good morning, anser. >> reporter: you may want to give yourself extra time. passengers complaining about hot trains and the heat has been causing problems to the b.a.r.t. tracks. it has been so hot that the heat caused b.a.r.t. tracks to expand making for bumpy rides where the joints were not lining up. b.a.r.t. has had probles with track switches not moving into the proper position meaning b.a.r.t. trains have to slow way down if not come to a complete stop until the switch was made. crews had to set up portable air eqom oting. from passengers this meant long lines in the heat and long delays. many complained it was hotter than out on the streets. >> stopped in front of an empty lot for like ten minutes and then it went really slow like i

could have run along the track. >> it's in the 90s. >> reporter: temperatures are expected to be cooler today, it may not be as bad. no delays here. reporting live, anser hassan, abc 7 news. >> thank you. we are tracking new details in the asbay. police say they shot and killed a 56-year-old man at his home. the shooting happened in san leandro at a home on martin boulevard. sky 7 flew overhead as police surrounded the house yesterday afternoon. one officer shot a man on the front porch after an incident in that neighborhood. >> the caller that called 911 stated to the dispatcher that this individual was walking up and down the street wielding the machete and at one point dropped his pants and exposed his genitals to small children that were on the street as well.

>> police say officers tried to reason with the suspect for five minutes. they say he dropped the machete but thenlaed another object and pointed it at officers. a nine-year veteran of the department thought it was a gun and opened fire. the alameda county d.a.'s office is investigating the shooting. >> now on abc 7 news live desk update. this morning marks three years since the pulse nightclub shooting. i want to show you new video we have from overnight. vigils held even at 2:00 when the shooting happened and you'll remember a gunman murdered 49 people and hurt 53 others at the pulse nightclub in orlando. there are a series of events today to remember those victims. not only was there something held overnight but at noon bells will be tolled 49 times to commemorate the life of each person who died. and as i mentioned things are happening throughout today. there's going to be a large ceremony open to the public tonight at the closed down club. reggie, back to you. >> that was such a horrible day.

thank you, jessica. san francisco mayor london breed will face six challengers in the mayoral race. here are the candidates who filed to be on the ballot by the deadline. a public health worker, joel ventresca, wilma pang, robert jordan, a street minister along with paul robertson and gene david schu. mayor breed took the office after mayor lee's sudden death. happening today san francisco's plan to charge tourists on lombard street faces its first major test. the committee will vote on whether to implement the pilot program. it would require tourists to make a reservation and pay. transit officials are still working out the details including how much they would charge and how the reservations would be made. basically everything. ride share zones are creating

confusion at sfo and some long wait times. >> abc 7 news went to the airport as travelers and drivers navigated their way through this change. last week the ride share zone was moved to the fifth floor of the domestic garage. there was chaos sunday night with people waiting 30 minutes or longer. sfo says that is one of the busiest times. a vehicle stalled. >> you want to get in and out. >> it's difficult for me and the customer as well. >> people aren't happy. both uber and lyft blame the longer wait times on increased traffic at the airport. >> taxis are like -- >> they get to go right up to departure. >> come back to us. san francisco's beloved tamale lady will have a day dedicated to her legacy. she passed away last year. the 65-year-old was known for visiting mission district bars with her rolling cooler full of

tamales. according to "the examiner" hillary ronan is working on a proposal to honor here. let's take a look at what's going on outside. you can see we have a day that will see a little bit of the transition in the forecast. the closer you are to the coast is where we'll feel the sea breeze. let's talk about how mild it is this morning. 69 in walnut creek. everybody else in the low to mid-70s in the east bay until you get to concord, brentwood, upper 70s. the mid-80s in antioch and pittsburg. my goodness. low to mid-70s from san francisco, napa, vallejo, all the way down both stiides of th bay shore. one of the milder spots, 63 in santa rosa. the golden gate bridge. the worst setup. we have high clouds this morning, holding in the heat from yesterday and then we'll peel off the clouds and get

we're zoomed in so you can't seep the hundreds of people that are further down on the street. there are police here with riot gear as well. and there are some reports this morning of people being hurt. it's unclear how many people have been hospitalized but there have been ambulances out there taking folks away from the scene. they are protesting a bill that would allow people to be taken to hong kong china for trial. hong kong was guaranteed its own social, legal, and political systems for 50 years starting in 1997 when the former british colony was returned to china. the communist party has been forcing legal changes. protesters say they infringe upon that deal and obviously this is a big protest happening and making international headlines. former sailing coach faces

sentencing in the college cheating scandal. he admitted to accepting $610,000 in bribes from college applicants. prosecutors want him to serve 13 months. none of the students who paid him money actually got in to stanford and he did not pocket the money. it went to the sailing program. his sentencing is the first among the 22 people who pled guilty or have agreed to do so. >> the sales force transit center is going to reopen july 1st. sort of. officials shot it down in september after workers found cracks in two support beams. an independent panel signed off on repair work. while the building technically reopens in july buses won't be back that soon. >> we have to remove ceiling covers and inspect. we need time to put the covers back before we can allow them to use the bus plaza.

>> the park on the roof of the transit center will be open july 1st. this record setting heat has been especially hard on people who lost their power the past couple of days. >> thousands of people in cities like orinda, oakland and berkeley dealt with power outages yesterday. some neighborhoods had also lost power on monday. just misery this is a live look at out power outages reported right now. most are in the east bay and along the peninsula. more than 17,000 customers were without power at one time or another yesterday. that left a whole lot of people just to sweat it out without electricity. >> b.a.r.t. is trying to prevent heat related delays. trains were forced to slowdown because heat causes tracks to expand. some cars had to be pulled out of service because of overheating.
