it's moving north to south so it's going to move away from us. a few open areas in the cloud deck which is the gray here, so we'll see more sunshine than yesterday, also. it's not going to be quite as breezy but still chilly by memorial day standards. if you're out and about 49 to 53 at 7:00. look at the 50s at the coast. mid-60s at 4:00. and back into the mid and upper 50s by 7:00. this will be the coolest day of my accuweather seven-day forecast. 80s coming back. i'll show you when coming up. first some traffic maybe. is there any? >> there is none. but i have to fill 15 seconds anyway. this is san jose 280. our drive times are in the green as you would expect on a holiday weekend. nobody trying to get anywhere right now. i do not blame them. another new chapter surrounding san francisco's embattled police chief as the police commission weighs in.

the story has taken several twists and turns since friday. that's when the police chief apologized for the raid on a journalist's home as they searched for who leaked the report on the death >> reporter: a statement which said in part chief scott did what is rare for police chiefs. he apologized to the citizens of san francisco. chief scott has shown himself to be a person of high integrity. we would like to see him continue the great reform work he has started. three hours later the police commission sent another email that said the statement issued to the media this morning regarding the adachi matter was on behalf of police commission hirsch and vice president taylor. at this time it would be inappropriate for the commission to opine further without seeing the results of a full and fair investigation. in equivocation was by unreserved criticism from the

police union who called for chief scott to resign. the san francisco police officers association said the chief's apology to the media for raiding brian carmody's home was to save face instead of taking responsibility for his own actions. >> there's a question of the veracity for the truth raised by this narrative and that's why i keep steering back to the police commission. >> reporter: a former commander at sfpd and director of the institute of criminal justice leadership and says they have a tremendous amount of authority over the police chief. >> it seems the police commission is in a position to find out where does that accountability stop. >> reporter: mayor london breed didn't comment after the latest back and forth over chief scott's fitness to lead. on friday she released a statement which says in part i'm glad that the chief has acknowledged the department's mistakes and apologized.

i remain deeply disappointed by the actions taken in the case up to today. this is unacceptable and we have to do better. the police commission's statement over the weekend the latest in the controversy over sfpd's raid of a journalist's home which has now led to a national debate on freedom of the press. in the newsroom, i'm kate larsen, abc 7 news. at least two people are dead, 29 others hurt after a tornado ripped through oklahoma. and look at this. this was el reno just outside oklahoma city. 145-mile-per-hour winds wiped out a hotel, a mobile home park and several other buildings in just four minutes. one boy was trapped after his home was flipped by the winds. >> there was no way to get out. i was in a chair at the time and i fell back in it. when we got up the whole house was overturned.

>> obviously we're glad he is okay this morning. officials say people in the path of the powerful cyclone didn't even have time to take cover. the warning was issued minutes before it hit. the entire state of oklahoma right now in a state of emergency as another storm threatens to bring more tornadoes and more destructive winds. we're tracking it all for you. >> we appreciate the update, thank you, jessica. happening today in san jose chief investigative reporter dan noyes will serve as master of memorial day ceremonies at oak hill memorial park this is video from last year's remembrance. the united veterans council of santa clara county has invited the public to four events starting with a japanese-american memorial. the grand army of the republic will be celebrated at 1:15 p.m. followed by the vietnam veterans field of honors ceremony at 2:15. and veterans issaluted the

abc 7 news was at san francisco's lands end for yesterday's ceremony honoring "uss san francisco." the ship's crew fought in the naval in 1942. a.m. lied forces stopped the japanese navy from sailing towards australia. "uss san francisco" was heavily damaged in that battle. sunshine and scattered clouds expected this memorial day across the bay area. this holiday weekend was wet, windy and chilly. don't need to tell you that if you were in town. this south bay surprise yesterday, hail in san jose. folks taking part in treasure fest on treasure island were bundled up in coats and scarves. weather may have been to blame for the low turnout at the thir cooking competition for those who brave the cold said they didn't need sunshine to have a good time. >> we're all warm in our hearts.

