like you. the laughing cow. area. this is abc 7 mornings. >> it's saturday, may 25th and good morning, and thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the first look at accuweather forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi, chris. we do have the fog and that would make it seem like we have a usual pattern and with some sunshine here out over the bay in emoriville looks pretty nice and temperatures are cool in the 50s and 54 in san francisco and the mid-50s half moon bay and 57 in san jossy and look at how nicely it's cleared out here by the shark tank. it's cooler in santa rosa, but numbers coming up into the mid and upper 50s right now and they'll continue their climb throughout the 60s by midday and by the afternoon, we have some mild 70s in our inland valleys, more sunshine than clouds and it

should be a pretty nice day, enjoy it because as we rank the next several days, tomorrow is the bummer with rain. chris? >> lisa, thank you. developing this morning, some northern california residents are rallying a massive hailstorm and tornado warning. >> shasta county kicked off the weekend with some extraordinary weather. take a look at this golf ball-sized hail that came down in redding. here are more images that we got into the newsroom overnight and the violent hail was the least of worries in the bay area. the national weather service issued a tornado warning for southern shasta county. clouds over the region looked ominous and people there were urged to take shelter and there was a flash floarngod news, bot have since expired. you can always check the weather conditions where you live on the abc 7 news app. it gives you access to live doppler 7. that's the same system we use in

our weather center. >> we made some mistakes in this investigation and there were things we should have done better. >> this morning a sudden about face from san francisco police on the raid of a journalist's home. chief william scott is now apologizing and mayor reed is calling for an independent investigation. it all stems back to adachi. bryan carmody obtained the police report on adachi's death and sold it to abc 7 and other stations. in april, police asked carmody to reveal his source for the report, but he refused. on may 10th, police then raided carmody's home seizing thousands of dollars of equipment. press groups across the country protested the raid. earlier this week, a judge ordered police to return carmody's equipment. chief scott previously said carmody was under investigation for criminal conspiracy. now the police chief is issuing an apology in an interview with

the i-team's dan noyes. >> reporter: two weeks after officers searched a search warrant on bryan carmody's home and office, seizing 68 items including cameras, phones and notes. >> what concerns did you come away with? >> we made some mistakes and we had some concerns. there were concerns with language in particularly one of the warrants. >> reporter: chief scott said the warrant did not identify carmody as a journalist, but as a freelance videographer and communications director. journalists are protected under state and federal law. jim wheaton with the first amendment project. >> no warrant shall be issued for journalist materials. that's the law. no warrant, period. so you can never search a journalist's offices or newsroom to get confidential source ever. >> reporter: i had to push the chief to apologize to carmody after the graduation of the 263rd police academy at the

scottish rite masonic center. >> i do owe people of san francisco. >> how about to bryan carmody. >> to bryan carmody, as well. >> why? w mistakes. >> mayor reed has ordered an investigation into the issue who leaked to carmody who then sold video, information he gathered and that police report to several stations including abc 7. reed released a statement saying i'm glad the chief acknowledged the mistakes and i remain disappointed in the actions taken in this case up to today. this is unacceptable and we have to do better. bryan carmody declined to comment and his criminal defense attorney wrote, the department needs real reform that the sfpd respects the first amendment and independence of free speech. chief scott is talking to outside agents wouldn't say whether carmody could once

again become a suspect. for the i-team, dan noyes, abc 7 news. developing news, the hiker who disappeared in a hawaiian forest more than two weeks ago has been found alive. amanda eller has not been seen since may 8th. ariel rashef has more on eller's rescue. >> reporter: this morning, jubilation in maui. >> we found her, guys! we did it! >> reporter: the first images of the dramatic rescue of amanda eller, the yoga instructor who went missing in hawaii more than two weeks ago, found alive in the kailua reservoir, four miles from where she vanished. you can see the fire department airlifting her. >> there she goes! >> in this photo, amanda sunburned and slightly disheveled, but alert moments after she was discovered. po rescue. seen alongside search partner steve burquist who tells us

young protested climate change in walkouts around the globe yesterday. that included high school students here in the bay area. the inspiration for these walkouts actually came from a 16-year-old girl in sweden. she's encouraging people to advocate for climate change policies in their communities. we met students in los altos who are turning that inspiration into action. >> climate change has got to go! >> these students at los altos high school walked out of their classes trying to tackle what they say is a catastrophe. >> we cannot wait anymore and we are running out of time and we are out here trying to encourage that. >> many wanting the trump administration to acknowledge that climate change is real. >> we are almost at the point where individual change can't do it. large-scale changes in the system with regulation and policies put in place. >> an opportunity to not only educate, but also inspire. >> we need to really slowdown our issue that we

bay from mount tam, low 50s in santa rosa and a little breeze ney spots, 57 in concord, livermore, 55 and all of the sun here as you cross the golden gate bridge into marin county, partly cloudy today and we'll see sun at our beaches and it will be wet and windy, sharply cooler for your sunday and we recover in terms of sunshine and temperatures still on the cooler side of normal. so the winds are a bit of a factor this morning gusting to 26 miles an hour. downtown, the coast up to 21 miles an hour and out towards livermore, the higher elevations and mount diablo and gusty, as well. keep that in mind if you're out this afternoon, it will be breezy and those winds coming off of the ocean keeping it in the low 60s and san francisco with 59 half moon bay and 79 up for bottle rock and that's a pretty cool afternoon. when you get some of the sun away from the sea breeze it feels pretty good out there. 70 in livermore and we'll be

with us. i'm chris nguyen. a pleasant start weekend and there are changes ahead in the accuweather forecast. lisa argen has more on the current conditions where you live. >> hi, chris. starting to find a good picture and we start with the sutro tower camera and we can see haze and cloudiness and temperatures are typical in the 50s. 57 in san jose, and this is our balmer peak camera. you can see how the fog has made it into the east bay valleys and 55 in vacaville and with that stronger onshore push, we certainly do have temperatures not where they should be for this time of year and at about 10:00, 50s and 60s. it's sunny, though and we will arrive into the 70s by the middle of the afternoon and the 70s and then the clouds will increase towards the latter part of the day and they'll drop off into the 60s and the temperatures and with the clouds

this and the fog is just that several different layers, so it looks extra nice, i think, this morning, but if you're looking at the three-day outlook, maybe not so nice and if you want the warm and sunny weather. today it's cooler than average. 50s, 60s and 70s. if you can believe it, scattered showers throughout the day and much, much cooler and breezy and for the holiday we get into more sunshine, but you'll need the jacket and it is still trending cool. here is emoriville where you can see the clouds in the distance and they've scattered out pretty nicely and we're looking at not only the clouds and the low deck of clouds in the bay area and several levels of clouds providing showers and heavy downpours in the mountains for the weekend. so not only do we have the rain and we have low snow levels down to 6500 feet and this is the central sierra where we'll be looking at our winter weather advisory through 5:00 monday and two to four inches of snow and

if we look at the entire state over the weekend, we're all really chilly now with some mist and drizzle along the coast, but the most progressive weather will be the heaviest rain into the higher elevation and we're certainly not alone in this and we're looking at things changing by the upcoming second half and 53 in santa cruz, and san francisco, 54, a beautiful shot here with some of the cloud cover and you can see that it is sunny up above, but you know, the winds are a factor as well, the higher you get in height here. 55, vacaville. 57 in concord and 53 in santa rosa and right now, in the city down around the bay the winds are flat. they'll be up to about 20 miles an hour today. we'll call it partly cloudy, mostly sunny and then looking at wet, windy, cooler weather tomorrow and the showers and memorial day will be sunny, but cool. so if you're headed to the beach today, why not, right?
