developing news with pg&e because of the wildfire danger. it says it is starting to restore power to the areas you see highlighted. that includes parts of unincorporated napa county and lake they've put out a plan for where to cut the power in the sierra foot hills. the counties are on the map. paradise, chico, auburn and lincoln. we should note pg&e says the planned outages are only for portions of the cities. the power will be turned off at 9:30 p.m. and affect 27,000 customers. we begin our coverage with abc7 news reporter cornell. corn 87? >> reporter: not a good day for

people living on the other side offate las peak. they had their power shut off by pg&e. power is slowly being restored tonight but that could take a while. >> you know, the elderly and then it's not okay. they stay here. >> reporter: margarita sanchez is picking up her parents because their home near lake berriessa has no power. >> no power, no internet. we have to go. >> reporter: pg&e cut power early saturday to 1,600 customers living in high fire danger customers in the north bay due to red flag conditions. >> i'm pretty sure they know what they're doing. the pool at this mobile home community is closed. the this resident is worried that losing all her food in the frig. >> i'm doing the best we can with what we've got. you have to buy a generator and i can't afford to buy a generalator. i'm on a fixed income. >> reporter: last summer the county fire forced residents to

evacuate but mike says his community shouldn't have to suffer again. >> i've been through half a dozen fires. we've never had a problem with power lines arcing of. >> reporter: pg&e is shutting the power down as a precaution. the equipment has been accused of sparking wildfires including in paradise. markley lost power, too. but an emergency generator is keeping the lights on. >> we got an automated phone call yesterday afternoon so we were able to prepare by getting our generators ready. i don't think you're ever as prepared as you want to be. >> reporter: last saturday, pg&e determined the danger had passed and they will start turning the power back on. >> we have our crews on the ground doing in person live safety patrols and inspections of our infrastructure to make sure that it is safe. that it is all safe before we turn the power back on. >> reporter: pg&e says restoring

power to north bay communities could take up to 24 hours and more power outages are possible this weekend. live in napa. abc7 news. >> thanks a lot. the red flag warning that has been issued runs through tomorrow. it is supposed to end at 5:00 p.m. but tomorrow is supposed to be one of the hottest days of the year. let's get now to abc7 news reporter drew tuma. >> reporter: we're tracking the fire danger but also and conditions. it has been nicknamed the sand fire. current conditions near rumsey, it is windy. the winds are gusting close to 27, 28 miles per hour of getting reports from folks in sonoma county seeing the smoke from the fire. we'll continue to see that smoke as the winds are active. so a re flag warning is in if he can for the north bay hills where the winds will gust over 40 miles per hour at times. bringing dangerously low

humidity. the winds are active. frommate las peak to hawkeye. 22 to 30 miles per hour and that will continue to bring in some bone dry air. look at the relative humidity. it is so dry at 15% in santa rosa. 16% in napa. so the winds unfortunately will continue to be active later this evening. gusting well over 30 miles per hour. they will relax tomorrow midday. some good news there. however, tomorrow is a hotter day than today. we'll have the numbers when i see you after the forecast in a few minutes. >> all right. thank you. rewood city firefighters spent this morning preparing for fire season. they held an evacuation drill. you can see all the people involved. san francisco first responders spend the day preparing for one of the unfortunate realities of today. active shooters. the scene inside a downtown high rise looked day on theic. it was supposed to. it helped police training for violence and fire as realistically as possible.

younger from june 17 through august 21. meals will be served at berkeley arts magnet monday through friday. meals are available june 17-july 19 at berkeley high school. salaries and class sizes have led to teachers strikes in the bay area. the long. he of them may be over pending a vote. the new haven unified school district has announced it has a deal to tend 14-day walk out. teachers are said to agree on it tomorrow. if they ratify, they'll return to the classrooms monday for the last being of school. the district has about 11,000 students. we want to hear your ideas about building a better bay area. join us on facebook. in the east bay, a mural, a newly name street honoring oscar grant. family, friends and community members gathered to remember the 22-year-old african-american who

was fatally shot by a b.a.r.t. police officer new years day 2009. grant's mother fought to get that mural off. >> just for b.a.r.t. to be able to allow and present us with doing a mural and a street name change brings forth a sense of, they understand that my son's life was taken unjustly. >> i know what the mural, a previously unnamed street was also named and dedicated in grant's honor. lyft has made good on the plan to put a lot more shared bikes on the streets. it filed a suit to stop competitors. lyft says it plans to get a temporary restraining order against san francisco from immediately granting any bike share permit until the suit is resolved. right now the city has two shared systems. the city last month allowed other dockless companies the

in the north bay, rescuers saved a baby great horned owl in a tree. it was dehydrated and hungry. it was brought to wild care to recover and they built a basket and ann arborist put it up. people reported seeing people feeding the owl. some of the aircraft will go on display again tomorrow in concord. abc7 news was at buchanan field airport to check out the flying fortress. it enabled the u.s. and others to defeat. it was part of the wichbds freedom tour. one came to admire the planes he's seen. >> every memorial day, we see them flying over our home. we came out to take advantage of

the numbers continue. well into the 70s, close to 90 degrees in some spots. this is not only an area in the inland east bay. it goes into effect at 10:00 in the morning. pretty much around the entire bay shoreline. you can see the increased risk for heat-related illness. starting the south bay, it is hot. 96, the forecast and hot. along the peninsula, equally as warm. 90 in san mateo. even half moon bay. it's warm. downtown san francisco, you'll feel the heat tomorrow. 83 for daly city. well into the 90s, 96, the forecasted high in santa rosa.
