going to go to jail. this is a good young man. that he was going to go to jail. >> reporter: don junior has been caught up in the russia investigation because of that trump tower meeting in 2016 which he set up expecting to get dirt on hillary clinton from the russian government. >> okay. let's put yourself in a position. you're a congressman. somebody comes up and says, hey. i have information on your opponent. do you call the fbi? i'll tell you what, i have seen a lot of things in my life. i don't think in my whole life i call the fbi. in my whole life. you don't call the fbi. >> the fbi director said that should happen. >> the fbi director is wrong because frankly, it doesn't happen like that in life. >> your campaign this time around, if foreigners, russia, china or someone else offers information on the opponent should they accept it or call the fbi? >> i think you do both. you might want to listen. there's nothing wrong with listening. if somebody called from a country, norway, we have information on your opponent, oh, i think i'd want to hear it. >> you want that kind of interference in our elections?

it isn't about politics. it's a threat to our national security, adding that an american president should not seek their aid and abet those who seek to undermine democracy. kamala harris says trump is sending a clear message to our adversaries. take a listen. >> to our adversaries around the world and fill in the blanks, north korea, russia fill in the blank. he's sending a signal to them, hey, come on in. >> reporter: meanwhile, bernie sanders e kirsten gillibrand and elizabeth warren all have a urge of the need to impeach the president. and trump welcomed the help and now he said he'd do it all over again. guys, she says now is the time to impeach donald trump. >> mary, that's all of the presidential candidates. this is also creating more debate in congress, likely to put more pressure on house speaker nancy pelosi. >> absolutely, george. we have been seeing the pressure already growing on the house

speaker. this is only likely to underscore that. she is in a very difficult spot. so far, she has been urging caution, instead, urging investigations, to fhesero president, only ratchet up the movement and to start impeachment. >> mary bruce, thanks very much. this is going to roll throughout the day. >> you had a few wild days with the president. >> it was something. in that exchange right there, i hadn't even asked at first about robert mueller. we were just talking about the oval office, talking about the beginning of the day. it is so clearly on his mind right now. he's so clearly angry about it, as you can see, and very, very defiant. we talked about a lot more including other aspects of the mueller investigation, obstruction of justice. the president took questions from me that he wouldn't take from robert mueller. we're going to have more on that later. >> much more in our next half-hour and also he revealed something on air force one? >> this is something we haven't seen. the president has a new design for air force one. he showed it to us. everyone is going to see it later in the show.

>> we will. all right. we're going to that storm that's hitting the east coast with rain. that's out here with us this morning, and we'll go to ginger who is on the steps of the museum with the very latest. good morning to you, ginger. >> hey. good morning to all of you. philly showing off, still looking good even in this torrential rain. we have been enduring and will, for the next three to five hours. let's look at the video coming out of charleston, south carolina. this moved up from the gulf really. this is more than 4 inches, a daily record for charleston, flooding the streets there. now it is really centered on the mid-atlantic. we threw the lightning bolts on there just to showcase along that low pressure system from delaware to maryland you may be seeing some of the lightning with this. the flood advisories including dover and on. ere goesne o robin, another shot of thunderstorms from pennsylvania along the east coast. but for now, we'll head back to you.

>> and i found out contact lenses and the rain do not mix. hence the glasses. thank you, ginger. more from you. but we have new developments now in the shooting of former red sox legend david ortiz. six people including the alleged gunman now in custody, and police say they found the gun used in the attack. our chief national affairs correspondent tom llamas is there in boston for us with the very latest. good morning, tom. >> reporter: robin, good morning to you, and this is far from over. there is an urgent manhunt right now in the dominican republic for even more suspects, including one nicknamed the surgeon, and we have learned overnight, that person, the surgeon, is also wanted here in the u.s. in a separate case, but a similar crime, conspiracy to commit attempted homicide. this new video shows just how close david ortiz came to dying. his assassin in the baseball cap walking right up to him, shooting him in the back. the single shot sending ortiz to

the floor, and clubgoers right their seats, this morning, the alleged gunman, 25-year-old rolfi ferriera cruz is behind bars. police say this is the gun he used, holding it up during a news conference where they announced a total of six people have been arrested and they're still looking for more. investigators say the men agreed to kill big papi for less than $8,000. the alleged plan involved these two hyundais parked in front of each other. you can see one man getting out of one of the cars. a motorcycle nearby, the alleged getaway vehicle, shown moments later with two men on it, driving down the street moments before the ambush. police say the suspect stalked ortiz while he was out at a nightclub in santo domingo on sunday night, shooting him while he was outside on the patio. ortiz in boston, where we played for the red sox and back home in the dominican republic. though police say they know who tried to kill big papi, they have yet to say why.

ortiz's wife tells us he is recovering here in the hospital, but he has to maintain himself in the intensive care unit. fans all week all around boston have been wearing big papi jerseys. they tell me they've been praying for the slugger and we're expecting as soon as he's better, as soon as he's stronger, they're likely to have a big welcome back party at fenway, george. >> looking forward to that. tom, thank you very much. now to that breaking news overseas. the u.s. navy is rushing to help two oil tankers in oman. this comes amid rising tensions with iran. joining us is chief global affairs anchor martha raddatz. good morning, martha. >> reporter: good morning, george. the u.s. navy received two separate distress calls this morning, 45 minutes apart, after reports of explosions on the tankers and then rushed the "uss bainbridge," a guided missile destroyer, to help. it happened in international waters between the coasts of iran and oman, near the straits of hormuz.

