asking for an almost 7% raise. the district saying it just cannot afford that and offering a 3% raise. so still millions of dollars apart. teachers convinced the district has the money and they say they cannot afford to live here on the salaries they're making now. stay with us as we follow the story, another eventful day expected in this strike. reporting live in union city, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. amy, thank you. it's 4:30 right now. if you're just joining us a quick update on weather and traffic. let's start with lisa argen. good morning to you. we're looking at low clouds and fog along the coast, half moon bay in the 50s. 54 in fremont. by 11:00, quickly they burn back and we're looking at low 70s. a lot of sun from concord. 62 in san mateo. by the afternoon, 3:00, it's going to be pleasant, way out inland the orange is coming into play. those are some 80s for fairfield and antioch and upper 70s concord.

65, san francisco. plenty of sunshine for you and looking at the fog moving back into the san mateo area, a live look outside right now where it looks pretty calm in san francisco. frances, i think you have some problems so early this morning, right? definitely, lisa. we're just hearing about a crash on the upper deck of the bay bridge westbound heading into san francisco just came in. it sounds like it could be a bad accident. the right lane may be blocked. here is a live shot of the bay bridge toll plaza. chp is en route. we'll keep you posted on that. and here is an alternate for you, you may want to consider b.a.r.t. later on, b.a.r.t., cal train, ace report nothing delays. the golden gate bridge, there was road work there. only one lane was open. it looks like they've opened more lanes in the northbound direction. so traffic still flowing pretty well. and there's a look at some slowing westbound 580 tracy to dublin. that's sluggish at 35 minutes.

at the live desk anoth awist just outside of kansas city leaving a trail of destruction in its path. the threat also extended to the northeast. and there has been at least eight tornadoes reported every single day for the past 12 days. that's a new record. here's abc news. >> reporter: overnight a community stunned. >> the air pressure change and the next thing i know i could hear it was over us. >> we could hear the house being destroyed above us. >> i said, honey, this is not good. >> reporter: a tornado injured at least a dozen people leaving homes in ruins. >> i saw debris. >> there's cars that were picked up, thrown. >> hell yes, i feared for my life. >> reporter: as the massive twister touched down, columns of debris flying hundreds of feet

in the air. the airport was shut down and evacuated. >> i feel lucky i'm alive. >> reporter: house after house shredded, residents sifting through the rubble looking for pets, belongings and anything salvageable. but it wasn't the powerful tornado that proved deadly. >> eight or ten feet collapsed in the roof. >> reporter: a woman was killed by this massive tree tuesday afternoon. authorities say the heavily saturated ground caused the tree to fall not the wind. the erratic weather slamming cities to the east as well. >> all of a sudden it's like rapid fire machine gun hitting the side of the house. >> reporter: in pennsylvania a tornado tore the siding off houses, shattered windows and toppled trees. this morning the northeast is bracing for more destruction. in the east bay new laws and more officers will help police stop side shows. recommendations in that report, oakland police reveal that a man

participating in a sideshow died after he was hurt by a car.it ce but the department says it cannot always rely on the aid because of staffing issues. san francisco mayor london breed is supporting police chief bill scott despite calls for him to resign. scott has been under pressure since he apologized for a raid on the home and office of freelance journalist brian carmody. investigators have been trying to identify the person who leaked a report on jeff adachy. "the examiner" has been told the mayor has not asked the chief to resign and is not asking for his resignation. testimony continues in the ghost shipl. a man who signed the lease with derick almena yesterday. she says her son called her

several times in tears. he wanted to leave the artist collective but he talked him into stayg. almena laughed when she asked him to get the building up to code. they are charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter in the december 2016 fire. on the peninsula sheriff's deputies need your help to catch a man who exposed himself at a school, happened yesterday morning at taylor middle school in millbrae. two girls said they saw a man with his pants down touching himself in the school's parking lot. he appeared to be in his 20s and was standing next to a gray or white honda sedan. deputies searched the area but did not find him. new evidence sales force transit center could be close to reopening. "the chronicle" reports the center is bringing in workers to make sure the building's elevators and escalators are working. the center has been closed for eight months since cracked beams were found insidit could reopen

issued. this is going to cause major delays. right now the drive is still good across the bay bridge. it's saying eight minutes but i think this will increase quickly. the san mateo bridge may be an alterna alternate. also consider mass transit. b.a.r.t. will be a great option depending on how long this accident is out there. other trains, caltrain and ace reporting no delays. here is a look at the san mateo bridge. things could get crowded here a little bit as well but, again, we'll