the same thing north of the bay bridge. it starts at 9:00 this morning and goes through 9:00 this evening. that would be a small craft advisory in the area you see in yellow. let's break down some neighborhoods. maybe you're staying home or going to a friend's, mid to upper 50s through 9:00 and then low to mid-60s from 11:00 to 7:00. how about up in the east bay valleys, mid to upper 50s from 7:00 to 9:00. mid to upper 60s from 11:00 all the way to 7:00. and in and out of sunshine from time to time. a brighter day and yesterday. stuck in the 50s through 11:00. mid-60s from noon to 5:00 and down to 60 at 7:00. a lot more cloud cover down across the south bay than other neighborhoods today. let's get a check of traffic. yeah, we're remaining vigilant on traffic though things are looking really quiet. take a look at your screen now. the richmond/san rafael bridge. a couple cars. traffic very light, flowing smoothly. all in the green. san rafael to san francisco, 19

it's 5:13. here are the 7 things to know this morning. number one, three teenaged suspects are reportedly under arrest for holding up a gas station and leading police on a chase through the east bay overnight t. ended in a crash. officers recovered a cash register drawer, masks and a gun. police are investigating a shooting at dolores park. one person was hit. he is expected to survive.

finals. this is the first finals appearance in franchise history. game one is thursday in toronto. you can watch it only here on abc 7. we've recently seen a wave of states passing more restrictive abortion laws. this morning illinois considering doing the opposite. a new bill that removes abortion restrictions is headed to the house floor today. it was a rare late night session last night and the human services committee passed a bill that would repeal the state's partial birth abortion ban act as well as the illinois abortion act of 1975. and the move takes away restrictions on abortions later in pregnancy and also expands insurance coverage for procedures as well as contraception. this is a very conversation bill that had previously beentaed foif theouse passay it st t the governor's desk. back to you, reggie. today marks 25 years since an east bay teenager was

sunshine than yesterday once it starts to come up around 5:51. what it's going to do, the temperatures, not much at the p 63 in santa cruz. low to mid-60s around the bay, into the south bay. notice mid-60s to near 70 in the north bay and also the east bay and the north bay valleys. as far as if you're going to the game, no hotter team around, nine consecutive wins for the a's. they bring the angels to town. first pitch 1:07. dropping down to 63. tonight we'll be in the 40s and low 50s with a little less cloud cover than the rest of us. my accuweather seven-day forecast, a big jump in temperatures, five to ten degrees away from the coast. that's that pattern change tomorrow. our first 80 degree high shows up inland. we'll pull back thursday because the fog will be a little bit thicker and then you can see by saturday and sunday we get rid of the morning fog and we turn

mid-70s and mid-80s into the afternoon highs. mike, thank you. now let's take a look at an incident that has popped up in oakland on 580 eastbound. this is backed up to lake shore avenue, so watch out if you're heading in that direction. there's a vehicle fire on the right shoulder. so be careful there. otherwise drive times all in the green this morning light as we head into our memorial day. and on this memorial day all veterans, active duty personnel and their families can ride the north bay's smart train for free. free entry to county parks all day today. officials say the offers are designed to honor and thank active and retired military members and their families for all they do for our country. californians could be voting on two tax hikes next year that would help schools. the state school board association is considering putting a measure on the november 2020 ballot and it would increase taxes for people with incomes over $1 million.

it's being billed as an $11 billion tax hike. according to the "l.a. times" there's another $11 billion tax increase proposal promising to create smaller class sizes and bump up teacher salaries. a trip to an amusement park turned into a terrifying ordeal after a person was thrown from a log flum ride. two other people went to the hospital following this accident at castle park in riverside. firefighters believe a pump malfunctioned and there wasn't enough water to slow down the log. one park guest says there were concerns about the ride. >> they said they've been having mechanical problems all day. >> all of our rides are inspected daily and do not open to the public until they have been signed off. and, additionally, the department of safety and health also does their testing on our rides. >> castle park's owners and state officials have opened investigations into what happened. police are cracking down on drunk drivers this long weekend.

ca dr. that car crashed in antioch, hit a white car when they exited. according to our media partner, three teenagers were arrested. one had to be tased by police. the teens will have to be checked out. this did all start at 8:00 last night at the arco gas station. police say they threatened the clerk there with a gun and a knife and got away with the money. officers say in addition to finding the cash drawer, they found a gun and masks in that getaway car.

