thunderstorms to the east of us. this is a very cold air mass. that area of low pressure that's spinning the atmosphere to the north of us will come right on over the bay area throughout the day today. look at the wind gusts, 30 to 40 miles an hour. san francisco, oakland, it is breezy, it's cold, it's going to be rainy soon and wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour around mt. tam. so memorial day today, we're looking at showers. this is tomorrow, memorial day. today rainy conditions and cool. tomorrow, though, that's improving. chris. >> lisa, thank you. breaking news in san francisco. dozens of firefighters are on the scene of a two-alarm fire in hunter's point. it started just after 4:00 this morning on ennes avenue near third street. about 70 firefighters are battling the flames at a three-story home. the fire has spread to a nearby building. no one was hurt. people are being asked to avoid the area.

new overnight, both directions of highway 17 in santa clara county are closed because of a wreck. a car traveling south on the highway crashed into a pole near idyllwild road just before 1:00 this morning. pg&e was sent out as a precaution around 2:00 a.m. one woman has been arrested. there is no estimated time of reopening for either direction. the time now is 5:02. developing news. a call to resign. that's coming from the san francisco police officers association and it's pointed at the city's police chief. this comes after the chief apologized for the raid to find out who leaked a police report into the death of public defender jeff adachi. lisa explains. >> reporter: with a search warrant and a sledgehammer in hand, san francisco police officers tried to force open the doors of free lance journalist brian carmady's home and office earlier this month. they seized computers, cameras and notes. the goal was to find out who leaked a police report into the

death of the public defender, jeff adachi. the jeff said the warrant did not identify carmady as a journalist but a photographer. journalists have constitutional protections. >> just storming into someone's apartment and seizing computers and all sorts of files line. >> we're either asking the chief to voluntarily resign. if he doesn't resign, we are asking that he be fired. >> reporter: the police officers association wants the chief out after what happened. >> it's obviously a case of amnesia. i'm calling his bluff that he did have complete knowledge of the investigation. >> reporter: richard korea is a former commander at sfpd. he's sure the association's accusations are hurting the chief. >> he's their leader. to have a question about his confidence to lead is probably devastating to a leader.

>> reporter: meantime in a statement, sfpd said chief scott has made it abundantly clear that transparency and accountability are paramount in this criminal investigation. that is why sfpd is seeking an independent, impartial third party to take over the original criminal case. mayor london breed has also called for an independent external investigation of the police department's conduct in this matter. >> the i-team's dan noyes has been following the story. on friday night dan pushed chief scott to apologize. >> i owe an apology. >> to whom? >> to the people of san francisco. >> how about to brian carmady. >> why? >> we made some mistakes. >> the chief says he is talking to ts been selected yet. he would not say whether carmady would be considered a suspect. abc 7 news sent out a breaking

news push alert as soon as they learned the union was pushing for the chief to go. sign up for updates sent to your mobile device. in san francisco we're learning new information about a shooting at ocean beach. it happened just after 10:00 last night near the upper great highway. one man was shot. park police tell us there was an altercation, but they're still trying to figure out what led up to it. at last check, officers were looking for a suspect they say ran off. oakland police are looking for the person who stabbed two people in front of a church. it happened yesterday afternoon around 4:00 in front of the west oakland church of christ on 12th street. both victims were taken to the hospital. their conditions have not been released. new detlsbo se east bay beef thieves. shoplifters in berkeley stole hundreds of dollars worth of high-quality japanese beef. the owner of the tokyo fish market caught one of the tf inde a purse.

abc 7 news reporter luz pena has more. >> reporter: looking around and moving fast, these alleged thieves were caught stuffing around $300 worth of pristine japanese beef, known as wagyu. >> this piece of meat i$89.99 a pound. if you were to buy the whole piece, it's $1,103.20. >> reporter: the wagyu is hard to come by. the owner of the market said his employees confronted the couple and they denied the allegations. but then they ran off. a woman handed off her purse to a third person waiting for them a block away. off camera the store owner said he filed a police report and confirmed that other thieves also tried to steal the beef this week but left empty-handed. >> he ordered like $250 worth of stuff. >> reporter: the butcher shop in san francisco is the largestree ng this sense i sphere.

