>> reporter: four minutes of terror in oklahoma. >> bodies everywhere, people everywhere, don't know dead or alive. >> reporter: an ef-3 tornado tearing through el reno, a small town just outside of oklahoma city. >> my ex-wife called and said that the tornado just took our house out and that the kids were still inside. >> reporter: 145 mile-per-hour winds annihilated everything in their path. the second floor of this hotel sheered off. a nearby trailer park decimated. >> we heard screaming, children and adults both. >> we could hear them but we couldn't get to them. >> there's no way for us to get out. we had to punch a hole in the wall for us to get out. >> reporter: this boy was trapped in the rubble after his home was flipped by the powerful winds. >> i was in a chair at the time. i fell back in it and when we get up, the whole house was yefr turned. >> reporter: at least two dead and dozens of others injured. witnesses describe the scene as rescuers comb through piles of

debris in search of survivors. >> a lot of destruction, a lot of chaos and a lot of dead. >> reporter: officials say people in the path of the powerful twister didn't have time to take cover. the warning issued just minutes before the tornado touched down. >> it looked to be just like a regular oklahoma thunderstorm and all of a sudden it hit and the next thing you know they were talking about debris in the air. >> reporter: the entire state of oklahoma is now in a state of emergency as another storm threatens to bring more tornados and destructive winds. >> and we will have more on the path of the latest storm coming up in less than five minutes. turning overseas to president trump's state visit to japan, chock full of pomp and pageantry, the president became the first head of state to meet japan's new emperor just weeks after he ascended to the throne and he sat down for talks with the japanese prime minister. they touched on trade, iran, north korea and much more. we have the details from washington.

concerns expressed by trump's national security adviser, john bolton and prime minister abe about north korea's recent missile test, the president tweeted mid-trip that he is confident chairman kim will keep his promise to him and that he wasn't bothered by the, quote, small weapons fired off. >> i personally think that lots of good things will come with north korea. >> reporter: his trip also comes amid trade tensions between the two countries escalated by threats trump made earlier this month to raise auto tariffs, calling imported vehicles a threat to national security. >> we will talk to japan about autos. i will say at the same time since i'm president, many auto companies have announced and have actually built and are building plants in the united states. >> reporter: and also while on stage in tokyo, president trump called former president barack obama's administration a disaster on the economy and the iran nuclear deal among many

things he said. he also said he's not a fan of joe biden. as we know, that's not the first time he's mentioned joe biden while on this trip. kenneth, elizabeth? >> mona, thank you. a family in chicago is demanding answers after a crash involving two police cruisers killed a woman. officers were answering an emergency call when they slammed into several vehicles. verona gunn, in her 80s, was killed in the crash. ten police officers were also injured. one driver caught the crash on video. >> there was two other cars that were also in the accident and one happened to be a lady who was pregnant, and she messaged me this morning to, like, just thanking me for the videos. they're able to show the doctors what happened. >> gunn's son says he wants someone held accountable for the crash. police have not yet said what emergency call they were responding to at the time of the crash. now to the rip current dangers this memorial day. this morning the coast guard is searching for a 16-year-old who disappeared while swimming in texas. it comes as rip currents close several beaches in the lone star state.

in north carolina an entire family was caught in a rip current. three children were rescued but their father did not survive. and in another incident, a man drowned after getting pulled out to sea. his son was able to save two others from the current. >> there was only a yellow flag out that day but it could change in an instant. i was able to save two people. my girlfriend got saved. by the time i got to my old man, it -- it just happened real quick. >> officials are warning people to always swim in front of a lifeguard. time now for a look at your weather for this monday morning. >> good morning. downpours will be numerous throughout the north central part of the country. minneapolis, sioux falls, des moines, chicago, milwaukee, flooding downpours and travel disruption courtesy of thunderstorms. look for rain to reach throughout the rocky mountain rod the great lakes he a

