>> just kept working hard, working hard. and had my mind set on this goal. this is what i play basketball for. all summer during the season and happy to have my hard work paid off. >> a big game, a big series and we'll have much more on the postgame celebrations later that half hour. rising tensions between the u.s. and iran playing out in the waters of the persian gulf region. >> conflicting accounts have emerged as to what caused a tanker to erupt in flames and burn for hours off the coast of iran. another tanker was also apparently attacked. iran has denied any involvement. >> new images released which could be key evidence against iran. abc's elizabeth hur is here with the latest. elizabeth. >> reporter: kenneth and lana, good morning. those new images coming from u.s. officials who maintain iran is to blame and the attacks were unprovoked. that claim according to iranian officials is unfounded. this morning, u.s. central command releasing new video showing what it claims are

iranian forces removing an unexploded mine from the hull of a japanese tanker along with what u.s. officials are new pictures showing where the mines were placed. that japanese tanker one of the two vessels crippled by iran according to secretary of state mike pompeo. >> this assessment is based on intelligence, the weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation. >> reporter: the crew of the japanese tanker seen here receiving treatment from american sailors aboard "the uss bainbridge" that according to u.s. central command beat any iranian patrol boat also racing to the scene to try to get there first. an iranian ship did recover 23 members of the other tanker that was attacked. the iranians later showing pictures of that crew watching tv in an iranian port city. the attacks occurred in the gulf of oman about 45 minutes apart, the same waterway where u.s.

officials have also blamed iran for attacking four tankers last month. >> these are intended to disrupt, to drive up the price of oil and insurance rates which benefits iran. >> reporter: but this morning iran denying any involvement. the foreign minister tweeting in part, the u.s. immediately jumped to make allegations against iran without a shred of factual or circumstantial evidence. and there are new reports this morning that crew members on the japanese tanker saw flying objects just before the attack suggesting the ship wasn't damaged by mines which would contradict what the u.s. military has said. so still a lot of questions but the u.s. making it clear where they stand. kenneth. >> the back and forth continues. elizabeth hur, thank you. president trump is showing no signs of complying with a federal watch dog's recommendation that he fire one of his closest advisers, kellyanne conway. the watch dog says conway has repeatedly violated the hatch act which is an ethics law that bans federal employees from engaging in political activity while at work. conway's supporters call the law

outdated and say it's being used to unfairly target the trump administration. the watch dog has no power to enforce the president to take action. sarah sanders is out. the white house press secretary is heading home to arkansas. she has three children under the age of 10 and says her most important job is being a mother. abc's trevor ault has more on her departure and what president trump wants her to do next. >> reporter: one of the president's most ardent and vocal supporters stepping down from the white house. the president announcing sarah sanders, his longtime press secretary, will be leaving her position at the end of june. >> she's done an incredible job. we've been through a lot together and she's tough. but she's good. >> reporter: sanders has served as the president's lead spokesperson since 2017. in that time becoming one of the closest members of his inner circle. >> this has been the honor of a lifetime, the opportunity of a lifetime. i couldn't be prouder to have had the opportunity to serve my country and particularly to work for this president.

>> reporter: sanders' tenure has not been without controversy. her press briefings often taking a contentious tone with no official briefings being held at all, only appearing for a gaggle on the white house driveway. she was also named in the mueller report, reportedly telling investigators a claim she had made about fbi officials being happy the president fired director james comey was untrue. she would later describe that as a slip of the tongue. the president calling sarah sanders a warrior and thanking her for what he sees as a job well done encouraging her to run for governor in her home state of arkansas. trevor ault, abc news, washington. >> our thanks to trevor. three more suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting of david ortiz. several suspects were led in a courtroom in the dominican republic. one of them has linked to a series of armed robberies in new jersey. another who is still on the run is also wanted for a shooting in pennsylvania.

