a call to resign coming from san francisco's police officers association pointed at the city's police chief. >> this comes after the chief apologized for the raid to find out who leaked a police report into the death of former san francisco public offender jeff adachi. >> lisa amin gulezian joins us live from the newsroom to explain this one. >> reporter: there is outrage from many in the department's rank and file. they claim the chief violated the journalist's first amendment rights. search warrant and sledgehammer in hand, san francisco police officers tried to force open the doors of freelance journalist brian carmodi's home and office. they seized computers, cameras, notes. the goal was to find out who leaked a police report into the death of public defender jeff adachi. >> well, we made mistakes. >> reporter: chief bill scott admitted this yesterday and says the warrant did not identify carmodi as a journalist, but rather as a freelance videographer and communications director. journalists have constitutional

protections. professor margaret russell teaches the first amendment at santa clara university. >> just storming into someone's apartment and seizing computers and all sorts of files is way over the line. >> we're either asking the chief to voluntarily resign, if he doesn't resign, we're asking that he be fired. >> reporter: san francisco's police officers association wants the chief out after what happened. >> it's obviously a convenient case of amnesia. i'm calling his bluff, that he did have complete knowledge of the investigation. >> reporter: richard coria is a former commander at sfpd. he's sure the association's accusations are hurting the chief. >> he's their leader. to have a question about his confidence to lead is probably devastating to a leader. >> reporter: meantime in a statement, sfpd said today chief scott has made it abundantly clear that transparency and accountability are paramount in this criminal investigation. that is why sfpd is seeking an

detectives suspected a 19-year-old man in pinson's disappearance, butter than dough castro died in a shoot-out with police in santa barbara county one day after pinson disappeared. investigators focused a large part of their search for pinson in jenner along the sonoma county coast. oakland police are looking for the person who stabbed two people in front of a church this afternoon. it happened around 4:00 in front of the west oakland church of christ on 12th street near lindon. both victims were taken to the hospital, their conditions have not been released. new details about some east bay beef thieves. shoplifters in berkeley stole hundreds of dollars' worth of high-quality japanese beef. >> the owner of the tokyo fish market caught one of the suspects stuffing the beef inside a purse. here's abc 7 news fast.thesllartuing ound worth o psteane known as wagyu. >> this piece of meat is $89.99

a pound. so that piece, if you were to buy the whole piece, is $1,103.28. >> reporter: the japanese wagyu is hard to come by. the owner of the market said his employees confronted the couple but they denied the allegations. then minutes later they ran off. according to the employees, the woman handed off her purse with the beef inside to a third person who wa waiting for them a block away. off camera, the store owner said he filed a police report and confirmed that other thieves also tried to steal the beef this week but left empty-handed. >> he ordered like $250 worth of stuff. >> reporter: the butcher shop in san francisco is the largest retailer of japanese a-5 wagyu in the western hemisphere. >> i've been doing this since i was train. >> reporter: one offer guy krem said this beef is like fine wine. >> the reason why it's so expensive is it's imported over, this particular type of wagyu here. there's only about 100 animals produced or sold for export

looking for 35-year-old amanda eller. from the air and on the ground, volunteers searched without any luck. until friday when the yoga instructor was spotted. rescuers looked down from their search helicopter and saw the woman between two waterfalls waving her arms to get their attention. >> like a movie, like a double take. >> reporter: rescuers airlifted her to safety and took her to the hospital. she had lost 15 pounds and survived by foraging berries and drinking local water. she got lost and injured in the forest. her mother says her leg was fractured and would require additional treatment, but says she's in surprisingly good shape. >> i was crying with tears of joy, you know. i just am so incredibly grateful to have my girl home. >> reporter: her disappearance triggered a massive search and even a cash reward. but her family never gave up hope. >> even though at times i would have those moments of despair, i stayed strong for her because i knew that we would find her. >> reporter: alisa rainy

reporting. a former mill valley resident who now lives in maui and is friends with amanda said she knew she'd make it home safe. sara haines met amanda on work projects. haines facetimed with abc 7 news. >> from the first day i said, this girl is emotionally strong, she's physically strong, she's spiritually strong. i new enough about her because ben talked about her incessantly, he was so in love with her. i knew this is somebody who, if anybody's going to make it, it's going to be amanda. >> haines said amanda did all the right things, harvesting water from the forest and sourcing food like berries and fruits. she lost 15 pounds while missin is loong ethend airportin neyork vlated f bery denying leases to chick-fil-a due to religious beliefs. federal regulations prohibit airport operators from excluding businesses based on the owner's

right now we have green on the screen at this moment and that leading edge is in the north bay right now. i do just want to zoom in briefly. we're finding one lone heavier downpour in the north bay just to the west of pen grove. that pop of yellow on the screen is rain. that potentially is coming down close to .25 inches per hour. we're going to find more isolated downpours as we go through the next 24 hours with this storm system. as of right now, a deck of cloud cover overhead. as the storm moves through, we will have some delays at sfo due to low cloud cover and rain moving through. the accuweather highlights the next couple of days, tomorrow it's going to feel like winter out there. almost like a mid-january day with these scattered showers and really cold temperatures for this time of the year. memorial day itself on monday will start out with a fair amount of cloud cover. it's dry and we'll squeak out sunshine to finish it by monday

until then smith has until june 30th to move out. a california man is dead after he was attacked by a shark this morning in maui. the 65-year-old victim was found by firefighters unresponsive in the ocean about 60 yards off a popular tourist area. firefighters performed cpr but he passed away from his injuries. his name and hometown have not been released. new developments now with the rebuilding of santa rosa. a construction company could be in trouble. "the press democrat" reports three more families have filed lawsuits against the diarra monta construction company, a story abc 7 news has been following. multiple people have complained of spending tens of thousands and the contractor doing little or no work on their homes. the state is also looking into the central valley company. kiara monta construction has not responded to the latest allegations but last week the company told us it did not anticipate the obstacles it faced in the north bay, but says it can finish the job.

in developing news, contract talks set to resume tomorrow in the new haven unified teachers strike. both sides held marathon sessions that ended after midnight this morning. teachers walked off the job last monday. teachers at union city and hayward schools want a 10% raise over the next two years. the district says it cannot afford that. in the east bay, high school seniors received graduation presents that will help them conquer college. abc 7 news was in oakland where college-bound seniors were given free or deeply discounted laptops and desktops. a partnership between oakland unified and tech exchange makes it possible for eligible high school seniors to get the preowned computers. we get them all prepped so that we can get them back out to the community. so all the computers are loaded with new operating systems, tested three times, and we provide a year warranty if they run into any problems. >> bay area tech companies donated many of the computers. golden gate bridge's two parking lots will be off limits to weekend visitors until labor

day. closures start this weekend. the lots simply get too crowded with visitors during summer weekends. traffic backing up spilling onto the bridge, visitors being asked to take buses or use ride shares if they want to take in the view. the former business manager of stan lee has been arrested on elder abuse charges. cam morgan was arrested this afternoon in arizona. he faces felony theft allegations, embezzlement, and false imprisonment of an elder adult. prosecutors say morgan tried to control lee despite the fact he had no authority to act on his behalf. morgan's attorney rejected those allegations. lee died in november at the age of 95. iron chef mass laura morimoto has used his sushi-making skills to set a new record on the williams sonoma culinary stage carving a 205-pound tuna into 100 portions of sushi.