that major waterway for the world's oil. this was in the same waters where four tankers were sabotaged last month, but the damage from the suspected attack this morning appears to be far more serious. the crew was forced to evacuate from one of the ships. and reports are that at least one of the tankers is on fire. the u.s. blamed iran for the sabotage of the ships last month, a claim in which iran denied. this occurred while japan's prime minister was meeting with iran's ayatollah to ease tensions in the region, but this will surely raise tensions even further. michael? >> definitely tensions will rise. thank you so much, martha. we're going to turn now to that thrilling stanley cup final, a moment that was 52 years in the making, the st. louis blues winning game seven, beating boston, capturing their first championship ever. abc's alex perez in st. louis where fans were celebrating late into the night. hopefully they can't keep you

up, alex. good morning. >> reporter: hey, good morning, michael. as you mentioned, this has been a moment five decades in the making. to say that people here are happy, that would be a huge understatement. take a look, the st. louis blues celebrating their first ever stanley cup title, beating the nhl powerhouse boston bruins in a decisive game seven. the blues capping off a comeback for the ages going from dead last as recently as january, to now flying high as hockey's top team. the celebrations among the blues faithful stretching all the way back home here to st. louis, huge crowds packing in to watch the game and celebrate at that final buzzer. but the most touching celebration may have been right on the ice in boston. the blues inviting 11-year-old superfan laila anderson who suffers from a rare life-threatening immune disease to the game. and after they won, she got to have her own special moment with the cup. the team now making its way back home for the big victory parade. michael.

convicted. >> i'm so grateful to have my life back. >> reporter: her ordeal quickly spiraled into a frenzy. portraying amanda as an american beauty with a dark secret throughout her trial and incarceration. amanda and her former boyfriend, raffaele sollecito, were convicted of murdering her roommate meredith kercher. in 2011, both of their convictions overturned. amanda freed, returning back to america. then in 2015, a stunning reversal, knox convicted of murder all over again. shortly after she sat down with robin no 2014 saying she never would willingly go back. >> you said that you would never willingly go back, they would have to catch you first and you'd go kicking and screaming. >> yeah, i'm going to fight this until the very end. >> reporter: and she did, found not guilty a second time in 2015. now amanda penning an op-ed and medium saying she's going back because, "i have been invited by the italy innocence project to

speak about wrongful convictions and trial in media," adding, "it may make a great story, but it's still their life. as a journalist myself, i feel a moral duty, and i respect that." amanda knox writes and produces a podcast called the truth about true crime with her fiance. another man, rudy guede, is currently serving a 16-year sentence for the murder of meredith kercher. guys. >> all right, whit. thank you. yeah. now we're going to turn to the beach alert this morning. a sting ray scare at a beach in california. about a dozen people were injured. let's go to abc's victor oquendo with the latest. good morning, victor. >> reporter: good morning, michael. you can find sting rays in inches of water off the shoreline. everyone we've heard from, they've all said the same thing, including an expert who's been stung himself, it felt like they were on fire. >> reporter: the warning for beachgoers this morning. >> it's like fire, like my foot is on fire, and it hurts so bad. >> reporter: lifeguards say

between 10 to 15 people were stung by sti o morning. while california round rays are known to feed in the shallow waters, burying they're hard to see, experts say the temperatures are to blame. >> it's definitely the worst pain i've felt. >> reporter: stingray tails are covered in venom, hence the name. and they range in size from a few inches in width to the manta ray which can grow to 23 feet wide. in 2006, world famous crocodile hunter steve irwin died after a stingray's jagged barb punctured his chest. but experts say the majority of stings are not fatal. if there are stingrays nearby or the threat of them, what's the best way to enter the water? >> enter the water, but people have a tendency to make big crashing steps. you actually want to shuffle. i'm going to do it backwards. shuffle forward, that's making a

>> you're talking about a really high-poverty area, an area i would consider to be a food desert, where people don't have access to high-quality food. >> reporter: and it was charles who began a weekly handout of fresh produce. >> a lot of the students here don't have transportation. imagine having to walk to school without eating nve vegetables. you see the change in the student. how they talk. how they walk. how they interact with others. >> reporter: for mr. charles, no task too small. no life crisis too big. >> i had a girl who had just had her 19th birthday which made her ineligible for child services. suddenly, she was homeless. there's charles with an answer. a phone call later and she had a place to go. >> some people wouldn't probably care, but he cared enough to make sure i had somewhere to sleep. >> reporter: jay dillard couldn't afford to go to prom, but charles took care of everything. >> the suit, the shoes, the haircut and a ticket. he was like, i got everything. i was like, wow, okay.

>> reporter: the mr. charles stories are countless. >> he always gets on me about going to college and going to class and making sure my grades are good. >> he became that male role model that i never had in my life. >> so some kids, he's the only father figure that they know. >> reporter: charles' own son sees the value of his father's gifts. >> i'm a black man growing up in the city of philadelphia, statistically, it's hard to make it without a father. >> i would like to tell him that i love him. i never told him that before. >> charles cares. he cares so truly, so genuinely. >> and so it touches me because you see these children. they're in and they're out and you know they are struggling. you know their history, and you know they're coming from, most times, bad homes, and to have people be it my husband, whoever, who are willing to go the extra mile to make sure their needs are met, is awesome. >> i did it, i appreciate everything he did for me to make
