straight days, a new record, and the threat is not over. overnight a community stunned. >> you can feel the air pressure change and you knew it was coming. next thing i know, i could hear it was over us. >> we could hear the house being destroyed above us. >> i said, oh, honey, i said, this is not good. >> reporter: a tornado swept flew the kansas city area injuring at least a dozen people and leaving homes in ruins. >> we saw debris and we screamed it's here, it's here. >> there's cars picked up. thrown. >> hell, yes, i feared for my life. >> reporter: as the massive twister touched down lightning and power surges flashed in the distance. columns of debris flying hundreds of feet into the air, and the kansas city airport was shut down and evacuated. >> i feel lucky i'm alive. >> reporter: in the aftermath house after house shredded. residents sifting through the rubble looking for pets, belongings and anything salvageable. >> this is all i found. >> reporter: butt do tt oved deadly. >> eight or ten feet of it collapsed into the roof and everything. >> reporter: a woman killed by this massive tree tuesday

afternoon. authorities saying the heavily saturated ground caused the tree to fall, not the wind. the erratic weather slamming cities to the east as well. >> all of a sudden it's like rapid-fire machine gun hitting the side of the house. >> reporter: in pennsylvania a tornado tore the siding off houses, shattered windows and tolled trees and this morning, the northeast is bracing for more destruction. these relentless storms are also causing catastrophic flooding. some of the worst along the arkansas river in the tulsa area. the city's mayor is urging residents living behind the 20-mile levee system to evacuate and more rain is expected for the area. we'll have your full forecast in less than five minutes. president trump's ramping up his attacks on former vice president joe biden apparently viewing him as the biggest threat in a very crowded field of democrats vying for the white house. the president brushed aside criticism for taking aim at biden while on foreign soil and then siding with kim jong-un. now biden is firing back. abc's mona kosar abdi has the details from washington. mona, good morning.

to our values, and it is contrary to the best interests of our country. >> reporter: the biden campaign also firing back saying the president's comments were, quote, beneath the dignity of the office and trump siding with a murderous dictator against a fellow american and former vice president speaks for itself. but in a tweet overnight, trump says he was actually, quote, sticking up for biden. this latest back and forth exchange comes as the trump campaign is ratcheting up its efforts in key battleground states like pennsylvania where biden grew up. at a rally there last week president trump told crowd biden was born there but later abandoned the state. in houston last night biden set the record straight. >> we moved from the scranton notwithstanding the president saying i abandoned it to find work. i was in third grade. >> reporter: president trump narrowly won pennsylvania back in 2016 and then two years later democrats flipped three house seats previously held by republicans in the 2018 midterms. maggie, kenneth. >> mona, thank you.

already some nasty back and forth. a college freshman is apologizing for a security breach at mar-a-lago while president trump was in town. mark lindblom told the judge he just wanted to see how far he could get. he went through a metal director and wandered around the grounds for 20 minutes before he was arrested last year during the thanksgiving weekend. land bomb received one year probation after prosecutors agreed he meant no harm. a chinese national is awaiting trial for a similar incident in february. a heartbroken husband speaking out after his wife was killed in a church van crash. the van rolled over after being rear ended by a pickup truck last night outside richmond, virginia. 11 people were in the van, four were killed. one victim's husband says he's depending on his faith to get him through the tragedy. >> in disbelief right now. you know, in disbelief, but i know the lord and she knew the lord, and we know that god

we're back with this freight trait -- train derailment in wellington, ohio. the cars were filled with produce and building materials. authorities say no injuries were reported, and there's no threat to the public. an investigation into the cause of the accident is under way. now to the battle over abortion. planned parenthood filing a lawsuit to keep the only abortion clinic in missouri from shutting down. the state is threatening not to renew its license while investigating potential problems at the facility.