was 14. >> reporter: the butcher said this beef is like fine wine. >> the reason why it's so expensive is it's imported over, this particular type of wagyu. there's only about 100 animals sold for export every year. >> reporter: after this incident the fish market changed their policy and customers have to pay for their beef before picking it up from the deli. some employees believe the thieves probably didn't enjoy the beef the right way. >> the only thing is if it didn't bring ice, it probably would have melted by the time they ran away with it. this weekend marks the third anniversary of a teenage girl who disappeared while walking to school no one saw her again. pinson would have graduated from high school this year. her sister hopes a new detective asigned to the case might solve the mystery. >> kind of scary pause i don't

want him messing anything up. at the same time, i have to trust him because he's new eyes to her case. he could be the one that finds where she's at. >> solano county sheriff's detectives suspected a 19-year-old man in the disappearance but fernando castro died in a shootout with police in santa barbara county one day after pinson disappeared. investigators focused a large part of their search for pinson in jenner, along the coast. across the country here in the bay area, ceremonies mark the beginning of the memorial day weekend. ♪ abc 7 news was in san bruno when bagpipers played during a tribute to america's fallen at goen volunteers placed a flag at every grave. a similar ceremony took place at the cemetery at the presidio.

>> it is awesome seeing all the people who die f ourfod pci kids are her eoying freedoausef pen this it. >> the tradition of placing a flag at veterans' graves dates back to the end of america's deadliest conflict, the civil war. the two parking lots at the golden gate bridge will be offlimits to weekend visitors until labor day. the lots get too crowded with visitors during summer weekends, traffic backing up from the lots, then spills onto the bridge. visitors are asked to take buses or use ride shares if they want to take in that picturesque view. in the east bay buses are replacing b.a.r.t. trains between pleasant hill and concord stations this memorial day weekend for track rebuilding work. the buses are free and running today through monday. b.a.r.t. is advising riders traveling through the area to plan for an additional 20 minutes of travel time.

bay bridge on this sunday morning. traffic music along quite nicely along the embarcadero. we'll get a check of the full accuweather forecast coming up in just a little bit. first, new details to report this morning on comic book legend stan lee. the former business manager of the man behind disney's marvel universe has been arrested on elder abuse charges. he was arrested yesterday in arizona and faces felony theft allegations and false imprisonment of an elder adult. he tried to control lee despite the fact he had no ability to act on his behalf. lee died in november at the age of 95. disney is the parent company of abc 7. three people were hurt when a ride at castle park in riverside malfunctioned. take a look. the log that carries the riders on the log ride flipped throwing

them into the water yesterday afternoon. one of the riders is in critical condition. officials say one of the water pumps used to slow down the log malfunctioned, allowing the log to gain speed. castle park is still open but the log ride is closed for an investigation. a california man is dead after a shark attacked him yesterday morning in maui. firefighters found the 65-year-old unresponsive in the ocean about 60 yards offshore. that's a popular tourist area. firefighters performed cpr on the man but he died from his injuries. his name and hometown have not been released. officials say this is the sixth shark attack in hawaii this year. there were only three all of last year. the time now is 5:15. a woman missing for more than two weeks in hawaii has been found alive. the 35-year-old yoga instructor is recovering at a hospital following a helicopter rescue. reporter melissa rainey has a closer look at the daring save and what rescuers are crediting

for her survival. >> reporter: a miraculous rescue. two weeks after a woman hiked into a forest in hawaii and disappeared, she's been found alive. >> oh, look at that hiker. what? and out woodwork you see amanda, my friend. >> reporter: searchers combed the island of maui for days looking for 35-year-old amanda eller. from the air and on the ground, volunteers searched without any luck. that was until friday when the yoga instructor was spotted. rescuers looked down from their search helicopter and saw the woman between two water falls waving her arms to get her attention. >> it's like a movie, man, like a double take. >> reporter: rescuers airlifted her out to safety and took her to the hospital. she had lost 15 pounds and survived by foraging berries and she got lost and injured in the forest. her mother said her leg was fractured and would require additional treatment but she was in surprisingly good shape.

