when someone apparently threatened the group with a gun and apparently the person with the gun owns property next to the public park. >> another hiker also disappeared following that confrontation, but they have now been located. and the search is under way for that missing hiker. we got this photo of the missing hiker literally five minutes ago. >> his name is victor bortona. police are not sure how to spell his name exactly, but they say he is a 59-year-old man who has a heart condition, so they're certainly hoping he will be found soon. we will bring you updates on abc7 news and our app. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm kristen sze. thanks for joining us. turning to the north bay where the memorial day weekend usually means big business along the russian river. >> but instead many are rebuilding following flooding in february. droneview 7 flew over guerneville after the town got swamped. but while the water is gone, the recovery is not finished. >> wayne fedman went back today to see what progress has been made.

thinking about that. >> he says he never forgets. he keeps with him a list of 15 names, friends who did not make it home from vietnam. he says he always remembers. and a couple of veterans that we talked to today got a little teary-eyed as they talked about this. they call it one of the most special if not the most special day of the year; and they say it means so much to see all of these people who come out to remember. in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. a civic leaders in san jose joined veterans in saluting those who have given their lives to protect the freedoms that we enjoy every day. ♪ some came to pay tribute to their relatives who served in conflicts, dating back as long ago as the civil war. vietnam era helicopters flew above today's ceremony at oak hill memorial park. san jose mayor sam liccardo reflected on the sacrifices made by america's fallen warriors.

>> recently i read the words of general george patten to help me understand a bit better. general patton said that it's foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. rather, we should thank god that such men lived. >> abc7 news i-team reporter dan noyes served as the emcee for today's event. dan is the son of a world war ii veteran. generations of veterans also saluted their fallen brothers and sisters on the peninsula. ♪ you're looking at today's tribute at san bruno's golden gate national cemetery. the sprawling cemetery is the final resting place for tens of thousands of vets and their loved ones. it includes the grave of world war ii legend general chester nimitz. in kennebunkport, maine, two empty chairs were left for former president george h.w. bush and his wife barbara. wn mdadeoften attended the former presint was a navy

veteran joining on his 18th birthday. he was one of the youngest aviators in the armed forces flying during world war ii. the former president died last november, just months after his wife barbara. a patriotic tradition goes on in paradise following the deadly camp fire. every year hundreds of flags are put up to mark holidays like memorial day. many of them, however, were destroyed during the wildfire. city leaders have been working to replace them and have received donations to keep the tradition going. and there are new developments with the camp fire. the butte county sheriff's office says it has identified another victim, a 96-year-old woman from paradise. 85 people died in the november wildfire. 75 have been positively identified, and eight tentatively. the camp fire is the deadliest and most destruct wildfire on record in california. in the east bay, striking teachers and the new haven school district are meeting with the mediator to try to determine when the next round of contract talks will take place. the teachers walked off the job

last week, demanding a 10% raise. but new haven officials say the district can only afford a 3% raise. the two sides met until late last night. the union leader told abc7 news the negotiations could stretch into the evening again. a puppy was allegedly stolen from an adoption event at the lafayette pet food express over the weekend, and now the ceo is offering a reward to bring her back. this surveillance video is from last saturday at around 3:00 p.m. you can see the suspect walking around the store with iris, a 4 or 5-month-old female chihuahua mix before exiting. san pablo based shelter jelly's place was running the event. staffers say they were in the middle of an adoption when the suspect snatched the puppy. pet food express is offering a $2500 reward. >> someone that would take a puppy, i can't imagine the right home. so we really want to see iris brought back. >> posted all over social media. she is posted on the news channels.

we just want iris back. >> the suspect is believed to be a woman in her 20s with a tattoo on her right hand and a nose ring. if you know anything about the puppy, please contact jelly's place. three teenagers accused of robbing a gas station, and then leading police on a chase are now in custody. >> and they put a knife in his chest and put a gun on his head, and they told him to give them all his money. >> the robbery happened a the arco gas station in moraga last night about 8:00. the owner, who you just heard, said they took the register and his employee's cell phone. when they took off, the employee called 911 and gave police the description of the suspects. a chase started and ended 30 miles later when the teenagers crashed off highway 4 in antioch. neighbors are just stunned. >> it's very surprising. it's a really safe neighborhood. >> the store owner says this is the second time his gas station has been robbed. abc7 news is committed to building a better bay area. one of the issues we hear about

