10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. so you know it is going to be another day. heat exhaustion, definitely you want to know the signs of heat exhaustion. pale skin, sweaty, nausea, dizzy. move to find some a/c, drink cool water. no sweating, high body temperature, call 911. there is relief coming. first at the coast, i'll let you know when all areas will feel it coming up. dan and ama? >> thank you, sandhya. >> moving on to a tragic story in san francisco today, a 14-year-old boy sadly pulled from the water at chrissy field has died. >> abc7 news reporters liz was there. she's live with more for us. liz. >> reporter: good evening. it was incredibly distressing to witness this today. the boy's mother was here as her son was pulled out of the water. sadly, it was too late for this teenager, but it serves as an important reminder for all of us to take those extra precautions as we enter the summer months. for 90 minutes monday,

for a 14-year-old boy who disappeared in the water off crissy field. >> he was with a group of seven of his friends. they noticed he what struggling to be in the water. >> reporter: christine boulder son saw it and tried to help. >> i was swimming in the water trying to find him five or ten minutes before the rescue team got there. i wanted to help anyway i could. i wish i would have been able to. >> reporter: eventually he was found. a dramatic scene as rescue divers and paramedics pull the teenager who reportedly didn't know how to swim brought him to shore and began cpr. >> we did that 20 minutes on the shore here with aggressive paramedic. >> reporter: despite the efforts it was too late. >> it is sad for me to say at this time that we have confirmed that this is a fatality. >> reporter: with record heat across the bay area, more people are hitting the beaches. but safety is a top concern. at most san francisco beaches, there are no lifeguards. likehy aren't there lifeguards i

because the beaches got flocked. >> reporter: the s.f. fire department says just don't be fooled by a beautiful day. >> if you're coming to our coast lines, know before you go. our beaches are beautiful, however, there are inherent dangers and hazards that are here. >> reporter: just a tragic story today, but san francisco fire department, they say that swim in groups, swim with friends. if you don't know how to swim, they say stay out of the water. they also tell people to consider maybe going to a beach that does have lifeguards. they mentioned stenson beach in marin county. liz, abc7 news. >> terrible. liz, thanks. the heat caused many problems thsd to citizen app, a sfons to an outage in san francisco a few hours ago. it began with an issue around the area of broadway and stockton street. they say it is likely heat related. 2300 customers were without

power at the height of the outage. about 300 people are still in the dark as we speak. >> we've seen numerous power outages throughout the day all over the bay area. pg&e says about 12,000 customers don't have electricity right now. palo alto had one of the largest outages earlier with about 7,000 customers losing power. concord, walnut creek, lafayette, san mateo are some of the other cities that have experienced significant outages. >> the heat is also causing problems with our transit systems. bart had system wide delays hours because of the extreme weather. earlier this evening stations were packed as people tried to get home. riders were asked to leave some stations because it was to overcrowded. as you can see, they were packed says rail expands in extreme heat so all agencies have to slow down their trains. >> in the east bay, a small fire came within 100 yards of some home abc7 news was on willow pass road as firefighters quickly knocked down those flames. about 15 acres on what used to be the concord naval weapon station. >> in the south bay cal fire

you know, building a better bay area is around the clock task that does not stop for summer break. in the south bay, advocates for homeless students at san jose state university has been a problem, as say the upcoming months will be especially difficult for those young people. abc7 news reporter amanda del castillo has the story now from san jose. >> reporter: abc7 news was there in december when dozens camped out at sjsu to highlight student homelessness. in march when students rallied demanding the university take action. and in april when the university's president gave her state of the university address. still, the student homeless alliance says little has been done to stop student homelessness. >> we were talking about this last december, with the weather being really cold. now it's summertime and we're still having the problem with it being hot. >> reporter: the new leader of the alliance, after a csu report found 13% of sjsu students were struggling with on the university to provide more options to those lacking food

and a safe place to sleep. >> the administration is a little out of touch with what students actually need. >> reporter: he says during the school year, many homeless students spend their nights at king library, which is open 24 hours from sunday to thursday. but in the summer months, doors close much earlier. any student looking for refuge is out of luck. >> that could be shelters, it could be back to their cards, club surfing if there are friends here. some go away for the summer. >> reporter: they are eyeing the state government building downtown for possible affordable housing units. the alliance is hoping the potential move will help solve at least part of the problem. we reached out to sjsu. no one was available for comment. a spokesperson pointed to resources still available over the summer, including sjsu cares and the university's permanent food pantry. in san jose, i'm amanda del castillo, abc7 news. >> we want to hear your ideas about building a better bay area. you can share them by joining our better bay area facebook

group. >> in the south bay, vandals smashed windows at a resource center for transgender and queer youth. windows were boarded up at the youth space. the damage was discovered this morning. it's not clear if it's a hate crime during pride month, but workers at the center say if it is, they're going to try to turn it into a monthstive. >> you know, how can we combat forms of stigma, how can we combat forms of homophobia, really having conversations with folks. >> the center doesn't have security cameras as part of its effort to be a confidential space, but it will now consider more security. >> all right. let's turn your attention to the heat. we're talking heat. it was really steamy. >> hopefully week get a break sometime soon, sandhya. >> it was sweltering out there. the east bay hills camera, we saw high clouds coming in this afternoon. still waiting for that fog, but it was a spectacular sunset at

8:31 tonight. the high wispy clouds, haze from air quality. take a look at doppler 7. the humidity is increasing indicating that perhaps a shallow marine layer is forming near the coast line. temperatures right now in the 60s to the 80s. i mean, it's 77 in san francisco, 86 degrees in brentwood. this is just -- this is even higher than highs for the afternoon. take a look at the air quality for tomorrow. it is going to suffer. moderate to poor, so a spare the air alert issued for your tuesday. now, i do want to show you where those temperatures are going. let's sample a few cities. concord and san jose to be specific. tomorrow morning it's going to start out pretty warm as you will notice 75 in concord at 8:00 a.m., san jose same thing, warming rapidly into the low 90s by the time we head into the lunch hour. concord in the triple digits later on in the afternoon with san jose in the 90s. so take it easy out in the heat.

in the south bay, a badger is back in the wild tonight. palo alto animal control released the animal today after rescuing it offer the weekend. poor little guy. the badger was found near the downtown area saturday morning by some hotel workers who heard it hissing. sightings are extremely rare, but badgers are found in california. look at that face. >> yes, get me out of