>> i was crying with tears of joy. i'm just so incredibly grateful to have my girl home. >> reporter: her disappearance triggered a massive search and even a cash reward, but her family never gave up hope. >> even though at times i would have those moments of despair, i stayed strong for her because i knew that we would find her. >> reporter: i'm melissa rainey, reporting. a former mill valley resident who now lives on maui and is friends with amanda said she knew she'd make it home safe. sara haines met amanda and her boyfriend, ben, on work projects. haines face timed with abc news yesterday. >> i said this girl is emotionally strong, physically strong, spiritually strong. ben talked about her incessantly because he was so in love with her. i just knew this is somebody who if anybody is going to make it, it's going to be amanda. >> haines said amanda did all the right things, harvesting

water from the forest and sourcing food like berries and fruits. she lost 15 pounds while missing. in other news, at least two people are dead after a reported tornado swept through oklahoma. drone video shows the destruction in el reno after a hotel hit a hotel, mobile home park and several other buildings. an unknown number of people remain missing this morning. a woman described the terrifying moments when the twister touched down. >> i heard it coming, i felt trailer 80 hit our trailer. i know trailer 80 flipped over on top of 81, which we were in. and after everything was over with and all the shaking and jarring and everybody landing on the floor, the sirens went off. >> the reported tornado comes on the heels of a very active severe weather week. more than 100 tornados were reportedcroseigh over.>>ack hn the bay calmer seas a festive night for more than 100 san francisco high schoolers.

1. we're looking at scattered showers, brief downpours, lightning, possibility of thunderstorms and already seeing rain on the peninsula. temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below where they should be. as we start out with live doppler 7 in a loop, you can see from the peninsula southward to davenport we're looking at pretty active weather. the low is to the north of us. the front is providing showers for highway 35, page mill road and just to the south and west of sand hill road and further south looking at some pretty good rain from swanton down through santa cruz. look at this system. we've got the upper level low here. some pretty good rain around chico. thunderstorms and snow in the mountains. in fact temperatures in the mid- breezy winds and we're looking at that winter weather advisory right on through monday morning. 3 to 7 inches of snow. snow levels coming down to 5500 feet and up to 9 inches in the

highest peaks. right now it's in the 50s. 53 in san jose, 55 in mountain view, 51 in napa, but check out the winds. they are gusting to 40 miles an hour in oakland. these are surface winds. but look at napa and fairfield . it is going to be a raw day out there. upper elevations, i just checked wind gusts up to 55 miles an hour, altamont pass and colors indicate very, very gusty winds. pretty neat shot here. you can see the flag blowing and this will continue. rainy, breezy and cool. sunny and warmer to remember. hour by hour, by about 9:00 we've got scattered showers. the clouds right around the peninsula, san jose, taking you into noon time still more showers north bay, east bay. it isn't going to end. it's going to be with us through the afternoon. 2:00 you can see it's wet, it is cool out there. this area of low pressure taking its time as it moves through the

area. with a little bit of sunshine, we could see a few downpours and maybe even some lightning out there. but let's add up the totals. it looks like most of the activity is going to be from the higher elevations. ben lomond a quarter of an inch. the delta could get under a thunderstorm, some heavy downpours and we could see some of these rain totals add up. here's a look at the winds. check out the colors here. so right on through the day today, 25-mile-an-hour winds at the coast up to about 20 miles all around the bay. this is all day long. it's going to be a cold, wet, breezy day today. highs only in the upper 50s, maybe some lower 60s. but check out what happens for tomorrow, the holiday, memorial day. starting out cloudy. then low 60s around the bay by noon time. it's still going to be cool but it's going to be bright and that trend will continue. in fact the warmer weather throughout the rest of the week. the accuweather seven-day forecast, today we have got a winter scenario. tomorrow a little bit better and then into the middle of the week

the showers, hit and miss. sometimes you could get caught in a heavier downpour just off the coast of santa cruz. as we widen the perspective, there's the low to the north of us. it's snowing around mt. shasta. we have thunderstorms in the central valley. we have a winter weather advisory in the mountains. look at the winds here locally, gusting up to 31 miles an hour in san francisco. so scattered showers today, 15 degrees below average. 50s and 60s, a much nicer memorial day on the way. chris. >> lisa, thank you. the president is on the second day of his four-day trip to japan and it appears to be going well. japanese prime minister shinzo abe even snapped a selfie with president trump on the golf course. abe said he and the president discussed a wide range of important topics and has deepened their friendship amid a cozy atmosphere. president trump also said that progress has been made on a trade deal. president trump is also attending a sumo wrestling competition today. the japanese cultural tradition dates back centuries.

