harold. >> how are you? >> it's an honor. >> reporter: harold himmelsback, raised in yakima, washington, he is 93, about to turn 94. you're almost ready to make this trip back. how significant is this? >> very. it was the most dramatic time in my life. and i remember best things few people would ever see, and i saw it all. >> reporter: harold remembers everything. the morning of june 6th, 1944. >> i was saved, other guys died within feet of me. >> reporter: they had all been training for d-day. did you know what you were training for? >> yes, everybody knew what we were doing. we were going to go defeat the germans. >> so you all knew what you were going to do. >> oh, yes. >> you just didn't know when. >> that's right, that's right. >> reporter: they woke up harold and his brothers on that ship at 3:00 a.m. told them to eat and get their gear. >> and all of a sudden i'm out

there are disturbing new details in the disappearance of a connecticut mother of five. warrants show that police believe jennifer dulos was assaulted at her estranged husband's home. items soaked in her blood were found in local trash cans. fotis dulos and his girlfriend face evidence-related charges. he's being held on a $500,000 bond. she paid hers and was released. we're learning more about the suspect in the virginia beach shooting. the national guard veteran had submitted a letter of resignation just hours before the rampage. police say the silencer and weapons used during the shooting were purchased legally. abc's whit johnson is there. >> reporter: investigators searching for a motive behind the virginia beach mass shooting. just hours before the massacre, dewayne craddock giving his two weeks' notice, saying in this newly released email, it has been a pleasure to serve the city but due to personal reasons i must relieve my position.

the email only adding to the deepening mystery of what triggered the horror. >> shots fired, shots fired, second floor! >> reporter: the gunfire erupting at 4:08 p.m. friday. the shooter armed with two handguns, extended magazines, a silencer. four officers on scene within two minutes. >> still actively hearing gunshots. >> reporter: the officers engaged the shooter and take him down. the entire ordeal lasting 36 terrifying minutes. >> rounds were coming through doors, were coming through the wall. >> reporter: 12 innocent people killed, including keith cox, who colleagues say gave his life to save others. >> he said, ladies, get in the office, we're going to barricade ourselves in. he said, i got to check on everybody else, barricade the door. >> reporter: local police tell us they are still working with federal officials to get more information about how the gunman obtained that silencer, which requires extensive paperwork and law enforcement approval. whit johnson, abc news, virginia beach. a former university of southern california soccer coach

is the latest to plead guilty in the college admissions scandal. ali khosroshahin coaches the women's team for seven seasons and led them to the 2007 national championship. he's accepted a racketeering conspiracy charge and will cooperate with the government. he took bribes to allow for nonplayers on the team. now to data breach affecting one of the biggest blood testing labs in the country, quest diagnostics confirms that the personal information of nearly 12 million patients may have been exposed. quest says one of its third-party billing collection vendors was targeted and hackers had access to the company's system for more than seven months, potentially compromising credit card numbers, bank accounts, medical information, and other private data. and new dna evidence could prove -- >> finally. >> -- that the loch ness monster, janai, is real. >> not that we had any doubts. researchers have examined genetic material found in the scottish lake. they say if nessie is real, it would have left some dna on loch

suddenly and unexpectedly one day before they were scheduled to return home. their family back in the u.s. now coping with the tragic loss. >> they loved traveling. >> reporter: their sister-in-law told abc news about a devastating call. >> they knew something was going on in their body and was able to get to the hospital. >> reporter: the couple became sick sometime between may 22nd and 25th. the family says early indications point to some type of virus, strong enough to debilitate two young, healthy people. >> anything can happen. and -- oh, sorry. >> reporter: michelle apparently died first. and although there were plans to transport david to australia for further treatment, he died before that happened. a u.s. state department official confirmed the deaths to the family. the cause still under investigation. officials say the couple's remains cannot be returned to the u.s. until the investigation is complete. they leave behind two young children in the care of their families and their dog zoe. >> we know that michelle and david are with us and zoe. >> reporter: the u.s. embassy in fiji did not comment to abc news on the pauls' deaths specifically but said the

government had been warning of a dangerous flu season that is just hitting the region. janai, will? >> romina, thank you. the actor kevin spacey made a surprise appearance at the pretrial hearing in his sexual assault case. >> his attorneys want access to the cell phone of the man accusing the actor of sexual assault. they're alleging the mother of then 18-year-old bus boy deleted text messages. prosecutors deny any misconduct. a ruling is expected this week. it was also revealed there's no surveillance footage from the bar in nantucket where the incident allegedly occurred in 2016. coming up next half hour, we're hearing from a man just hours after he survived a lightning strike. but first the electrifying night at buckingham palace as president trump makes history across the pond. we're putting our own knowledge of royal protocol to the test.
