test test a dog brought train service to a halt in san francisco. the terrier puppy was discovered on the tracks at a light rail station yesterday. it was first seen running in a tunnel. a station agent eventually went onto the tracks and brought that dog to safety. officials contacted the owner thanks to a microchip in the puppy's skin. good thing he's okay this morning.

former florida deputy scot peterson is out of jail this morning. >> peterson was released yesterday after a judge lowered his bail and lifted some restrictions. he's facing 11 charges for failing to confront the gunman in the parkland, florida high school massacre. peterson was allowed to return to his home in north carolina. while out on bail he's not allowed to possess a firearm or take any job involving children. singer r. kelly was back in court facing new sexual assault charges. >> and with these new charges, if convicted, kelly could be facing more than a century behind bars. r. kelly in court again where he pleaded not guilty to revenue charges. >> mr. kelly, i want you to understand, you have four cases in front of me. >> reporter: they include four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault. each carrying a maximum prison term of 30 years. >> i need to arraign you on that new indictment on that case only, you understand? >> yes. >> r. kelly what do you want to say to your fans?

there are quite a few men who have no idea what women are saying about them or to them. >> it's a growing crisis called catfishing and it affects both men and women who discover that scammers have stolen their identities to use a dating app. it's all to scam others who are out there looking for love. here is kyra phillips. >> reporter: a retired colonel from the u.s. army -- >> i'm lieutenant colonel bryan denny. >> reporter: bryan found himself immersed in the shady world of online romance fraud when he discovered his photos had been stolen and used to lure women from all over the globe into thinking they were in a relationship with him. when did you first become aware that your identity had been stolen? >> i got a note on linkedin saying i've been talking with someone who says they're you. she said she met me through social media and this guy had been -- she had sent him money

for airline tickets. >> did he come and visit? >> he did not. >> reporter: it didn't take long for bryan to realize this was more than just a one-off. >> there's been over 3,000 false accounts just on facebook alone. >> more than 3,000? >> that's correct. >> reporter: internet crime is a big business. but unlike many criminal enterprises online, the world of romance scamming doesn't exist on the fringes of the dark web. >> get your military injury pics, photos, any format, at low cost. >> reporter: facebook groups like these ones trafficking stolen information out in the open. >> free fake profiles so you look legit and european. >> reporter: on community forums which actually teach people how to create fake profiles. >> instagram account for sale, 950-plus followers. >> reporter: and lure clients, even facilitate money laundering. amy hess works at the criminal cyber response branch at fbi. she says as social media has become more popular, these cases, called confidence frauds,

have become much more prevalent. >> it's in the billions of dollars. each one of those is a person. each one of those is a victim. those are people's life savings. >> reporter: despite bryan's best efforts, a quick search on instagram or facebook still turns up dozens of active profiles using his name and his image. bryan has taken his cause up with facebook, where he has found the highest concentration of false profiles with the help of kathy waters. the duo met when kathy reached out after her friend was scammed by someone using bryan's photos. together they started a group advocating against romance scams, submitting a lengthy report to facebook about what they say are major platform flaws. they also lobbied to congress. in a statement to abc news facebook said, impersonation violates our policies and has no place on facebook. we've developed technology to specifically combat

impersonation and will continue to make improvements. we are thankful to bryan and kathy for working on this issue with us. as a result of our investigation, facebook removed those groups we flagged to them, telling us they were in violation of the platform's community standards. for bryan, any action or legislation is too little, too late. he just hopes to serve as a cautionary tale to others lured into a false sense of security on social media. his fight is far from over. >> if there's a woman watching this interview right now and she thinks she's communicating with you, colonel bryan denny? >> she is not. she is not. it's not me. right? it's fake. it's all made up. it's all a lie. >> reporter: i'm kyra phillips in williamsburg, virginia. >> of course we've heard of catfishing before. there's a whole show about it. had no idea that it was such big business. just be careful out there. >> no idea.

>> special day indeed. from the d-day anniversary to a deadly accident involving some of the military's next generation of leaders. >> the u.s. military academy at west point is mourning the loss of a member of its upcoming senior class. the cadet was killed when a large transport vehicle overturned in rough terrain on the way to a training exercise. maggie rulli has the details. >> reporter: a military investigation's now under way after a routine training session for west point cadets turned deadly. >> today was a tragic day for the west point community in our united states army. >> reporter: a five-ton cargo truck, similar to this one, was transferring members of the west point class of 2020 along route 293 near the camp natural bridge training site when it overturned. >> they were headed to land navigation training when they were in the back of the truck. they were being transferred to the training site and that's when the vehicle had the accident. >> reporter: in that truck, 19 cadets, all seniors. one killed in the accident.

while i was on a combat patrol my c in baqubah, iraq,nned out. a rocket-propelled grenade took my arm off at the shoulder. when i came home, i felt alone. my family was around me, but i couldn't talk to them about what i'd seen and what i'd done. i remember just thinking, man, the way i am right now, i don't want to live. i was discharged from the army, and i've been working with the wounded warrior project since 2007. warriors don't have to be severely wounded to be with the wounded warrior project. we do have a lot of guys that have post-traumatic stress disorder. being able to share your story, i guess it kind of helps you wrap your mind around what did happen over there. just because you've left the military doesn't mean your life is over, because when these guys are coming home, i'm kind of leading and training them, instead of for combat, i'm leading and training them to heal. and if i come away with anything from the wounded warrior project, it's them giving my life back. my name is norbie, and yes, i do suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, but i'm okay.
