a weekend of wildfires and scorching heat. several fires continue to burn right now and the temperatures are expected to get even

with red flag warnings posted this weekend, firefighters were out in full force as wildfires popped up across northern california. one in south san jose today tearing through acres of dry brush. >> it was a hot end to the weekend. in fact, six records were broken or tied. but we're tracking even hotter air on your monday. we'll have the numbers in the accuweather forecast. >> i'm luz pena in union city where new haven teachers have ratified a tentative agreement. what's going to happen to the seniors who never took a final? abc7 news starts right now. >> now, news to build a better bay area from abc7. >> it was a sizzling sunday with several cities breaking heat

records, but while it was fun in the sun for some, the conditions created a lot of hard work for firefighters. i'm eric thomas. thanks for joining us. we have team coverage of the heat and the fire weather conditions tonight starting with abc news meteorologist drew tuma. >> yeah, we are wrapping up a hot weekend that created record warmth across the entire region. look at the numbers, oakland set a record of 91, half moon bay it's hottest day reported in june at 86 degrees and san francisco hit a record high of 91. that 91 degree reading in the city, the hottest day in nearly two years. go back to september of 2017 to find a hotter day than that. it's been awhile pore some cities in terms of warmth. out there right now, a warm night. you open up the windows, you can feel the mild air near 80 in san jose, 81 in mountain view. 75 in oakland. tomorrow morning as we get you out the door, sunny skies.

a warm start especially around the bay and inland, already into the 60s. watch these temperatures take off tomorrow. future tracker temperatures by noon on your monday, widespread 80s and 90s. we have self more hours of warming to go tomorrow afternoon. so another heat advisory has been in effect. we'll talk about an even warmer day on the way tomorrow and finally find relief in the full accuweather forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you. from the north bay to the south bay, there have been fires all over the bay area this weekend. news reporter kate larson is live in south san jose where firefighters are still on the scene of a fire that started this afternoon. kate? >> reporter: eric, that's right. going into the weekend, we knew that there was a fire weather watch which then escalated to a red flag warning in some parts of the bay area. firefighters have been busy and you can see that cal fire is still here on the mahlik fire which burned near 101 today.

air tankers and cal fire helicopters made water and retardant drops on a fast moving fire that burned more than 200 acres of dry brush in south san jose. >> we had a very, very wet may and that puts people cop placent fire season is far off. but the grasses and fuels that are the fine fuels are ready to burn. >> reporter: the fire started behind this public shooting range sunday afternoon. division chief jim crawford said the range was open and is being investigated as one possible cause of the fire that ignited on a dangerous fire weather weekend. >> it has been very active. a lot of initial attack here locally as well as other fires outside of the area. >> 0 miles away in mill valley, flames burned along panoramic highway and muir woods road. a transformer caught fire. pg&e is investigating an outage in that area. the sand fire in yolo county forced evacuations.

>> the biggest concern is losing the farm and house and everything. >> reporter: pete mccloskey and his wife helen had to leave their house in a hurry after flames which burned more than 2,000 acres so far got too close. >> this is the new norm. >> in the east bay, firefighters snuffed out a grass fire that toed ten acres near marsh creek and deer valley roads. on friday, 50 homes were briefly evuated in solano fire while the cordelia fire burned in rural fairfield. the mallick fire is now 70% contained. firefighters will be here through the night to make sure that the fire doesn't cause any more problems. tomorrow, of course, we're looking at really hot temperatures throughout the bay area. fortunately, the winds will be a little lighter which mean there are no official fire wargs for the start of week. live in san jose, kate larson, abc news. >> thank you very much. if you're worried about fire

danger, a town hall meeting is set for tomorrow to discuss the risk in the east foothills. it starts at 6:30 at the foothill presbyterian church on the key road in san jose. gister online with the santa clara county fire department. pg&e says they've restored power to nearly all customers i packeted by a precautionary power shutoff in beaut and yuba counties. they started cutting power amid the dangerous conditions. crews today inspected nearly 800 miles of overhead power lines. pg&e says during inspections they found daniel to dee energized equipment caused by weather. crews are making the necessary repairs. pg&e also shut off power in some north bay communities for hours on saturday. we sent out a push alert this morning as temperatures began to climb to let people know about the now expired red flag warning, heat advisory and spare the air alert. down the abc7 news app to get weather updates anytime and enable push alerts for instant

notifications. >> a small plane crashed just north of pittsburgh pittsburgh. aircraft debris and a backpack were pound in the water but the rest of the cherokee and the pilot have not been located. the sheriff's office says the pilot was the only occupant of the plane. it had just taken off from concord. deputies used sonar to certainly for the wreckage. the faa and ntsb will investigate. >> in the east bay, teachers in te new haven unified school district go back to work tomorrow after ratifying a tentative deal. they were on strike for 14 days. news reporter luz pena has the latest on this. >> reporter: eric 60% of teachers voted in favor of this agreement but it's been a very long road for many of them. it's technically not over for high school teachers who have a new challenge ahead of them on monday. every student from the new haven school district will go back to school tomorrow except for the

