but along with innovation, there are growing pains. hydrogen fuelin stations across the bay area like this one are down today. service disrupted following a chemical plant explosion this weekend at air products and chemicals incorporated in santa clara county. dr. shane stevens is a founding partner of true zero, which owns seven of the bay area's hydrogen retail fueling stations. >> we do anticipate som and teething pains during the early years. when you have every station in the bay area down, that's a major hiccup. >> that's one that krista hansen hadn't anticipated, whichsy a pain. what can i say? but if more people were using these, it would be more available. and any sort of problem would be less of an issue. >> hansen says she traded in her prius a year and a half ago and loves her hydrogen-fueled vehicle. >> clearly we could have a problem with filling it up, i guess. but this is the first time i've encountered that.

alameda appears to be unhealthy. this isn't the first lost humpback in that area, but humphrey in 1985 and delta and dawn in 2007 were healthy humpbacks, not like this one in alameda. the whale in alameda is hanging around seaplane lagoon, not far from the old navy base. that's where abc7 news reporter laura anthony is live with the story tonight. laura? >> well, hi, dan. if you'd come to me a few seconds earlier, the whale came up just behind me. we've seen this whale all afternoon, circling in this area here in what's known as seaplane lagoon. it occasionally comes to the surface. what we haven't seen is any of the breaching that's been occurring over the last several days. it apparently came here to feed, but scientists aren't certain why it came this far in and whether it's really getting enough to eat. it's not necessarily lost, but apparently in distress.
5:08 pm
that's the word from the experts, the marine mammal center on the rare sighting of a humpback whale in the san francisco bay. is it in trouble? >> well, it's lost a lot of weight. we can tell that. so there is some problem with it that we're just not sure what it is at this point. that's why we're monitoring it on a daily basis. so -- but it still has a lot of energy. >> despite its weight loss, as the still photos show, it's been quite active, breaching often. this is the time of year that humpbacks begin migrating from mexico to the northern california coast for feeding. that's a different pattern from the gray whale, who typically pass by san francisco bay on their way to alaska. so far this year, about 70 gray whales have washed up on the west coast, including several here in the bay area. some have been malnourished, injured by ship strikes, or both. >> the gray whales are just at the tail end of their migration, and now the humpback whales are moving into the our area to feed

back in 2007, to get the whales out of the delta, they actually used humpback whale sounds to lure the animals back out to sea. they could also use a flotilla of boats to gently encourage them to leave. in this case, though, they don't want to do anything like, that at least not yet, because this whale is already in distress, and they don't want to make anything worse. live in alameda, laura anthony, abc7 news. >> fingers crossed, laura, thank you. >> absolutely. tough talk from california's attorney general. he's taking on a top pharmaceutical company saying it started the fire and then poured gasoline on the opioid crisis. it's the end of an era for apple. the company officially kills off itunes. so what happens now? a bay area man pays a record amount to have lunch with warren buffett, and the likely topic of conversation is something buffet has called rat poison squared. i'm meteorologist sandhya patel. get ready for a taste of summer. everyone's got to listen to mom.

the itunes store unveiled back-to-back by steve jobs in the early 2000s cemented his place in music history. there may have been a dozen different ways to download music before that, but it was itunes that made everything simple, legal, and mainstream, ushering a new digital era. >> especially as an elder millennial, i think that's what i'm called now, it does feel a little heartbreaking, but i think we're ready to move on to something bigger and better. >> announced at the company's annual developer conference that bigger and bher means itunes will be broken up into three new apps. apple music, apple podcast, and apple tv. bottom line, a move away from any kind of ownership of digital media. >> for you, you don't even care about owning? >> today it doesn't make too much sense. also, cds, just do streaming, movies. >> we live in a world where consumers are used to having dedicated apps for what they need to do. and i think itunes was trying to be too many things in one pact
5:15 pm
that felt a little bit old, a little bit dated. >> all right. so three things you need to know. if you are hanging on to those itunes gift cards, the itunes store will remain open. you can also still access your itunes library through the apple music app. and if you're a windows user, itunes will work exactly the same. my take, itunes isn't death dead, but its glory days are definitely over. kris reyes for abc7 news. >> thank you. german ship maker infineon has agreed to buy rival chip maker cypress semiconductor for $10 billion. even though the semiconductor industry has seen some tough times lately. cypress has a footprint in key growth areas like autonomous vehicles. a san francisco cryptocurrency leader has paid dearly to have lunch with warren buffett. justin sun is the founder of tron. he paid $4.5 million in a charity auction. he will get to take seven friends.
5:16 pm
sun boasted about the win on his website. he says he can't wait to talk to buffet about bitcoin and blockchain. buffett once charactered it as probably rat poison squared. he sees the lunch as an opportunity to seek a shared understanding on the topic. the charity lunch benefits san francisco's glide memorial church. you may have noticed gas prices dropping a little bit. that's not something we usually see during the start of the summer driving season. it usually goes up. the average price of a gallon of regular gas in california is $3.94. that's down 7 cents week over week. it's a little higher in the bay area. it always seems to be. crude oil prices dropped last month, and that makes up the largest portion of the price of gas. more issues at boeing making travel a little more difficult for passengers. >> 7 on your side's michael finney is here with that story and more tonight. >> that's the 737 that we're talking about today. boeing is telling some airlines flying those to replace a part on the wings. a move that could take more than
