news to build a better bay area.moings. it's saturday, june 8th. good morning. thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the first look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen. she has more on this weekend's weather and where there is a red flag warning. >> hi. we'll have gusty wind, low relative humidity and no fog this morning. you'll notice we are clear. our red flag warning goes into effect until 5:00 p.m. and we're looking at above a thousand feet northeasterly winds 15 to 25 miles an hour at times, especially tonight gusting to 60 miles an hour, relative humidity anywhere from 12 to 22%. if any fires are ignited they

could spread rapidly. around the delta we are looking at also the red flag warning and mount tam. also heat concerns as sunday heat illnesses are possible, temperatures from 95 to 105. san francisco can reach into the 90s so they are near record temperatures. we are looking at 58 in san francisco and 61 in novato and 64 in napa, 48, though, on the coast ask right now looking at that 24-hour temperature change, 16 to 21 degrees warmer already seeing effects of those offshore winds gusting to near 30 miles an hour on the north bay mountains and we'll talk in detail about the temperature in your neighborhood and when the heat eases coming up. chris? >> thank you. >> high fire danger across the north bay is prompting those red flag warnings this weekend. the grass fires are a very bad sign. the danger is so high that pg&e

will proactively start turning off power this morning. parts of napa and lake berryessa will go dark and yolo county, parts davis and winters. >> evacuations have been lifted tat burned near the kordellia jurngz near friday, but as residents begin returning to their homes, it is the fire season. >> this is the first red fire season in sonoma county. >> the sound of construction, following the 2017 fires has become the new normal. >> it serves as a reminder for residents of what's to come this season. >> the santaa rosa fire department says they're not staffing up yet, but are taking other precautions. we moved our engine to pre-position it. >> counties are bracing for heightened fire danger. pg&e is too. starting 6:00 a.m. siaturday thy

will shut off power to napa, solano and yolo counties. >> we are taking safety precautions by shutting off the power and to help reduce the wildfire threats. >> for some, the planned outages add new concerns. claire winecoff says it would be one more hit after the financial hit she took following the fires two years ago. >> i live here and on the one hand you understand the caution and from a business point of view it's very scary and nerve-racking because if we don't have power none of the equipment work and we cannot really do any business. we should mention that calistoga is not part of the area of napa county that will see its power turned off today and pg&e is considering turning off power including butte county, specifically paradise which we know is still recovering from

way back to january 1, 2019, something teachers say was necessary to support their families. >> it's getting harder and harder to make a living in the bay area as a teacher and that's really what this fight was about, was forcing the district to recognize that they have to make us a priority. >> new haven unified school district teachers will also receive a 2.5% bus for the 2018 and 2019 school year. what's your message to the school district after these 14 days. >> my message has been the same thing that we should be recognized and heard. >> the unified school district has a message for them and both teams were at the bargaining table to reach an agreement and we are thrilled that our teachers will be back with the students where they, the community and the district wants them to be. this is not effective yet. >> we have a ratification vote that will happen on sunday,

pending ratification teachers can be back in the classroom on monday. >> do you think it's going to happen? >> i think so, yes. >> retirees affected by the days of strike can earn those days back if they work over the summer. >> paren concerned about the seniors who are waiting for their grades and transcripts to move on to college. i spoke to the teachers and they're ready to help them on monday if this gets ratified. luz pena, abc 7 news. the warriors are facing an uphill climb after dropping game four of the nba finals to the raptors last night. thompson and bolt returned last night from their injuries and the raptors did all season long outscoring and outplaying their opponent in the third quarter. they lead 3-1. >> you have to do it one game at a time. it sounds cliche and for us, that's the only way we'll get back in the series is give erybody out there believed

a live look outside from our golden gate bridge camera. you can see these drivers making their way into the cit accuweather report from lisa argen coming up in a bit. new developments in the negotiations between the united states and mexico. president trump has announced a deal has been reached and he will not impose a 5% tariff on imported goods. abc news reporter mark rem ellard with what's in the agreement. >> president trump announcing a deal has been reached to impose tariffs. the tariffs implemented by the u.s. on monday against mexico are here by indefinitely suspended. they stem the tide of migration