president trump continuing formal talks this morning with japan's prime minister. it is day tla three of his four-day visit. mr. trump made history over the weekend to meet with japan's new emperor. the japanese rolled out the red carpet for the president and first lady during a welcome ceremony that included sumo wrestling. president trump fit in a round of golf with prime minister shinzo abe. the two wasted no time addressing important matters at the center of the state visit. >> we are going to discuss various challenges of the international community. of course we are going to cover bilateral issues between japan and the united states. trade tensions between the two countries escalated earlier this month to raise auto tariffs calling imported vics a threat to national security so we're watching our talks very closely this morning.

i'll have an update when it comes in. one of san francisco's most popular parks. one man was shot. he is expected to survive. abc 7 news was at the park while police searched for clues. people visiting the park told us the shooting happened around 5:00. >> i heard two gunshots go off. i saw a bunch of people running down the hill. we got our stuff and ran off as well. >> everybody started running towards us. >> police have not made any arrests. another horse has died at santa anita park, that is the third one in nine days. the latest horse to die suffered a leg injury during a race on saturday. the "l.a. times" reports that yesterday the decision was made to euthanize the hse during

surgery. santa anita closed before changing many policies and those included what medications they receive on the days they race. thousands of epa tribute to the fallen at san francisco's annual memorial day ceremony held in the presidio. it starts with a flag raising at 9:45 this morning and then the parade at 10:30 at the presidio officers club. mayor london breed will be at that formal ceremony. volunteers place a flag at every grave over the week. i happened to be there and it was a wonderful sight to see. "the uss hornet" band will perform and a tossing of a wreath into the san francisco bay. today's tribute ceremony starts at 11:00 this morning. public transit operating on a sunday schedule. bart, muni, ac transit, sam and

golden gate transit running on a holiday schedule. schools, post offices, banks, and most government office are closed. however, san francisco parking meters are still being enforced. we have much more still ahead including the teachers still striking in the east bay. union leaders met for negotiations but it appears they are far from reaching a deal. possible merger for fiat chrysler and renault. and at the live desk i'm watching what this means for the auto industry. we'll talk about the advantages for those automakers if it's approved. time is running out for lawmakers to pass many bills. the issues they must tackle by friday. here is a live look outside as folks are, i don't know what they're doing, i don't know why they're out. but they're going somewhere this morning. >> they want to see the sea lions. why not? at 5:35 this morning. let's check in with meteorologist mike nicco. thank you.

hi, everybody. cooler in the higher elevations and the valleys. 50 at berkeley and san leandro. richmond, castro valley, fremont, 52. 55 in oakland for the warm spot. how about other neighborhood. low to mid-50s until you get to albany and santa rosa. also our coolest morning this week and you can see it's even cooler than yesterday morning. there's less clout cover. slightly warmer weather. until then this is the way it looks. pretty sparse whether it's the rain or the commuters. if you're driving, quiet weather again. mass transit, cool to mild this afternoon. ferry ride is breezy. the north bay, low to mid-50s until 9:00.

could see showers with possible thunderstorms later today. let me show you what's going on across the state. you can see some greens and some whites and pinks. a few showers through the central valley and about 70. a mixture of clouds and sunshine, 56 in eureka. mid-60s, they'll be cooler than a lot of us today. they had a mixture of snow yesterday. more scattered showers today. look at the chances of a thunderstorm and temperatures jumping from the 40s to 50s to nearly 70 by sunday. back here at home if you're going to be out and about, tree pollen is high.

the uv index you can burn in about 20 minutes. be careful. a major merger possible in the car industry. we've learned fiat chrysler wants to merge with french carmaker renault. the move could save both companies billions of dollars and then allow them to focus on the electric and self driving in their business. the french government which owns 15% of renault is cautious. gaming addiction is classified as a disease. the world health organization added it under mental health disorder. it defines the disorder as when playing computer or video games takes precedence over everything else in your life, it comes less than a year after the w.h.o. added gaming addiction to its list of potentially harmful tech related behaviors.

striking teachers still haven't reached a deal. >> teachers say they will go back to the ticket line and they expect students to be in school tomorrow. abc 7 news was at the office of education as teachers and district administrators met for a ten-hour bargaining session. teachers are demanding a 10% raise over the next two school years but the distract says they cannot afford that. >> we are struggling to have teachers who can live close by to where they work. >> this is their strike. they called it. they can call it off. we are exceptionally motivated to get our teachers back in the classroom with our kids. >> today marks one week since teachers walked off the job. on friday only 9% of students showed up for class. the assembly and senate face a friday deadline. there's a lot to tackle.
