's a shower right now. mid to upper 40s there. and once we get past 9:00 today look for increasing sunshine and temperatures milder, mid to upper 60s around the bay. let's find out about the commute. it was nice to drive on dry streets. hopefully that's what your commute is like. we could have a few soggy areas out the door today. zoom in on the golden gate bridge. we had a little delay on it looks like they just worked it out. no delays on camera. maybe a drop or two, maybe flipping the wipers on once or twice.

it is mostly dry. the real i.d., which at least until now, has been real confusing for a lot of people. >> good news, some of you who already have the new kind of driver's license won't have to go back to the dmv after all. reporter anser hassan is live in san jose. >> reporter: a situation that could impact about 3 million californians. you have a real i.d. but didn't provide two forms of i.d. you may be getting a letter from the dmv. the dmv only required one form of document to show proof of residency. then the department of homeland security changed the requirements and want two forms. the dmv is trying to simplify the process. if you need a letter in the mail, verify your address, check the box to confirm your mailing address is correct and send it back to the dmv in the prepaid envelope. the dmv was supposed to send the letter out in april but there have been delays.

beginning in october 2020 you will need a california real i.d. if you want to fly domestically. your old driver's license won't work. california has been issuing them since january of 2018. if you have a real i.d. with one form of residency it's still valid to drive in california but at some point you will have to provide the second form of documentation. in san jose, anser hassan, abc 7 news. >> it's been certainly confusing for so many. >> and i still don't have one. >> me either. 4:30. if you're just joining us, a quick update on weather and traffic. hi, mike.
