>> warriors minority owner mark stevens pushing raptors guard kile lowry during last night's game. lisa amin gulezian is live with the story. lisa? >> dan, he issued this state late today saying he is sorry and there is no excuse for his actions. as raptors guard kile lowry dives for a loose ball, you can see the man seated and now identified as mark stevens shove him. he also yells expletives at the ballplayer. now the nba is stepping in with its punishment, a one-year ban from the nba and the remainder of the finals. plus, a $500,000 fine. i spoke with the nba commissioner, adam silver. >> i did not think a lifetime ban was appropriate here i thought a one-year ban was in keeping with what we saw happen on the floor together. >> kile lowry spoke at a media availability. >> a guy like that showing his

true class. he shouldn't be a part of our league. there is just no place for that. >> that guy is billionaire and venture capitalist at s-cubed. he released this statement. i made a mistake and i'm truly sorry. i need to be better and look forward to making it right. i fully accept the punishment administered by the nba and the warriors. the shove was also the talk today among players, fans, and even the warriors head coach. >> i will also personally apologize to kyle and to the raptors. that's unacceptable. >> i just credit kyle the way he handled it, because it could have been a lot worse in terms of an altercation that should not have happened in the beginning. >> the behavior is unacceptable. i'm glad steps were taken. i'm glad it wasn't ignored. >> i think that's a little bit excessive. >> and stevens' ban begins immediately. lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. and lebron james took to

social media today, calling for swicht action. he posted a video of the incident and posted a lengthy caption asking what would happen if lowry had been the one who did this. >> could the players force mark stevens to give up his minority stake following that shove? >> we went to larry beil for his take. >> i think when you have lebron james, other players and coaches chiming in on this, there is going to be pressure on the nba and the warriors to force stevens to sell his share of the team. owners have to follow the same code of cub as the players and other staff members. they are subject to discipline. remember a few years ago the nba forced donald sterling to sell the clippers because of racist comments he made. this is obviously a much different situation, but the precedent is clear. imagine if it was a player who shoved a team owner or a fan. the outcry for a ban would be very loud. mark stevens is actually pretty lucky in one sense because if kile lowry lost his composure and threw a punch, we might have

seen a full-scale brawl in the stands at oracle. one other thing to note here, there is a moment amongst players to eliminate the word "owner" when it comes to nba teams. some do not like the connotation of players being owned. two teams have changed the terms that they use, and the warriors, for the record, call mark stevens an investor. players like lebron and kevin durant, they have never been more powerful in the nba than they are right now. and i would expect some members of the players association to openly push for stevens to sell his stake in the team. and for the warriors' sake, they might say we do not need this kind of publicity going into a new arena with a chase center, and it would be best if you just move aside. we'll see how it plays out. >> thank you, larry. abc7 is the only place to watch the warriors in the nba finals. game four is to tomorrow in oakland. >> followed by the dubs on 7 pregame at 5:00. nba countdown at 5:30 and game

i'm kate larsen live here at fire station 27 in vallejo, where firefighters tell me if there is anything good to come out of the horrific fires we've seen in california the past two seasons, it's that firefighters throughout the state are working better together than ever before to prevent the inevitable fires from becoming major zsters. disasters. a fire in contra costa county tore through 20 acres of brush along highway ufo near willow pass road. >> buzz of these winds, the rate of spread is fairly rapid uphill. it's a good indicator of what's yet to come. >> firefighters worked hard to contain the flames. this was one of several fires that burned in the bay area on thursday, and one of many more to come as fire season begins. >> here in vallejo, we're expecting hotter and dryer weather. we have waited wind gust, which that's all it really takes, to take that fire we could get out in a matter of a quarter acre and drive to it multiple acres

and begin to threaten structures. >> this weekend kennedy brown says vallejo fire will have extra staffing and equipment for the first fire weather watch and possible red flag warning of the year. he says everyone should think about fire safety zones near their homes. >> big fire is coming and they're unable to completely flee and escape the area, areas that cannot burn, concrete, riverbeds, rock quarries, that's the best place to seek refuge. >> from green grass to brown hill, brown took these photos one month apart in april and may. two weeks later, the grass which grew so tall from all of this year's rain is even more ready to burn. all right. so the fire weather watch starts at 11:00 p.m. on friday and goes to sunday at 1:00 p.m. of course, it's important that we're careful all year round. so if you go to our website, abc7 news, i posted a few ways that you and your family can be fire save. in vallejo, i'm kate larsen, abc7 news.

new details tonight on the state's largest wildfire. cal fire says last july's ranch fire began when a rancher disturbed a yellowjacket's nest. he tried to plug a small hole leading to the nest with a hammer and metal stake that caused sparks to fire and the fire took off. it burned more than 410,000 acres and destroyed 280 structures. one firefighter was killed and three others were injured. no charges have been filed. and look at this surveillance video released by oakland police. you can see this vehicle driving in the area of 41st and carrington streets on the may of 22nd last year. police say three men broke into a home and shot and killed juan lu in front of his regulate wife before driving off in this vehicle. a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest. of these suspects. a san mateo police officer is in jail because of what he is accused of doing online. san jose police arrested 40-year-old robert edward davies today. police say they started investigating him when they got

a call from a tipster who was posing as a 16-year-old chatting with davies on social media apps. the tipster says davies talked about engaging in sexual activity. davies has been placed on paid leave. a santa clara sheriff's deputy was bitten by a rattlesnake while looking for illegal marijuana grows on mt. hamilton. the deputy was bitten on the leg this afternoon and was airlifted to the hospital. he is in stable condition. officials say rattlesnakes are out more frequently during hot days, and to watch where you're stepping if you're on a hike. it's been a rough evening commute for bart riders. service in the transbay tube was suspended because of a gas leak near the west oakland station. a company hit a natural gas line before 2:15. the leak was capped and service was restored around an hour later, but delays remained throughout the evening. the new haven unified teacher strike has captured the

in the north bay, a hiker who got lost in the arm strong red woods in sonoma county this afternoon was rescued with the help of a sheriff's helicopter. the sonoma county sheriff's office released this video you're watching taken from a deputy's helmet camera. great vantage point. it took just 15 minutes for the hiker to be located. deputies hooked her to a rescue rope and flew her to awaiting park rangers. she was not hurt. the youngest app developer is a 10-year-old boy from menlo park. ayush kumar says he started coding at 4 years old. now he is making a name for himself in the tech industry. amanda del castillo chatted with him.
