associated. >> reporter: good evening. kids might say it was all part of a game but the school is taking it seriously. they're now looking at ways to correct the year book. parents we spoke to say this is all part of a larger issue that needs to be addressed. >> parents and community members showed up to the petaluma school district meeting wanting to know how this photo showing students flashing what some say is a symbol of white power ended up in the junior high year book. >> it made me feel pretty sick and i was not surprised. >> reporter: the year book was released last week of the. >> it is the perception of it of it is what it can mean to different people and that's what was brought to our attention. >> reporter: some students are seen making an upside down okay sign. it is used in the circle game. it has taken on a different meeting after white sprem siffs began using it as a symbol of white power. the suspect is seen here

flashing the symbol. >> they need to understand the symbol that they're showing has been taken over by some extreme white power people. >> the district says they are photo shopping and will have a new sticker sprergs can cover the original one. they also plan to address the larger issue. >> this is something that we cannot continue on the pathway. we need to look at something campus wide. >> i can tell you, people of color know what that means. and so if we had more presentation, i think this would have probably been caught early on of the. >> and the district says the student in that photo have been disciplined. another parent we spoke to say her daughter goes to a different school in the same district. that her district also photos making the same symbol.

>> developing news, the sky turned black of the warning was canceled but other places were not so lucky. severe weather struck from the heartland all the way to the new york city area. home after home shredded by the fierce winds of a tornado. we've seen it over and over again. tonight it was kansas taking brunnel of it. one man watch as a twist er ripped apart his house. >> a massive tornado was about an hour west of kansas city. the funnel wrapped in rain making it next to impossible to see. >> this huge tornado is one of two dozen tornadoes that have been reported today of it was spotted touching town in the central part of kansas. the wild weather produced this eerie picture outside of kansas.

it is not just the heartland getting hit. lightning lit up the sky over new york city and there was a tornado warning for staten island. a severe storm damaged a junior high school west of new york city. it's not over yet but more tornadoes are expect tomorrow. >> let's take a look tft severe thunderstorms developed. it is the time of year when you get the clashing air masses. severe weather from kansas city all the way heading toward the midwest. around the chicago area. as we take a look, there is a thunderstorm watch box for parts of missouri. 30 reports of tornadoes in the last 12 hours. some of those were funnel clouds. at least ten. as you take a look here, the severe weather threat will continue from the southern plains all the way to the