good morning to you. i'm lisa argen in for mike nicco. if you're headed anywhere across the state, we are looking at still some showers in the sierra nevada, 62 in monterey. mostly sunny down in los angeles at 74 degrees. we'll have plenty of sun here after the low clouds and fog pull away from the coast, but there is a system dropping to the north tomorrow, and that's going to bubble up more showers, thunderstorms for the sierra nevada and cloud cover that will move into the extreme northern part. that's tomorrow. today plenty of sunshine and slightly warmer. jessica? thanks, lisa. this morning we're learning an east bay landmark has been saved. it was announced overnight it has raised $2 million to buy the painted rock. for decades it's been used by students in moraga to express

their views. the property was slated for development after the owner died in 2014. unless the land trust raised the money to save it, the painted rockland will now be merged with an existing 421 acres of open space and will be called painted rock park. building a better bay area is a shared responsibility. on the peninsula a group of high school students is rising to the occasion. >> they pitched housing solutions to facebook and the tech giant was listening. reporter amanda del castillo has our story. >> reporter: low-income families in menlo park will soon get much-needed housing help thanks to a group of high school students. the affordable housing problem is one very personal to mia. >> there was a time my family was homeless and i just grateful to have that. >> reporter: as part of a facebook-backed study the group with uc berkeley-based company

mpietopp for permits lyft claims it violates its agreement but the city says it only applies to bike shares with docks. the warriors are getting ready for tomorrow's game one of the nba finals against the raptors. >> the players left oakland international airport yesterday afternoon. fans were happy to see kevin durant travel with the team. he won't play in game one but could play later on. demarcus cousins is still listed as questionable. >> the warriors are giving fans a chance to take pictures with the trophies. some couples took a break from their wedding photos to pose with them actually. the trophies will be on display at oakland city hall from 10:00 this morning to 2:00 in the afternoon. >> why not? that's a cool wedding photo. the only place to watch the warriors and the nba finals. you can catch game one tomorrow.

you look towards the incline section. it's apparently an overturn truck versus a bus and the driver of the truck is trapped inside. emergency crews have arrived at the scene and so now the three right lanes are blocked. only two left lanes open and a sig alert issued. they're saying there's no estimated time of reopening the lanes. it's going to be a huge mess for anybody heading to the bay bridge. the backup has grown just like that, back up into the maze early on so you want to consider alternatives this morning like b.a.r.t. or possibly even heading over to the san mateo bridge which is looking good right now. everything is green in the area. right now traffic is backing up and later on depending on how long it is out there it will go through the maze and westbound 80 and westbound 580. also an update on a crash in the south bay northbound 280 to 880. the connector ramp is temporarily blocked to clear an accident. so far traffic is still pretty

good wednesday morning to you, just a little bit warmer today in concord. how does that sound with 82 degrees? and tomorrow a little bit cooler. then we're on a trend of temperatures more seasonal with low to mid-80s, a slight dip on sunday. and then by next week we'll be talking above average, near 90. natasha? lisa, thank you. you will soon have a chance to let the state know what you th of pg&e's plan to raise your rates. pg&e wants to raise nearly $2 billion over the next three years to pay for wildfire safety improvements. the 22 increase would raise gas and electric bills. the california public utilities commission has scheduled meetings for the public to weigh in. that first meeting is july 9th in san francisco. the cpuc will hold meetings in oakland, san jose and santa

good mrning to you, jessica. we're starting out with low fog and clouds on the peninsula. they're going to stay there for a while because the winds in the north, the upper elevations are keeping the fog out of the north bay. it's cloudier on the peninsula and the south bay. by the afternoon, 1:00, we are sunny. notice the sierra nevada, there is another system that will drop to the north tomorrow. it will continue to bring some showers. here is overnight into the sierra nevada. look how close it gets. you'll notice that in santa rosa, maybe some extra cloud cover but all in all we're looking at a slightly cooler day due to that system that is arriving tomorrow. highs today in the 60s near the coast. 70s around the bay. hi, frances. hi, lisa. good morning. we have a major problem on the bay bridge this overturned crash with serious injuries will be out there for a while. a live shot in the area on you are looking at three lanes blocked with an overturned

truck. a bus was involved as well. serious injuries, a sig alert issued. we don't know how long this will be out there. a cal transcamera. you can see the whole incline is jamm lt open and that means big delays, of course, at the bay bridge toll plaza. this accident happened around 4:30 this morning. it's going to be a mess, folks. really consider alternates. right now the drive time they're saying is 23 minutes across the bay bridge. we will start to see delays on westbound 80 and all through the maze heading to the area. also, just keep you updated on a crash in san jose, the northbound 280 connect ramp to northbound 880 still blocked because of a crash. >> frances, thank you. i know we have a reporter headed to the scene as well. 4:56. airline passengers can travel with most medication containing cbd. the tsa updated its policy. travelers are allowed to have cbd products including fda approved medications in both carry-on and checked luggage