the president will presenting the winner with a special award, the president's cup, or as some call it, the trump cup. it's nearly five feet tall and weighs more than 60 pounds. coming up on this week, co-anchor martha radditz goes on the campaign trail with 2020 candidate mayor pete buttigieg. happening today, contract talks are set to resume in the new haven united teachers strike. both sides held a marathon session that ended after midnight yesterday morning. teachers walked off the job last monday. teachers at union city and hayward schools want a 10% raise over the next two years, but the district says it can't afford it. in novato, a seventh grader is on the brink of possibly winning $50,000 and becoming a household name. the scripps national spelling bee kicks off tomorrow, and this

good morning, everyone. the time right now is 5:40. we're taking a live look outside from san jose. the view of the sap center there. rain is on the way for part of the bay area. we'll get a full report from lisa argen coming up in just a little bit. first, lake tahoe is a little bluer than it used to be. researchers say the clarity of the water improved last year from its worst level in a half century. scientists at the university of california davis believe the improvement is due to weather and runoff returning to more normal conditions. the lake's clarityas by 10.5 they hope efforts will eventually return lake tahoe to its historical clear depth of 1000 feet. >> you know how they do that?

sunday. in fact we're looking at our storm impact scale once again as we usher in memorial day, which of course everyone thinks is the unofficial start to summer. but maybe not quite around here because we will be looking at a cool, breezy day today with scattered showers. it is a 1 on our storm impact scale. we could even see a thunderstorm and we're looking at the possibility of anywhere from about a 10th of an inch of rain in some spots and temperatures at least 15 degrees below where they should be for this time of year. here's our roof camera where it doesn't look too bad right now. we've got dry pavement and a few clouds. it doesn't look too breezy but heree doppler 7. you can see some of the showers skirting parts of the peninsula along the coast. a little closer in the hills here looking at wet weather west of saratoga. also around mt. hamilton, just checked the temperature, it's at about 36 degrees here. so we could even see some mixed precip there before the day is out. and right along the coast down

through santa cruz it's gray, it's breezy and it's cool. the wider perspective shows the twist in the atmosphere, the area of low pressure. we will have some heavy downpours. we're looking at some thunderstorms, also some snow in the mountains. temperatures are in the mid-30s here around truckee. we have mixed precip up around mt. shasta. really the entire state looking at an unusual weather pattern with our winter weather advisory continuing into tomorrow. 5 to 7 inches of snow at pass levels and we could see 9 or 10 inches in the highest elevations. here's mt. tam. it's breezy, it's cool, it's cloudy, we've got some fog and looking at numbers in the low 50s in san francisco. look at sfo, doesn't this look foreboding here. it looks a little bit slick out there. showers will be in and around the bay area today. it is going to be winds certaint feel cooler. look at that, 31-mile-an-hour wind gusts at sfo.

novato 33 miles an hour. concord up to 23. by the delta, nearly 30. everywhere around the bay today, especially at the coast, it will be gusty to windy. so anywhere from 40 miles an hour close to mt. diablo. if you're going to do any bike rides today, not the greatest day. look at the mountains. can you believe this? yeah, temperatures are cool. we're looking at cool conditions today. sunny and warmer tomorrow and with warmer days ahead each and every day. here are the scattered showers, 9:00. it continues into the afternoon. here's noon time. as we get towards 2:00 we've got the clouds, we've got the breezy conditions and we still have the showers. amounts, they will be light. we're talking about anywhere from 0.05 tbe 0.2 or so. some areas that get heavier downpours could see heavier amounts. the colors indicate the gusty conditions all throughout the day, especially at the coast, and then this will take us through the evening hours. only 50s today, maybe a few 60s

with a thunderstorm. so as we look all the way down the peninsula to the coast here at boulder creek, scots valley, some wet weather. mt. hamilton could even see mixed precip here. temperatures are only in the mid-30s in the upper elevations, so it is going to be breezy and cool today offshore. still some showers. as ween the perspective, the area of low pressure the culprit for this unseasonably cool weather is to the north of us. that twist in the atmosphere encompassing much of the state today. so the winds, look at them, gusting to over 28 miles an hour to the north of
