60 in san jose. from the airport, 44 minute delays at sfo. the peninsula, in the upper 60s later on. san mateo, low 70s redwood city. right now in the east bay, upper 50s to low 60s with the cloud cover. san francisco, you will be below average, many cities today continue that trend. slightly warmer than yesterday. numbers, cool up the coast, warmer inland just by a few degrees today. developing news on the peninsula, all lanes of highway 101 in redwood city are back only after multiple crashes. the first happened just after 2:00 in the north bound lanes. the chp says a wrong-way driver died after hitting another vehicle. the other driver has major injuries. 20 minutes later on the southbound side there were two separate crashes involving drivers who stopped to look at the scene of the first collision. the chp says the first in the first of those accidents a car rear-ended another. a woman got out but was hit by

another vehicle. she is in critical condition. the driver of the car that hit her has been arrested on suspicion of dui. a brazen remove, that's how vacaville police are describing the crew that stole $8,000 worth of merchandise from an outlet store in broad daylight. it happened a week ago at the tommy hilfiger store. police are asking for your help in the investigation. we have the story. >> reporter: vacaville police want you to see this video to help their investigation and find the thieves. employees and customers are in shock as the first thief fills her bag with clothes. you can see another walk by with arms overflowing with hanging clothes. then three people casually walk out of the store with stolen merchandise while alarms sound. >> scary when they enter a store like that in the middle of the morning. it was a sunday morning. and just began loading up bags and bags of property that didn't belong to them.

>> reporter: these thieves were ready. they put a plastic bag on the rear license plate like this so the getaway car couldn't be identified. they walked into the store with a bunch of empty shopping bags ready to fill up. three men and two women were recorded on a cell phone. nobody tried to stop them because of a hands-off security policy. plus police say they were scared. >> they try to put a fear in these people when they are committing these thefts so they don't get interfered with. >> reporter: i showed the cell phone video to shoppers. they all found it disturbing. >> shocking. i mean i don't understand how keep just can just walk into stores and just take stuff. it makes you feel unsafe anywhere you go. what if they have weapons? >> it is bad for consumers. i think it is bad for so many different people that want to come in here and buy stuff, people are coming in here to

steal. it is not fair. >> police are working with fairfield and napa police because thieves hit major stores in those sisters recently as well. in the newsroom, abc7 news. a disturbing case in the east bay. a concord man is being held in the contra costa county jail in an effort to commit a mass shooting at a jewish temple and kill police officers. police took the man into custody after receiving a continue frye the fbi about threats being made in an online chat room. officers made the arrest earlier this month but just revealed the threats. investigators found an illegal semiautomatic rifle at his home and camouflaged clothing and nazi literature. two bay area men are under arrest after a police chase led to a deadly crash. the two man have been booked on multiple charges, including homicide and attempted homicide.

modesto police say the men sped away when officers tried to pull them over yesterday morning. police say the men fired shots at the officers pursuing them. the car jumped a curb and crashed near a taco track. two bystanders were killed. police say the suspects ran but were quickly arrested. the car they were in was reported as stolen. activists came together across the bay area calling for president trump to be impeached. here's cornell barnard with the story. >> who are we going to lock up? >> trump! >> reporter: at san jose city hall this group joined others across the country calling for the impeach men of donald trump. >> we need to hold him accountable. he's not above the law. >> reporter: in san rafael, this group held signs on fourth street with the same message. >> democracy itself is at take. >> what do we want? >> impeachment! >> reporter: this group of 50 activists rallied near the federal building in oakland.

>> those lies materially impaired the investigation of russian interference. >> reporter: some took turns reading from the mueller report alleging russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. >> we are calling on our leaders to step up and sign that document to remove donald trump. >> reporter: but house speaker nancy pelosi is backing off from the effort saying it is not even close to enough support in the house. >> that's why we elected a congress, to represent us. >> i think the democrats are beating a dead horse. >> reporter: the chairman of san francisco's republican party believes impeachment is a losing venture. >> it's been going on for three years we found no russia collusion. we found no real evidence of a crime that the president has committed. so there's really not a lot of grounds for impeachment. >> reporter: some activists disagree saying they will keep

inland by two to four degrees. throughout the morning hours we will climb lieu the 60s. by noontime, low 70s and 60s inland. partial clearly at the coast. a pleasant start to the work week. a look at that in a few minutes. in the east bay, illegal fireworks, high winds, and already dry grasses and fuels made for a nearly disastrous combination. abc7 news reporter laura anthony has the story from antioch. >> i heard a firework go off. we were wondering you know what was that? >> reporter: first there were popping noises. then the sound of people south shouting. finally a plume of thick black smoke that prompted joe bass and his son to jump into packs. >> me and him looked at each other and decide to fun down here because i was hearing screams of "fire". and we so both ran down this way. >> i ran over to these houses over here and knocked on their

windows and doors. and then i hopped their fence when i couldn't get in their backyard and grabbed their gar ten hose and started putting out -- the fence was on fire. so i put out the fence and put our their brushes. >> reporter: the fire district confirms illegal fireworks started the two alarm plays, a fire that damaged one home and threatened at least six others. a witness told abc7 news he saw a group of men at a community park setting off fireworks, and then suddenly the dry field across the street erupted in flames. >> stupid. especially in california to do that. forget about summertime. they shouldn't do that. >> reporter: this fire serves as a frightening example of how dangerous conditions are already and how the careless use of fireworks could potentially lead to disaster. >> it only takes one bottle rocket. one fire cracker, you know. it only took one m-80 or whatever that was to burn down everybody's fences. >> reporter: in antioch, laura