officials say the men were paid nearly $8,000 to target ortiz. prosecutors want to detain them for up to one year as they investigate the case. ortiz is recovering in a boston hospital. his wife says he's in guarded condition but is staying optimistic. big papi even likes the flavor of his hospital toothpaste. a major new development in the flint, michigan, water scandal. the state's attorney general has dismissed all charges including involuntary manslaughter. the office is launching a new investigation saying the first one was flawed. the crisis erupted back in 2014 when the source of the city's water supply was changed to save money. the replacement supply was tainted with lead which has been linked to 12 deaths. time now for a look at your weather for this friday morning. a tornado touched down in southern new jersey last night as a powerful storm swept through the area and kicked up some debris, but no reports of any significant imagine. meanwhile in pennsylvania two people died after they were struck by lightning thursday at

the bear that's been roaming the streets of the city for five tense days has finally been caught. a game warden used a tranquilizer to safely take it back to the woods outside the city. in new hampshire a bald eagle has been making headlines. video posted shows him taking a swim. unclear why he decided to take a dip, likely to get lunch. amanda knox in italy for the first time since 2015 when her conviction for killing her roommate was overturned. knox is attending a conference organized by the italy innocent project. she's taking part in a seminar on wrongful convictions. a lawyer for the kercher family calls it inappropriate saying the unsolved murderer of concern is a tragedy. anita hill says she could support biden for the white house. hill has criticized how biden handled the clarence thomas confirmation hearings in 1991 when hill accused thomas of sexual harassment. biden allowed her to face

intense questioning from the all male senate committee. but hill tells nbc biden's past does not disqualify him as a candidate and she doubts the criticism has hurt him. >> i'm not even sure that anything i've said has actually hurt joe biden's campaign. he still is leading in the polls against donald trump and really all of the other candidates for -- on the democratic ticket. i want our leaders to stand up and say, i understand that this is a serious problem, that women are not safe in the workplace, are not safe in our schools, they're not safe on our streets and that we are going to use the government resources to eliminate the problem. >> before biden entered the race he called hill and said that he regretted how she was treated. an important recall this morning, king arthur is recalling more than 14,000 cases of flour because of possible e. coli contamination. the bags that are affected are

>> a second accuser has come forward and josh einiger was there as the actor faced the judge. >> reporter: this video unearthed and posted by tmz appears to show the moment manhattan prosecutors say cuba gooding jr. groped a woman. he's sitting with his girlfriend when the alleged victim sits down next to them and gooding appears to touch her leg and then her breast before either she pushes his hand away or he pulling her hand away and kisses it. just four nights later the actor appeared in manhattan arraignment court and pleaded not guilty of charges he groped her. >> show me the money. >> reporter: the 51-year-old academy award winning star of "jerry maguire" had been out jun night at the magic hour, a rooftop bar. it was later that night the woman called police. there is gooding who had flown back to l.a. returned to new york today to surrender voluntarily to the nypd where detectives who specialize in sex crimes placed him under arrest. mark heller is his lawyer.

>> i frankly am shocked and horrified that this case is being prosecuted. all i ask of you is that you judge for yourself, look at the video and make your own choice rather than relying on the overzealous policing in this matter. >> reporter: gooding is facing two different charges, forcible touching and third degree sexual abuse, both misdemeanors. the judge released him on his own recognizance. he'll be back in court later this month. josh einiger, abc news. as the worst measles outbreak since 1992 continues to spread new york has ended the religious exception for school vaccination requirements. governor andrew cuomo signed a law repealing the exception saying he understands religious freedom

but vax is outweighed. new york has been hit the hardest. a hiker rescued after spending six days stranded alone in the arkansas wilderness is now speaking out. joshua mcclatchy gave an interview to wfaa. he was on a solo hike to celebrate his barrettday but he got lost and texted his mother saying he had bad reception and couldn't make phone calls. finally after six days search crews used infrared technology to find him. the terrain so treacherous a rock fell on his head and said he learned a lot about himself and about nature. >> when it comes to the wild life, i learned very quickly that the ants were my nemesis. when you're in the mountains and you're yelling, everything echoes so you can't tell where the original sound came from. my outlook is just so different now. i'm so grateful. >> he says throughout the ordeal his goal was to follow streams to get water and stay hydrated. back now to the nba finals and that thrilling finish. the warriors had a shot at the it's their first nba title.
