now. we have the on and off ramps in the area that are still blocked that will be at tamalpais drive. a quick check of mass transit west oakland to embarcadero, a ten-minute delay in the east bay direction due to an equipment problem on the track and, again, pretty minor so far. i will keep an eye on that. this just in. a deadly crash in san jose overnight and we just got this new video in to our newsroom. you can see it was a really bad crash there. it was near northbound 101. chp was chasing the driver of a bmw who would not stop. it led to the chase and speeds reached up to 120 miles per hour. the driver ran through a red light and plowed into a minivan and the driver of the minivan died. a passenger is in critical condition, hospitalized right now. meanwhile, the driver of the bmw that wouldn't stop is in police

custody. we have sky 7 on the way to the scene right now, still some road closures there i believe. we'll have an update as soon as possible in our newscast. reggie? jessica, thank you. a pilot is missing after a small plane crash north of pittsburg. aircraft debris and a backpack were found in the delta after it crashed yesterday, but the rest of the plane and the pilot have not been located. the sheriff's office says the pilot was the only person on the plane. authorities say it had just taken off. deputies used sonar to search for the wreckage. they will investigate the cause of the crash. with the heat advisory people everywhere will be looking for ways to keep cool today. >> abc 7 news was at ocean beach where many families tried to beat the heat yesterday. fire officials, though, say people should not go into the water as a way to cool off. >> we recommend staying out of the water. it's tempting to go in on these hot days. you can easily be taken in by the undertow. >> officials are reminding

the 880 flyover as that turns into 80. that has cleared. that was blocking one lane for about 20 minutes or so. still heavy on the approach this morning. we just got an early start. and that was due to disabled vehicle that is long gone at this point. have an update on the b.a.r.t. delay. it was up to 20 minutes between west oakland and embarcadero stations just as i was walking up here, they changed it back to ten minutes once again and that delay in all directions. however, they have resolved the equipment problem on the track and they are resuming normal service. this is actually getting better than what it looks like right here on this graphic. i'll update that shortly. >> that is a relief. speaking of b.a.r.t., two months after b.a.r.t. proposed an unarmed ambassador program they have found funding to launch it. the b.a.r.t. general manager proposed half a million dollars for the program, and she says the metropolitan transportation commission may match that. so it would bring it up to a million dollars. the program would train people

welcome back. we are tracking breaking news right now in san jose. sky 7 just getting to the scene of a deadly crash that happened overnight. you can see sky map 7 technology above this live image coming in to our newsroom and you can see that it's southbound 101 where they are investigating right now this deadly crash. large investigation under way. here is what we know. chp was chasing a driver of a bmw who wouldn't stop. they got to speeds of up to 120 miles per hour at some point. the driver plowed into a minivan. there was a passier ieier jer minivan. parts of the street are closed. we'll keep you updated. now back to you. 6:15 now. take a look. this is scary video out of

arizona. this is nest camera footage. there were two children on the trampoline when you see the gust of wind sends it hurtling into the air. both boys are okay after recovering from their injuries. they were playing on the backyard when the trampoline and the boys were sent flying 50 feet over a brick wall and straight into the street. it happened so fast. the kids don't remember being in the air. they just remember hitting the ground. >> it came at us and flipped us over the wall and it happened in the blink of an eye. >> it happened super quick. >> i just remember, like, being on the trampoline and then the floor. >> thank goodness they're okay. the boys' parents say do not forget to secure your trampoline and tie it down. the drug to stop diabetes from developing for up to two years. it works by dampening the immune system which allows the body to continue making insulin. we're going to talk about dogs in a little bit. it's not the story. doctors presented their findings at the american diabetes association meeting. it could be years before it hits the market. the drug needs fda approval. let's talk about dogs. if you're stressed out apparently it could be affecting your dog as well. swedish researchers found a correlation in cortisol levels in stressed out humans and their canine friend. it is the chemical released by our bodies in response to stress. they're not sure why the levels sync up but it could be evidence that human/dog bonds are even stronger than we previously thought. >> my dog doesn't care at all if i'm stressed. he does if my husband is

"the chronicle" reports the scavenger hunt included doing drugs, sexual harassment and named several students. participants record every act to get points for a cash prize. the principal said the hunt was not sponsored by the school and some of the items on the list could be considered criminal.

still tracking that breaking news in san jose. a deadly crash overnight. this is from sky 7, live images coming in. you can see there's a big investigation still under way. right near 101 still blocked off right now as investigators are onscene and you can see part of that -- sky 7 and one of those cars involved appears to be involved in the crash. a bmw was leading police on a car chase reaching up to 100 miles an hour. the driver ran through a red light, crashed no a minivan. the driver died. the passier is said to be in critical condition. you can see moments after the crash it was a really nasty scene. the driver of the bmw is in custody again.

we're monitoring things from sky 7 right now and if we get any other news as to when that road opens we'll get back to you. a teachers strike is finally over after 14 days. here is what we know about the new agreement. >> a total of a 6.5% raise. teachers voted to approve yesterday and they are returning to work today. students are also heading back to class this morning. reporter amy hollyfield live for us in union city. good morning, amy. >> reporter: hi, good morning. there's a new issue now because of the strike, so here at the high school teachers are going to have to pay some extra attention to the seniors. that's because while the teachers were on strike administrators went ahead and gave the seniors a grade without having them take their final exams. they did that so they would go ahead and have their transcripts that they would need to take to college. now the teachers coming back will have to check those grades and adjust them if needed.

