it's saturday, june 8th, good morning and thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the first look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen tracking the conditions where you live. hi, lisa. >> here's live doppler 7 and it is clear, but boy, the winds are fierce in the upper elevations right now, red flag warning in effect above 1,000 feet. this is for the weekend with soaring temperatures and heat advisories right on through tomorrow where numbers will climb to the triple digits in our inland and east bay. there's the flag. san francisco doesn't look too bad and we're looking at temperatures in the upper 60s and upper 50s and i unths,check out the current win gusts. mount tam, 71 mile an hour wind

gust to the north and sonoma near 49 miles an hour. these wins are outrageous and over the east bay hishllls, 35 miles an hour wind gusts and temperatures will be climbing and the breezy winds tonight which will last for another 24 hours and a big warm-up through the 2:00 hour and we are well into the 80s. chris? >> lisa, thank you. happening now, high fire danger across the north bay is prompting red flag warnings this weekend. these grass fires in cordelia and moraga are a very bad sign. the danger is so high that pg and e proactively turned out power in some communities. parts of napa and lake berryessa went dark. sections of suisun city and in yolo county, parts davis and winter is also impacted. abc 7's liz kreutz has more. >> reporter: evacuations have been lifted in the grass fire that burned near the c

residents bega rur their homes, so does the north bay's fire season. >> this is our first red flag warning here locally in sonoma county. >> in santa rosa where the sound of construction following the fires has become a new normal, a red flag warning is throughed weekend. >> it still serves as a reminder of residents of what's to come this season. >> the santa rosa fire department says they're not staffing up yet, but are taking other precautions. >> we moved our engine into another part of the city to preposition it. >> they're bracing for higher fire danger and pg&e is, too. the utility company says starting 6:00 a.m. saturday they will shut off power to should customers in parts of napa, solano and yolo counties. >> because we've seen increased weather, and we are shutting it off as a precaution for wildfire threats. >> the planned outages

us a priority. >> new haven unified school district teachers will also receive a 2.5% bonus for the 2018 and 2019 school year. >> what's your message to the school district after this 14 days. >> my message is simply has always been the same thing, the fact that we should be recognized and heard. >> the school district had a message for them. both teams put in almost 200 hours at the bargaining table and we are thrilled that the teachers will be back with the students where they want them to be. >> we have to have a ratification vote and that will happen on sunday. once -- pending ratification, teachers can be back in the classroom on monday. >> do you think that's going to happen? >> i think so, yes. >> retirees affected by the days of the strike can now earn those days back if they work over the summer. >> some parents are concerned about those seniors who are waiting for their grades and transcripts to move on to college. i spoke to several teachers who

tax on american goods are, quote,definitely suspended. they, merged with a deal after three day of frantic negotiations. mexico agreeing to a show of force sending 6,000 troops to its southern border with guatemala. >> mexico will take unprecedented steps to increase enforcement to curb migration. >> the mexican government vowing to crack down on human trafficking and smuggling networks. >> those crossing the u.s. southern border to seek asylum will be rapidly returned to mexico where they may await the adjudication of their asylum claims. >> the president faced opposition from his own party. >> well, there is not much support in my conference for tariffs, that's for sure. >> trump threatened to increase the tariffs every month by 5% until they reached 25% or until mexico took steps to curb the flow of migrants. both democrats and republicans

in connection with the shooting that injured four people including a 10-year-old boy at jacobs park wednesday night. they say the 17-year-old suspect started shooting after yelling gang challenges at a group of people. two other suspects were arrested. all of the shooting victims are expected to recover. in the east bay, a massive swastika installed in the front yard of an el sobrante home. sky 7 rode over the home yesterday evening. you can see tarps covering the symbol. he said the symbol was a tibet an peace sign and not one of nazi germany during world war ii. his neighbors disagreed calling the swastika hateful and offensive. a brand of baby formula distributed exclusively in the bay area is the subject of an fda recall. the administration warns anyone who has bobbie baby infant formula in their homes to stop using it. the fda says the milk-based

saturday morning and meteorologist lisa argen tracking the forecast and lisa, as you've been telling us, it's not all fun and games this weekend. >> oh, no. elevated fire danger and here's live doppler 7 where you can see the fog is non-existent, just patchy offshore and the view from sutro she shows a nice, sunny san francisco and 68 degrees downtown and mountain view, upper 60s and 60 in morgan hill and it was 46 this morning, half moon bay and look how much that has jumped, up to 57 and here's the view. you can see the coast here. this is sutro zoomed in here and it's a nice day in the 70s in our beaches and 64 santa rosa and napa has been in the 60s all night long and the winds have been gusting to 33 miles an hour and so those northerly winds and mixing up the atmosphere and

petaluma 32, and 32 mile an hour wind gusts and 69 and upper 60s livermore and it is warm and looking at the winds gusting and this is right, you checked it and 71 miles an hour, mount tam and 53 miles an hour up at about 2,000 feet and 2,024 feet and sonoma county and mount diablo and so the winds are definitely out of control this morning. they will be subsiding throughout the day and then gusting again tonight and still the upper elevations will be quite breezy throughout the afternoon and it is 46 in lake tahoe. 64 for a high today and we're in the 80s sunday, monday and tuesday in the mountains. so elevated fire danger, warmer than average. records are likely, and the temperatures are soaring and the peak heat is on monday and it will be 90s tomorrow over into the east bay and upper 90s in the valleys and san francisco, easily in the 80s. we could hit 90 in the city on monday and the beaches will be quite warm because this is an