through mexico and to our southern border. >> the united states will immediately expand implementation of the existent migrant protection protocols across its entire southern border. this means that those crossing the u.s. southern border to seek asylum will be rapidly returned to mexico where they may await the adjudication of their asylum claims. >> the u.s. chamber of commerce representing 140 american businesses and agriculture associations put out a strong quote, harm u.s. consumers, farmers and businesses of all sizes across all sectors making us less competitive. the president defending his tough trade tactics. >> tariffs are a beautiful thing. republicans should love what i'm doing. >> trump's proposed 5% tariff on all mexican goods was set to take place on monday and those tariffs could have gone as high as 25% by october. economists had estimated the tariffs on mexican goods

combined with those already insti instituted on chinese products would have been $150 billion a year for american consumers program mark reme the state department says the trump administration has denied requests from several embassies to fly the flag. the agency must give them permission to fly anything other than the american flag. among the u.s. missions overseas that were denied are brazil, germany, israel and latvia. pride flags can be displayed elsewhere on the grounds, but not the official flag pole. in the north bay, santa rosa police have arrestd a teenager in connection with the shooting that injured four people including a 10-year-old boy at jacobs park wednesday night. the 17-year-old suspect started shooting after yelling gang challenges at a group of people. two other suspects were arrested. all of the shooting victims are expected to recover.

in the east bay, a massive swastika installed in the front yard of an el sobrante home has been covered up. sky 7 flew over monday evening. you can see tarps covering the symbol. the symbol was a tibet an peace sign and not one of nazi germany during world war ii. his neighbors disagreed calling the swastika offensive and hateful. 5:15, the time. a brand of baby formula distributed exclusively in the bay area is now the subject of an fda recall. the administration warns anyone who has bobbie baby infant formula in their homes to stop using it. the fda says the milk-based formula does not provide adequate nutrients for growing babies and it lax proper labelling and it is imported from germany. >> athletes with down syndrome

santa rosa and mid-60s by the delta, concord, 55 and livermore, 55 and mount tam, and elevated fire danger through monday and being looking at temperatures soaring and record heat is likely tomorrow into monday. as we get toward your sunday afternoon we're looking at highs in the upper 90s. 90s around the bay and san francisco into the 80s. you may want to head to the coast and look what happens on monday and 104 is possible in concord and 103 in live and by tuesday we get the relief at the coast, but not in our inland valleys and that will take another day and this is santa cruz where it will be pleasant today and the sea breeze awfully light and temperatures there in the lower 80s and look at half moon bay and 72 degrees and ocean beach, 75, and looking at 72 in bodega

bay and the water temperature only 72. those winds turning offshore and these are the upper elevation wind gusts and the colors are indicating gusty winds out of the north from the north bay and then the winds ease up throughout the afternoon and still breezy. 12 to 15, maybe 20 miles an hour and then looking at tonight, we're looking at lighter winds straight out of the north, though. look what happens through the overnight hours and the winds beginning to pick up again after 11:00, we're seeing 20 to 30 miles an hour in the upper elevations and the temperatures aren't going to cool that quickly and then we'll add more heat on top of that into sunday and then monday the winds should ease. nonetheless, we're look at temperatures well above average and it should be in the upper 70s for santa rosa, going 93 today, 94 tomorrow and 99 on monday and by the end of the week temperatures trending cooler. here's san jose, 89 today and

should be in the upper 70s and we're looking at upper 90s as we get toward monday. highs today, elsewhere around the bay. 86 in fremont, looking at 92 in concord with temperatures all over the north bay, close to 90 degrees and so plan on how are you going to get some relief out of the heat the next couple of days and you know it increases today and soaring temperatures on sunday and the accuweather app shows the first half and the end of the week to the beginning of the week very warm temperatures and finally getting to where we should be by the end of next week. it should be toasty. >> i can't stand triple digits. i'm not going to lie. >> lisa, thank you. just ahead, a rattle snake warning. a south bay deputy showing you

closer to banning the sale of electronic cigarettes, a move that opponents call hypocritical. yesterday a committee voted to send the legislation to the board of supervisors for a vote. the ban would mean that e-cigarettes cannot be ordered online or mailed to a san francisco address. supporters point to an alarming spike in youth vaping. >> our job here in san francisco is to make sure that we do everything we can to keep harmful substances out of the hands of our young people. >> if you're going to take off one which is a harm reduction product, why not take off the harmful one, too? >> san francisco-based e-cigarette maker echoed that man's sentiment asking why the city was not targeting combustible cigarettes, as well. a south bay deputy is