>> i calm up with a plan how to do that. they came up with this idea based on grades already set in place on the record, they would look at those grades. >> reporter: here is a breakdown of the agreement. a 4% pay raise over two years. the teachers had been asking for 10%. they will get a 2.5% raise this year. they'll be back in class today after being out on strike for two weeks. the last day of school is this thursday. they will be taking final exams this week. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. i'm hoping to ask you a quick question. was this a unanimous decision on the part of the teachers? do they seem happy to be back at work this morning? >> reporter: no, no, not even close. only 60% voted for this. the vote was taken yesterday.

not an overwhelming landslide by any means. >> we appreciate it. thank you so much. back here at the live desk i want to show you the aftermath of a crane collapse in dallas, texas, where one woman is dead and five others are hurt. we got this new video overnight. you can see a crane at a construction site and it tore through a five-story apartment building and a parking garage that was next door. a lot of damage there. abc news spoke with a man who spotted his neighbor dangling over the edge of the garage. >> yeah, we have to get him out of there. he's in a car that's hanging that's about to fall. >> wow, what a scary scene. that crane collapsing during a violent storm where wind gusts hit 71 miles an hour, knocked out power to parts of the city as well. rescuers say that all the people in the accessible units are

accounted for, but some units as well as the parking garage too damaged for a thorough search right now so that operation still under way this very minute. i will continue tracking the situation. reggie, back to you. baseball legend david ortiz is recovering this morning after he was shot in the back at a nightclub in the dominican republic. the former boston red sox slugger was shot last night. his father says his son is resting comfortably. ortiz is a former world series mvp. onlookers held the suspect until police got there. there is no indication what led up to the shooting. >> the defense is expected to start laying out its case in the ghostship trial today. attorneys for derick almena and max harris will testify a woman who claims a group of men may have started the fire. sharon evans was not inside of the warehouse when the fire broke out, but she claims to have seen men talking and laughing about the fire as it erupted. the defense believes that evans

is critical. the state legislature is expected to approve a budget deal that will make california the first state for low income adults even if they're undocumented. the plan will cover adults between 19 and 25. the health benefits will be paid. the legislature rejecteded a new tax on water bills proposed by governor newsom to improve the state's drinking water systems. lawmakers agreed to use existing state money. nearly 100 jobs may be cut if sonoma county supervisors approve its $1.7 billion budget this week. county department heads are considering cutting 92 positions from the 4,000 member workforce. they proposed reducing contracts, services and supplies. the first budget hearing is tomorrow morning.

public comment will be held tomorrow afternoon. crews are making progress against a wildfire. the sand fire has forced evacuations. flames have burned at least seven buildings. the fire started saturday afternoon. part of highway 16 remains closed. no word on when evacuated residents will be able to go back home. firefighters continue to battle a wildfire that has burned more than 200 acres of dry brush in south san jose. it is just one of several wildfires that had crews on the move all weekend. the fire broke out around 3:15 yesterday afternoon along highway 101. it's burning near the firing range run by the sheriff's office. so far it is 70% contained. >> we had a very, very wet may. i think that really puts people complacent that fire season is further off. really the grasses and the fuels that are the fine fuels really

are ready to burn. >> cal fire says the range was open, and it is being investigated as one possible cause of the fire. as temperatures climb efforts are ramping up in the south bay to keep people prepared for possible wildfires. happening today a town hall meeting to discuss the risk in santa clara county's east foothills. officials will answer questions on things like defensible spaces around homes and creating an evacuation plan. the meeting starts at 6:30 at the foothill presbyterian church. people are encouraged to register online with the santa clara county fire department. one of the country's most popular theme parks is going to reopen later this morning. look what happened yesterday. a fire got very close. six flags is just outside of l.a. and they will reopen at 10:30 today. the park was evacuated and closed for the day yesterday afternoon. the fire has burned about 40 acres and is 50% contained. nine people were taken to the hospital for smoke exposure.

this is what happens when you get a fall pattern in early to mid-june. it's not supposed to be like this. that's why we are seeing things months down the road are happening already. look at these temperatures in the south bay. 75 in los altos hills. 72 in milpitas. the cool spot morgan hill and still 60 there. our temperatures along the coast are running nearly 10 to 15 degrees warmer than your average highs right now. 70 at half moon bay. san francisco, 75. bodega bay, 76 degrees. san mateo bridge, i started in sfo yesterday, came back from mini vacation, telephonesit was. got to hayward and it was 99. if you get over the water, there will be a little comfort. hot, hot and hot. in 20 minutes the car can warm up about 30 degrees and 30 minutes about 35 to 40 minutes. it can warm nearly 40 to 50

degrees. look at the temperatures, 90 by 11:00. 100 by 3:00. let's take a look at the east bay where it will be in the low to mid-90s from noon to 5:00. our last stop san francisco. we're in the 80s from noon all the way to 5:00. some areas around downtown, twin peaks, 90 again today. here is alexis with the morning commute. overall a pretty smooth commute. looking live at the san mateo bridge, westbound 92 has filled in. a couple issues, sounds like a large piece of debris, maybe a metal pole was in the left lane. i believe chp has cleared that. that could be slowing you down further this morning. we also have filled in southbound 680, north of the 24 split was looking good for most of the morning. in the last 15 or 20 minutes that has reached its peak volume this morning. we have not had any blocking issues through that stretch. so that's looking good. and just one mass transit issue so far. it is a spare the air day.