just days ago missouri's governor signed a new law that bans abortion after eight weeks. even in cases of rape or incest. but in the clinic closes, missouri would become the first state without an abortion clinic since 1973. overseas nepal is defending the number of permits issued to climb mt. everest this year. some blame overcrowding for causing a human traffic jam in the so-called death zone. 11 people have died this season including two americans. nepal issued a record number of permits this year, nearly 400 at $11,000 each. the country's tourism board blames the spike in deaths on weather conditions, insufficient oxygen, supplies and equipment. and they have no plans to restrict the number of permits in the future. in the meantime, it appears actress mandy moore got a permit to climb everest. she posted a picture on instagram after successfully

making it to the mountain's base camp. moore did not scale the summit. well, the tsa will now allow parents to carry a cannabis infused drug for kids. new guidelines permit on airlines approved for children 2 years or older who have epilepsy. it contains cbd oil and does not have psycho active effects like thc. it allows for forms of the cbd oil which have little or no thc. in other tsa news, apparently they're making money off forgetful flyers. the agency collected more than $960,000 in change at security checkpoints last year. new york's kennedy airport led the way with more than 72 grand. the money will go into a fund for aviation security programs. for the first time in 40 years, pizza hut is making a change to its pan pizza and the restaurant is revamping both the sauce and the cheese. but it's still going to call it original. the company is also using a new type of pan that makes a

wow, a police chase in georgia ends with a suspect slamming head-on into the cruiser. it rammed the parked cruiser just after running over spike strips. the impact sent the patrol car backwards down a hill. it stopped when it hit a fence. the officer is okay. two people are under arrest. >> quite a video. now to the country's newest single billionaire promising to donate half of her fortune. >> when mackenzie bezos and amazon founder jeff bezos announced their divorce, she became one of the richest women in the world. now mackenzie bezos is joining hundreds of other super wealthy you people who are promising to give much of their fortune to charity. less than two months after finalizing her divorce from the world's richest man, mackenzie bezos is announcing her newly minted billionaire status will not go to waste signing the giving pledge intending to give at least half of her 36 billion away to charity. in a letter released tuesday, bezos writes, i have a disproportionate amount of money to share. no drive has more positive

the widow of a california man killed by a shark in hawaii is speaking out suggesting the attack could have been prevented. gail smiley tells abc news officials knew of the potential danger and they had been monitoring a tiger shark in the area but she said swimmers were not alert. smiley said her husband tom would never have gone in the water if warning signs were posted. officials say a california boy is extremely lucky to be alive after a mountain lion attack at a nature preserve. the 4-year-old was part of a group of kids and adults hiking in carson's crossing near san diego when the animal pounced on him. his father threw rocks and yelled at the big cat to scare it away. now, mountain lion attacks are rare. >> it's extremely rare. the last attacks have been more than 20 years ago in san diego county. most of the time these animals, you won't see them even though they're present in a lot of areas. >> officials have killed the

mountain lion they believe to be responsible, but the nature preserve remains closed until they're sure it was the right one. the "game of thrones" finale apparently was tough on the fans and at least one big star of the show. "the new york post" says the conclusion of the show sent a star into rehab. a friend told the paper the man who played jon snow had a moment of what's next as the show's eight-year run came to an end. "the post" reports that -- that "post" report says he's been at a connecticut facility for a month for stress and alcohol treatment. james holzhauer is now 29 games into his reign. he hit just one daily double during yesterday's episode which meant his total was significantly below his daily average. when the game was over holzhauer won more than $59,000 which makes him now a total of $2.2 million. that's just under the $266,000 bucks of ken jennings'

making news right now at 4:27, more tornadoes tear a path of destruction from kansas city to new jersey. one twister injures at least 12 people and leaves a trail of downed power lines, trees, and damaged homes. in the east bay striking teachers show up at a school board meeting, and the board gets up and leaves. there's still no date set for the reopening of the sales force transit center but there are hints it's coming soon. good morning to you. it is wednesday, may 29th. it i: in the morning. meteorologist lisa argen has your first look at the day ahead. it's going to be quiet and seasonable. we're going to see some nice weather today. in fact, patchy fog to get along the coast. temperatures are mild. we're talking mid-and upper 50s.

some brake lights, slowing to 20 miles an hour and slow and through the altamont pass. teachers still on strike in the east bay from the new haven unified school district. >> this is their seventh day. amy hollyfield is live for us in union city. amy? >> reporter: they changed up their tactic a little bit last night. take a look. teachers on strike took their protests to the school board meeting. lots of chanting. so much so the board got up and left the room. police did show up to make sure things didn't get out of hand, and they did not. everything was peaceful and fine. they do expect negotiations to start up again this afternoon so there is a little bit of hope that possibly there will be some movement in this strike, although the two sides are still very far apart with the teachers