recovering from a rattlesnake bite and the incident serves as a warning for all of us. >> in santa clara county, a sheriff's deputy is recovering this week after being bitten by a rattlesnake. it happened on thursday east of mount hamilton as a marijuana eradication team was scouting the area for signs of illegal activity. >> rattlesnakes are widespread here in california and can be found in a wide variety of habitat. so it's a good reminder to both look and listen if you're hiking one of our local trails. these reptiles aren't just confined to rural areas. if youen counter one, stay still. >> if you don't startle tu giv to leave, they will. >> pam says to avoid tall grass, weeds and heavy underbrush where snakes may hide during the day. >> don't try to pick it up. rattlesnakfes a you than you are to them. to them you're just a much larger predator. >> they try to raise their body temps by basking in the sun. >> somebody who was behind me on

baby out of a car in san jose. the mom had locked her keys inside. the quick solution was to smash the passenger side window to rescue the baby. this is a reminder, it is never safe to leave a child alone in the car. the nhtsa says in ten minutes the temperature can increase 20 degrees. the international space station is ready to accept visitors if the visitors have a lot of money and nasa has announced it will open the space station to private astronauts with the first visit as early as next year. the round-trip ticket will cost an estimated $58 million with trips lasting up to 30 days. only two visitors will be announced per year for now and will have to meet the same medical standards and training and the same procedures as regular crew members. >> still to come on abs 7 mornings. a sneak peek of the mural honoring the life of the man whose death sparked international outrage over a police shooting. >>fhe e a.

>> news to build a better bay area. this is abc 7 mornings. welcome back, everyone. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a quick check of the forecast with meteorologist lisa argen, keeping an eye on those red flag warnings today. hi, lisa. >> hi, chris. good morning to you and we are starting out with the red flag warning in the upper elevations of the north bay where winds are already pretty gusty and temperatures are warming and we're looking at the northeasterly winds 15 to 25 miles an hour and gusts likely up to 60 that will drop the relative humidity anywhere this afternoon from 12 to 22%. so if we have any fires they will spread rapidly. also as we get into sunday, looking at a heat advisory right on through the day as temperatures will soar from 95 to 105 around the bay. san francisco could see highs near 90s, anduros as we

most aicipated projects is scheduled to open before the end of the year and we are talking about the berryessa extension which for the for the time ever will bring bart to san jose. it's given bart control of the new ten-mile ten stations inhe months testing trains along the corridor with service expected to begin in december and it's been a monumental effort to get to this point. >> we've built roadways and lots of environmental litigation and it's a large effort that's more than a station and some grass. >> phase two will bring bart to downtown san jose and a terminal at the santa clara cal trains station. >> bart is something else we have focused on as part of building a better bay area. one of the big issues is fare chiefs which cost the transit agency millions a year. the month-long crackdown

take pictures and find inspiration in it. the official unveiling is saturday at noon. the street in front of the station will also be named oscar grant way. >> it's an iconography of this agency coming to terms with the brutal murder of oscar grant and its collaboration with his family and community. >> this mural is the first long term project under bart's art and transit program. they paid a local muralist $38,000 to paint on this highly uneven exterior concrete wall. >> not as tough as it is facing police terrorism. >> this well known local artist known as reefa one. >> i hope the mural opens more dialogue and action to the challenges we face as a black community. i hope it brings a sense of peace and joy to the family, and

she's been a fixture in the oakland arena for 22 years. mildred says the warriors fans hold a special place in her heart. >> the warriors has something that you can't copy because it's in here. it's the heart of the team and you can't copy that. >> she says many people have been coming so long that workers and fans together have grown old together, had children together and celebrated victories together. >> this place has a history of family to me because people have been around each other so young and you're seeing kids grow up. they're seeing them bring their family in. the people that work here. we have a lot of people that have been here longer than i have, 35, 40 years. >> mildred won't be making the move to the new chase center in san francisco. she's retiring. >> and i'm going to miss the,

news to build a better bay area. this is abc 7 inand thanks vmucr joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the first look at the accuweather forecast. lisa argen has a look at this weekend's hot weather and where there is a red flag warning in effect. good morning, lisa. >> good morning, chris. hi, everyone. we have a significant warming trend going into effect over the next three days and we are seeing the gusty winds in the higher elevations and here's live doppler 7 where there's patchy fog and temperatures are cool at the coast, but in the north bay, winds are gusting already over 45 miles an hour and with the added heat today, relative humidity dropping to anywhere from 10 to 20%.
