it's almost over. find out when those temperatures will drop. if you think it's hot outside, try checking public transportation where it's 90 degrees outside. i just stepped out of a meeting where city leaders are still working to decide whether to ban oversized vehicles from parking on city streets. abc 7 news starts right now. as sandhya just mentioned a third day of scorching heat, power outages and fires. >> records were breaking around the bay area. abc 7 news meteorologist sandhya patel here with more numbers. >> and that heat on sunday with record breaking heat. as you can see here this is day three. 102 in napa, centfield, richmond, all now records.

sfo 89. 99, san jose. 85 in half moon bay. those were all records, but it was even hotter inland in the mid-100s today. take a look at the changes coming. tomorrow it's going to be cooler. some of our microclimates, 79 in oakland. 93 degrees in walnut creek. so still hot but not as hot as today. 96 degrees in antioch. >> this is live look of all the power outages pg&e is reporting. nearly 1,000 customers right now, most of them in the east bay. a lot of people have had to sweat it out today without their electricity. there have been several outages. lisa? >> reporter: dan, power did not go out here but it was very hot. in fact those behind me tell me it was so hot they almost ran

out of ice today. when it's this hot it's hard to find ways to deal with it, but imagine doing it without power? >> i laid on the tile floor in my bathroom to try to stay cool. so i took my nap there, and it was cool because laying on the bed was too hot. >> reporter: when you're a toddler it's much easier. the martins and those living on overhill road are doing what they can to stay cool. power has been out since 2:45 p.m. >> well, we put in insulation when we first moved in which i think has been helpful. >> we opened the windows this morning when it was cooler and then closed them up when it started to get warm. 5,500 homes samos perorery,. have been without power. this is video from the citizen app showing work happening in

downed power line. but pg&e says the cause is still under investigation. you can stay up-to-date with any alerts just download the abc 7 app. new details tonight in a deadly officer involved shooting in the east bay. police say they shot and killed a 56-year-old man in san leandro. kate? >> reporter: we spoke to police here not long ago and one of the officers who responded allegedly knew the suspect on a first-name basis. that suspect allegedly had a machete and something that looked like a gun. nest cam video shows a police car speeding down martin boulevard. four minutes later a single gunshot. >> i didn't hear any yelling, but i heard like thegur: eporte neighbors like a.j. then saw more squad cars show up to what he says is an otherwise quiet neighborhood. sky 7 was overhead as san

leandro police surrounded the house where one the officers a nine year veteran of the department shot a man following an incident in the neighborhood. >> the caller that called 911 stated to the dispatcher that this individual was walking up and down the street wielding the mutiaty and at one point had dropped his pants and exposed his genitals to small children that were on the street as well. >> reporter: lieutenant isaac says officers tried for five minutes to reason with the suspect. at some point he dropped the machete but police still felt threatened. >> quickly stood up in a threatening manner and produced something from his side and quickly pointed it at the officers. >> reporter: thinking it was a gun an officer shot and killed him. >> he just died instantly right there on the ground. >> reporter: neighbors who knew the man for decades say he grew up in san leandro. >> he was always there, very helpful. >> he was a good guy. he watched out for me. >> reporter: all right, so the

investigation is ongoing. the suspect did not have a gun. police say they recovered a wooden object that looks like a gun at the scene. but the alameda county da's office is involved in the investigation, which is protocol whenever there's an officer involved shooting. and i'm told they will be examining body cam footag of all the responding officers. kate larson, abc 7 news. happening now along the peninsula, mountain view city leaders are demanding a ban on parking rvs. opponents say the move is unconstitutional. abc 7 news reporter amanda decostillio is live in mountain view. >> reporter: the ban would specifically imfact families who live in rvs or trailers parked overnight in mountain view. rvs and trailers lining city streets. shelter for many of the city's

homeless. ahead of the meeting dozens rallied outside city hall hoping to sway city leaders. >> these are people who can't afford the rent here. these are people who have jobs, their kids are in school. maybe they've retired or have a disability. >> reporter: but the city says other residents have raised traffic related and sanitary concerns, excessive litter, sewage and noise from generators. >> most of these are just petty complaints in my eyes, and we should not be demonizing these people just from living, and especially because they're the product of our inaction on gentrification. >> reporter: writing city leaders about the ban calling it unconstitutional. they say the decision is discriminatory against homeless people, punishment for their circumstance. attorneys warn the move could lead to future legal action. >> and the people that i'm working with, they want to make

sure that we find a place for these people because the rent is too damn high. >> reporter: the city is also working on a policy for a safe parking program. although advocates for those living in these vehicles say more needs to be done. in mountain view, abc 7 news. >> and we want to hear your ideas about building a better bay area. new developments with san francisco's sales force transit center. it's going to1st, a little more months after it shutdown because of two cracked beams. but there is a catch. it will take a little longer for bus service to be restored to the transbay terminal. that's expected to happen by the middle of summer. new pickup zones for ride share passengers at san francisco international airport are creating confusion and in some cases long wait times. >> last week the ride share zone was moved to the fifth floor of the domestic garage.

fog. not tomorrow morning, though. 5:00 a.m. some high clouds. 8:00 a.m. you're still looking at those high clouds and then we start to notice the fog rushing back in. tomorrow afternoon, evening it'll re-establish itself and that'll be our natural ac if you will. forget about the jackets, the sweaters. temperatures in the 50s to 70s. tomorrow afternoon it's going to be a warm one in the south bay but nothing like today. 89 santa clara, 92 degrees in gill roy. near the coast 70 half moon bay, 69 pacifica. downtown san francisco, 73 degrees. daly city, 68. and north bay 92 for you in santa rosa, 83 san rafael. this will be bearable heat, if you will. 84 caster valley. head inland, still be a hot one. not as hot as today. mid-90s around concord, fairfield. 92 in pleasanton. the heat eases tomorrow.