a fire at a hotel's parking garage covered downtown houston in smoke. the blaze started in one of the vehicles parked inside. in all, two cars were destroyed. however, there weren't any injuries and so far no word on a cause. a desperate search is under way for a missing 5-year-old girl in utah. elizabeth shelley was last seen by her mother saturday morning at their home near salt lake city. police say the girl's uncle, alexander whipple, is the main suspect. he was visiting the family's home when the girl disappeared. whipple was arrested saturday on probation violation and other charges. authorities say he's not cooperating. now to that incredible survival story of a hiker in maui rescued after being lost in the woods for 17 days. amanda eller is now sharing details of her harrowing ordeal, saying she made a critical choice to stay alive. >> reporter: this morning, amanda eller is spending this memorial day resting. >> it did come down to life and death and i had to choose, and i

chose life. >> reporter: the 35-year-old was just released from the hospital after spending more than two weeks lost in a remote hawaii forest. eller says she got lost after going for a short run. >> she didn't have her phone. she didn't have any of those kind of tools. you could easily get turned around because everything looks the same. it would be very easy to get misguided. >> reporter: officials called off the search after 72 hours but volunteers dubbed amanda's angels persisted. >> you all were not going to give up. >> we were not going to give up. >> reporter: photos show the yoga instructor looking thin and overcome with emotion as she made the first phone call following her ordeal. >> the last 17 days of my life has been the toughest days of my life. >> reporter: amanda says she ate berries, plants and guavas to survive and even slept in a wild boar den, covering herself with ferns to sleep. the trained physical therapist nursed her own injuries which

cpr starting now. >> reporter: the 65-year-old california man identified as thomas smiley rushed to shore, his wife on the beach panicked. >> we could hear her screaming, that's my husband, that's my husband. >> reporter: lifeguards quickly transferring the victim to a gurney. witnesses describe the terrifying scene. >> they pulled the man out. he looked unconscious when they transferred him to the other gurney and we could see that they were trying to do cpr on him. but as we got closer i saw some blood. it was really traumatic to see. >> reporter: so far this year there have been 16 shark attacks with one fatality. that follows a very active season last year that saw 32 shark attacks and one fatality. maui is considered a hot spot for shark attacks in hawaii but this is the first fatality in the state since 2015 when a tiger shark bit a snorkeler. signs were posted following the attack. a small memorial now surrounding one of those signs.

daria albinger, abc news, new york. in florida a woman is expected to survive after a terrifying encounter with a massive alligator. witnesses say the gator was over eight feet long. according to doctors, the 26-year-old suffered significant bite injuries when the gator latched onto one of her legs as she swam in a pond near orlando. she was rescued by a group of bystanders who jumped in the water to save her. >> we're hanging out about waist to chest deep in the lake and then the next thing you know a girl starts screaming and luckily a couple guys react and grab her. next thing we know, we pull her out and her side and her thigh was open. 30 seconds later i see a gator head pop up. >> trappers recovered an 8.5-foot long alligator in that area. officials say gator bites are rare but warn the animals become more active in warm weather. scary moments at an

california amusement park when three family members were thrown from a water ride. a mother, father and son were injured at castle park in riverside after their log-shaped boat flipped over. the mother is currently in critical condition. park officials are blaming the accident on the ride's water levels, saying the water was too low to slow the boat. legendary pro football quarterback bart starr has died. starr led the green bay packers to victory in the first two super bowls and was named the mvp of those games. as tributes to the hall of famer poured in, another great packers quarterback, brett favre, tweeted, bart starr was the most kind, thoughtful and classiest person you could ever know. starr was 85. a close call at the indianapolis 500 when a mechanic was injured by a driver coming in for a pit stop. it happened as jordan king pulled into pit road, his car clipping a tire, sending it flying into a crew member, knocking the man backwards and injuring his leg.

it all ended here in antioch but according to our media partner the bay area news group three teenagers were arrested. look what police found inside the suspect's car. police say they found the cash register drawer from the gas station. they are accused of robbing. they say they also found a gun and masks. the officers say the suspects crashed their black car in antioch and ran into a white car in that crash. there was a foot chase. one person was tased by police. this all started at 8:00 last night at the arco gas station. it was robbed, and police say the attackers showed the clerk there a gun and a threatened the clerk. lafayette police spotted their car on the way out of town and then the chase began and it all ended in antioch. they all need to be medically cleared from the tasing and the crash.