frequently, and we're really focusing on is homelessness. just a few weeks ago, we learned the number of homeless in several bay area counties went up. we put together a map showing the increases in contra costa, alameda, santa clara, and san francisco counties. the only county reporting a drop is marin county. still waiting for four other bay area counties to post their numbers. in our efforts to build a better bay area, abc7 news reporter luz pena found a nonprofit that is reconnecting the homeless with their loved ones. >> i used to go -- mama leah. brennan, i love you. >> a mother's plea to find brennan, her oldest son. >> when you were a baby, your head was touching my head. >> memories that are vital for the nonprofit miracle messages whose mission is to reunite homeless with their loved ones. >> i had a guy connected to his son, hadn't talked to his son

since he was 5. been 32 years since he talked to his kid. >> for brian and beverly, planning out the route to find the next who wants to find their family is not just a job. this is personal. there are also homeless for 20-plus years. >> that was me. i had been raped. i had been mugged. i had been robbed. people touches you as you walk by. they see. they act like they don't see. >> union square businesses noticed and partnered up with miracle messages last year, addressing homelessness in union square is a complex issue and one that requires many different approaches. our ambassadors direct individuals in need to services. in the last five years, miracle messages say they reunited more than 200 homeless with their loved ones. according to them, the biggest challenges are the many of them feel shame and don't have a phone. >> it gives them something to live for. for other people, it gives them a reason to take a step, go into

>> all right. for the warriors superfan heading to toronto, you might want to bring some of this with you because you're not going to see this much merch in their stores for the first two games on canadian soil. kris reyes, abc7 news. >> see, wasn't that helpful? good information. abc7 news is the only place to catch the golden state warriors in the nba finals. game one is set for this thursday. tip-off is at 6:00 p.m. disneyland's new attraction star wars galaxy's edge is opening to the public this friday. the theme park is expecting massive crowds to show up and experience the new land. for the first three week, guests must have a reservation to enter and will be limited to four hours inside. a special wristband will identify a visitor's time window. and once it expires, access to key attractions and merchandise will close. storm troopers will escort visitors overstaying their welcome to the states so a new group can enter. disney cast members got to check out the park early. >> it's like being on another

be slowing down in some areas, but the fbi says real estate scams are picking up. here is one that can empty your bank account. scammers are getting home buyers to send their down payments to fake accounts. the thieves find out when homes are bought and right when the home buyer is being buried in paperwork, a request for the down payment comes in. if the homeowner falls for it, the money is sent to an offshore account, and there is no way to get that money back. do not follow instructions without first consulting with your real estate professional. all of us just sit there and all the papers coming in, you're trying keep up. >> it's overwhelming. >> slow it down whenever money is involved. >> good advice. >> thank you, michael, very much. you guys, take a look at this. it's the last day of ski season. memorial day up at heavenly. take a look at this cool picture. a san mateo resident george sent to abc7 news. that's his son, 14-year-old zack

we're tracking something we haven't seen in quite some time. no storms in the picture over the next seven days. it is a dry pattern finally evolving. temperatures right now. we are in the 50s and 60s for the most part. and if you take a look at the month of may, it has been a while since we've had a may quite like this. and downtown san francisco so far this month we have come in at an inch and almost 2 inches of rain that is the wettest may we have seen since 1998. more than two decades. overnight tonight, location will be key, depending on your sky cover. in the north bay, clear skies. but more in the way of cloud cover as you head towards the south bay. temperatures overnight dropping into the upper 4 lower 50s. as we take a look at your day tomorrow, we break it down. it's a nice looking day. if you're headed back to work and school. unfortunately we have temperatures into the 70s and in the 80s by the afternoon. so these numbers close to where wed be for this te of the year. so a closer look at our

afternoon highs on your tuesday. 70 the high in oakland tomorrow. 65 in the city. about 74 the high in san jose. 78 in santa rosa. and our warmest spots 70s to lo sunny skies. and that thermometer will just continue to rise, even into wednesday. future tracker temperatures. we're calling it back to reality midweek, because this is where we should be this time of the year. not in the 50s and 60s, but the 70s and in the 80s. thursday that marine layer will return. so it drops us down a few degrees. but look what happens on friday. this is when the summer-like warmth really takes hold. that will lead us into a very warm weekend next weekend. here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. tomorrow that warm-up begins with afternoon sunshine. mild to warm midweek here. thursday we have a few clouds. that's going to knock the degrees off by 1 or 2 for the afternoon. by friday we're rebounding quickly. and then over the weekend saturday and sunday, i think a loft people would have really wanted that forecast this weekend. a little delayed, but nonetheless feeling like summer early next week.