offshore event where that sea breeze will be cut off. >> we still have a weak sea breeze today. on tuesday the sea breeze is back and you are still baking in the inland valleys and 81 in santa cruz. elsewhere, half moon bay, ocean beach and a very weak, onshore component if you're right at the coast. so as we go through the afternoon, here are the upper elevation winds. you can see the colors are creating the wind gusts to the north, but as we go through the later afternoon it's gentler around the bay, but let's get into the evening and there's the dark colors after sunset and those begin to gust. 93 today and 94 tomorrow and low 90s on tuesday. the rest of the bay for 82 in richmond and 88 in vallejo, 84 palo atto and the s, 80s and 90s.

good morning, and thanks so much for being with us. i'm chris newen. we're looking ahead to a very warm day across the bay area. meteorologist lisa argen is tracking the conditions where you live. >> hi, chris. the relative humidity is decreasing already. we should ee 80, 90%, and 67 is the relative humidity in fremont. so the winds are drying out the atmosphere and we see wind gusts from 50 to 70 mielsz an hour and we're looking at heat advisories as the temperatures build from 95 to 100 degrees and warmer

than that on monday. in the 80s to near-90 in san francisco, but today, it looks more from walnut creek and 68 in the city and it's 70 in oakland with 57 at the beach and 65 in san jossy and from the east bay hills camera, the wind gusts are up to 48 miles an hour around the diablo range and they're particularly strong and that's why we have the offshore flow and the elevated fire danger throughout the weekend and the red flag warning and here's a look at current wind conditions and 1,000 to 2,000 feet and they should subside throughout the afternoon and temperatures will peak on monday. chris? >> lisa, thank you. >> pg&e's top leader secretly toured the wildfire devastated community of paradise. the chronicle reports it was visited by william alsop so they can witness the damage in person. the judge is overseeing the company's probation and was part of the tour.

pg&e is faulted for starting the fire. as you'll recall, 85 people died in that disaster. time now is 8:31. abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area and one of the region's biggest and most highly anticipated transportation projects is on track to open before the end of the year. we are talking about bart's extension which for the first time ever will bring bart to san jose. the valley transportation authority has given control of the ten-mile extension and two stations in milpitas. bart will spend the next six months testing trains with service expected to begin in december. it's been a monumental effort to get to this point. >> we built roadways as part of the station areas and we did lots of environmental litigations. so it's a large effort that's more than a station and some tracks. >> phase two will bring terminal at the santa clara cal trains station. >> you can share them by joining our better bay area group on

facebook. >> it's been more than ten years since oscar grant died on the platform at the fruitvalley bart station. a new mural honoring his life and legacy will be unveiled. >> leslie brinkley gives us a look at this eye-catching art and introduces us to the man who painted it. >> a blazing wave of blue, and it's oscar grant's favorite color, framed in gold set against the oakland sky line. oscar grant died here at the hands of a bart police officer ten years ago and now the dove ascends from the platform and the cosmos. >> people are already pausing to take pictures and find inspiration in it. the official unveiling is saturday at noon. the street in front of the station will also be imnahhed oscar grant way. >> it's an iconography of this

then he just started throwing me the ball and i started passing the ball and we went from there. >> he says the warriors star is a role model and the essence of what it means to be a golden state he's a really grounded, down to earth person and you can tell that he has great values and morals and you can tell that he's really a passionate person because there are times when they get a certain amount of time to warm up and then he has a certain amount of time to sign autographs and then sometimes some kids would come that wasn't in a position to get autographs and you know, steph will look over and he'll give me a nod so i'll send a child down or whatever. >> curtis has worked at the coliseum for 25 years.

it's his job to keep players and fans safe and ensure that everyone has a memorable time regardless of where they're sitting. >> everybody is the same. if this guy right here had, say, had $10 million and maybe it might took you four or five months to save your money up to come to a game, he's not more important than you are, know? i'm going to accept you for who you are and make sure you're happy at that particular time and make sure that you have a great experience. >> kurt scurtis is hoping to fo the warriors to the chase center. >> i've been here when they were good and when they were bad. mildrid traylor is 84 and a die hard warriors fan and she's been a fixture in the oakland arena for 22 years. mildred says the warriors fans hold a special place in her heart. >> the warriors have something that you can't copy because it's in here.

it's the heart of the team that you can't copy that. >> she says many people have been coming so long that workers and fans together have grown old together, had children together and celebrated victories together. >> this place has a history of family to me because people have been around each other so long, season ticket holders for years and they've seen kids grow up. they've seen them bring their family in. the people that work here, we have a lot of people that's been here longer than i have, sh retirg. >> and i'm going to miss the, you know, coming out here and watching the game. i'm not supposed to watch the game and being in the environment is what i mean because i watch the game after i get home at night. >> that was eric thomas reporting.