seniors. many things transpired during the 14-day strike, there was lots of back and forth and several arguments. today the tentative agreement was finally ratified. >> things like this take time. the starting place here, we got the attention. the strike gave a new kind of understanding to the district. >> reporter: in a statement, unified school district explain add agreement which includes a 4% unscheduled pay increase over two years from 2018 to 2020 plus a 2.5% of scheduled pay increase for this year, 2018 to 2019. >> they came up with this idea that based on grades already set in place on the record, they would look at those grades and make some kind of assessment what grades should be given to the student. >> 500 teachers voted today, 3 unof them for this agreement. 200 against it. but now many of them have a new challenge ahead of them. seniors' last day of school was friday even though there's still

a week left of school. normally they would have taken finals but the district already gave them a grade. >> they're going to make us responsible for those grades. all illegal issue has come back after that they're going to come back. >> this mom had to call the district about her daughter's he grade. >> she worked very hard to get them up only to find out the second week in the strike, the grade dropped to a failing grade. they moved it back. >> around 800 seniors will graduate next saturday and according to the teacher's union, approximately 120 of them could be at risk based on their final grade to graduate. we contacted the new haven unified school district about the grades and they still have not returned our calls. lewis pena abc7 news. >> thank you very much. and update on a planned strike by thousands of kaiser mental health clinicians. they will return to the negotiating table. there are about 4,000 workers in

another hot day across the region. even as you get out the door tomorrow morning, you'll notice the warmth. it turns really hot by the afternoon. a heat advisory has been extended tomorrow. we had one today that expired at 9:00 p.m. earlier this evening and another one will go into issuance at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning lasting through the afternoon. by tuesday, we'll first see cooling along the coast. by wednesday, we'll see widespread cooling across the region. it's very gradual release of this heat. out there right now, it has been awhile since we've seen temperatures like these this late at night. 77 san francisco, 75 in oakland, 79 right now in san jose, 7 in brentwood. north bay mild at this hour with temperatures in the upper 60s, napa 66. overnight tonight it will be a warm night. look at your lows, cities will stay in the 60s over the next 12 hours. so these numbers, they will be

the launching pad for our temperatures to get really hot tomorrow afternoon. it's for that fact another heat advisory again, we'll start at 10:00 a.m. in the morning on monday lasting till 9:00 at night for essentially the entire bay area. what this means is that this extreme heat this time of year, you could see heat exhaustion and heat strokes. take it easy if you have to be outside for prolonged periods of time. take frequent breaks in the shade. drink plenty of water and find ac from time to time if you're lucky enough to see it. highs on monday, in the south bay, 100 degrees in san jose, the forecasted high 99 in santa clara, same in gilroy. sunnyvale 97. along the peninsula 94 in retwood city, 85 in the mountain view. 94 in menlo park. downtown san francisco another warm one,5, lots of sunshine. 86 in daly city. north bay, 100 degrees. santa rosa 95, san rafael 99 in

live where you live. this is abc7 news. >> just flew off -- oh, my god, and the crane is falling over. oh, my god! >> a horrifying scene in dallas, texas today. a crane topples over in high winds crashing on to an apartment building and a parking garage. i'm eric thomas. authorities say hurricane force winds are responsible for bringing down the massive construction crane. the dallas fire rescue department says a woman was killed in the collapse. six others were hurt, two of them critically. rescuers are combing through the damage looking for additional victims. >> i don't recall ever responding to one where it's actually fallen on to an occupied building, must less as occupied five story high-rise

allow extradition of anyone who leaves hong kong soil. opponents see it as a way to undermine hong kong's semi autonomous legal system. in san francisco, protesters marched in solidarity from portsmith square to the hong kong trade office. >> celebrations were held this weekend but the celebrations came as authorities investigate possible hate crimes against members of the lgbtq community. here's abc reporter lana zak. >> reporter: sunday's pride parade in west hollywood drawing huge crowds. but as pride month celebrations continue across the country and around the world, the fbi reports that attacks against members of the lgbtq community are on the rise. saturday's capital pride parade in washington, d.c. turned to chaos when people panicked after series a loud of pops and rumors of an active shooter. crowds scrambled to find cover, several people injured.

plume of smoke towards six flags just north of los angeles. marci gonzalez has the latest in tonight a scare scene near one of america's biggest amusement parks. a fast-moving brush fire breaking out near six flags magic mountain outside of los angeles, thick smoke billowing just behind some of the park's popular water slides creating a haze. guests initially told by the park to evacuate. panicked parents and children racing to exits. you could see the blaze burning with fire crews nearby. but l.a. county fire asking those guests to stay put while 100 county firefighters battled the flames. but guests were all eventually allowed to leave. flames are out. the smoke is clearing. we've learn this had park will remain closed till monday morning. marci gonzalez, abc news, santa clarita, california. >> still ahead, the gun bat with deputies that went down at one man's home after he shot at his

together. and building a better bay area takes all of us. >> american airlines today extended cancellations caused by the boeing 737 max groundings to early septembr. those could put a damper on labor day travel plans. american has been hit hard this summer by the groundings. it stipulates 115 flights per day will be canceled through september 3rd. it the faa still needs to approve the fix for the jets before they're cleared to fly. two 737 maxes crashed claiming the live of 346 people. in florida, two sheriffs deputies are recovering tonight after being wounded during a violent series of events that began with a man shooting his wife's amazon alexa. he barricaded himself inside his home near tamp. he opened fire. shots hit parked cars. deputies moved in trying to stop
