about friday's shooting massacre in virginia beach. police the so-called silencer and the guns used by the shooter were bought legally. they say it's unclear if the silencer had any impact on the death toll. 12 people were killed. the suspect e-mailed a letter of resignation before the rampage. he said, it was a pleasure to serve the city and said he was leaving due to, quote, personal reasons, but he did not elaborate. he died in a shootout with police. stocks in major tech companies like facebook and google are down this morning after word that lawmakers in washington are launching a sweeping and historic antitrust investigation. the big question, are these big tech companies too big? what can be done, and how will it affect all of us who use their products? abc's serena marshall is taking a closer look this morning in washington. serena, good morning. >> reporter: janai, good morning. it is a rare moment of bipartisanship on capitol hill with democrats and republicans backing the probe as the trump administration launches an washington.on of their own.big

umpire and have a team in the game. >> reporter: but not everyone backs the move. >> but i don't think that a president should be running around pointing at companies and saying breaking them up without any kind of possess here. >> reporter: the house investigation as "the wall street journal" reports the justice department and the ftc is gearing up for an antitrust investigation of their own, examining google's internal practices and search rankings. antitrust investigations can take years to settle. the government's case against microsoft lasting roughly a decade while the 1970s case against at&t spanned eight years so this will likely go well beyond 2020. ken -- janai, will. >> serena, thank you. bloody clothes are among the evidence police say they found in the search for a missing mother of five from connecticut. detectives believe jennifer dulos was the victim of a serious assault. they also say they have surveillance video of a man they suspect is her estranged husband leaving with garbage bags with

blood-stained items inside them leaving them at dozens of places the night she vanished. he and his girlfriend are charged with evidence tampering and hindering the prosecution. notorious mexican drug lord el chapo will not be getting any of the perks he requested while behind bars being held in new york awaiting sentencing and requested bottle water and earplugs and wanted permission to exercise outdoors for the fresh air and sunlight. the judge denied the request saying el chapo has access to fresh air through a window. >> time now for a look at your weather for this tuesday morning. historic flooding in arkansas is costing the state's economy $20 million a day, and they're bracing for even more rain. vice president pence will tour the damage in neighboring oklahoma today. the flooded missouri river forced the closure of these highways in iowa. more levee failures are possible and farmers are struggling. the planting of corn is at the

that's a wrench that man threw at the next car shattering a window. he was also swerving in and out of traffic cutting off other drivers. it is unclear what exactly set him off. a powerful virus is suspected of killing a young husband and wife from texas on their dream vacation in fiji. michelle and david paul died within days of each other in the south pacific. their bodies can't be returned to the u.s. until a cause of death is determined. michelle paul's father says the last message from his daughter still haunts him. >> the last text i got from my daughter was her hands was numb. i didn't have a chance to talk to her. the only thing that is keeping us here feeling not too emotionally is believing that they're all in better shape, and we keep praying every day. >> reporter: the pauls leave behind two children. fiji's government has warned about a dangerous flu season there but the cdc has not issued

any warnings. now to a data breach affecting one of the biggest blood testing labs in the country. quest diagnostics confirms the personal information of nearly 12 million patients may have been exposed. quest says one of its bill collection vendors was targeted. hackers had access to that company's system for more than seven months. potentially compromising credit card numbers, bank accounts, and medical information. the chipotle restaurant chain says the proposed tariffs on mexican goods could force it to raise prices. president trump is threatening to impose a 5% penalty starting in a week. the tariffs would increase if mexico fails to do more to stop migrants from flowing into the u.s. chipotle imports avocados and other produce from mexico. pancakes are usually for breakfast, but here's a new idea from ihop. it's adding a pancake to its burgers placing a traditional pancake between the meat patties. the marketing stunt follows the company's announcement
