creating frustration. tenants often lose access to their parking spots during adu construction. last august mayor london breed issued an executive director accelerating the creation of adus. l landlords can do these renovations the same time they're doing seismic upgrades. the san francisco planning department says nearly 800 adus currently have permits. some wonder if the permits have been fast tracked at the expense of those that already live here. >> we've come up with this term called rent evictions. >> taking away a part of your lease interest, like your parking spot or your laundry room is considered to be an eviction. even though you might still be living in your one bedroom, that is under chapter 37 an eviction.

>> if temporary tenants are entitled to a rent reduction, some landlords are paying tenants for their parking spaces. landlords must notify tenants prior to construction if that construction takes away their laundry room or parking spaces, even temporarily. a group of tenants recently took their case to the san francisco board of appeals. >> i've done everything by the book for this project. i tried to do right by the tenants. >> a teacher who's lived since 2003 questions her landlord's motives. >> i think he has very little interest in serving the housing crisis. i think he has a lot of interest in having five more you fiunitsg more rent than the rest of us in