anthony, abc7 news. starting tomorrow, cal fire is success spending burn permits in six counties because of high fire danger including sonoma, napa, lake and o'solano counties. residential outdoor burning of granchs and leaves will be banned. samplefire lbs allowed within camp grounds and on private part. cal fire says the public can't let its guard down. homeowners are advised to clear dead vegetation and plant fire resistant plants. >> police need your help catching a killer after a freeway shooting. in vacaville a man died after someone shot him along east bound i-80. he was shot just after 6:00:last night. he died at the scene. investigators say he suffered at least one gunshot wound. chp officers want to hear from anyone who may have seen the

shooting. we have seen the number of illegal car stunts picking up in recent weeks including this one just a couple of week ago in the middle of the afternoon. if caught, drivers can be arrested and have their tokes towed. sideshows can be extremely dangerous and can end in violence with spectators getting hurt. a family in arizona has take ten first step in suing phoenix police over a confrontation that sparked outrage. witnesses recorded what happened when police restrain dre von aims outside a store. an officer pushed him into a patrol car and then kicked him. a second officer pointed his gun at aims' car. that's when this man's pregnant wife and their two daughters stepped out. he was accused of shoplifting a doll from a dollar store. >> my daughters will never be the same anymore or feel the same about the police department. >> i assure you that this incident is not representative of the majority of phoenix

police officers who serve this city. >> the aims family has filed a $10 million claim against phoenix police. the officers involved in the incident are now on desk duty as an investigation takes place. a battle is brewing over the future of burning man. organizers propose limiting attendance to 100,000 people. but the bureau of land management is recommending to keep it at 80,000. burning man is now working to get a ten-year permit renewal for space in the black rock desert. security could be an issue. the blm currently uses a third of its officers to patrol burning man. fit grows to 100,000, that would require the force the use half of its officers. nearly a year after her stunning primary victory congresswoman ocasio-cortez appeared on "this week" for her first sunday morning interview since taking office. the congresswoman says the pressure to impeach president trump grows every day. she also says that democrats need to start an impeachment

7 on your side's michael finney tells us what happened next. >> reporter: deborah banks was in her yard unaware of the disaster happening inside until she looked up. >> and i see all of this water pouring out of my downstairs window. i run inside. i see this huge bubble on my ceiling. >> reporter: the bathroom ceiling was bulging from an upstairs leak. >> and water was dripping down the ceiling. >> reporter: deborah figured now was the time to use her home warranty from american home shield. >> that's for emergencies so i called them up. >> reporter: however, the operator put her frantic call on hold while they are ceiling kept bulging. >> i am trying to explain this is an emergency situation my ceiling is about to cave in. >> reporter: the warranty company did not send help as she hoped. >> she said somebody would all the me within 48 hours. i said i don't have 48 hours i have maybe 15 minutes. deborah asked for a supervisor. >> she puts me on hold. i get disconnected.

>> reporter: dab re couldn't wait and found her own plumber? luckily. >> reporter: he charged her $350. deputy re put in a claim with american home shield. >> sorry it is in your contract. the company wouldn't way saying the plumber was not in their network. she has been paying for the warranty for 15 years. >> hardly ever used the service. they can't come through. >> reporter: she says when a customer requests expedited service we work for a solution such as turning to of the water supply. we will then search for a plumber to come within 24 hours. in this situation her call was disconnected before we could do that.

(laughing) - okay, we're standing here at kitchen experts digikitchen. it looks beautiful, but i have to ask, what did it look like before? - i am so excited to show you this first kitchen. the keely's had a lot of room, but it was dated and just not functional at all. valerie couldn't even fit a thanksgiving turkey in the oven. you gotta see this transformation. take a look. - colin and valerie keely, beautiful, is it not? - oh my gosh, we absolutely love it. - i can tell. - a little obsessed with it. - i'm obsessed with it. so i mean we're all obsessed with your new kitchen. but i gotta know, why did you think you needed a new kitchen? because the house is beautiful. - well, when you'd walk in, things weren't in the places that they should be. we had a bi-level island with a stove top and the island with the downdraft that didn't work. - mmm, not good. - it was broken. and over here was the refrigerator. - oh no. - and we had a small microwave, small oven underneath. we couldn't even fit a turkey in, so we never had - thanksgiving? - thanksgiving turkeys.

- that sucks! - yeah. (laughing) and we just, the flow was wrong, - yeah. - and just, it was just tile and grout and cabinets were falling apart. we had a couple of contractors come to the house. we received a couple of bids. and just ... - didn't work out? - eight weeks, extensive, and colin was watching tv one day. - so colin, you're the reason for the new kitchen! - called it on a whim. i wasn't quite sure whether or not, to believe it or not, (laughing) but i did, i called in, and johnny came out, and you know, the next week, and it was quick and everything's been great. - well first off, there's the free design consultation, right? so you thought, "hey, we gotta just call" "because you know, we'll have him come out." and that's fantastic. - i mean he literally came out and he was here probably 45 minutes. and i had cad drawings in front of me. i could start to visualize things right then and there, which i think was helpful for valerie too to see kind of what the changes would be and where we can have ... - yeah, 'cause you wanna see what that new kitchen's gonna look like, right? - right. - you can't just go, "okay, i'm gonna do it," not knowing what the final's product gonna be. - right. - that's the great thing about kitchen experts. alright, so take me through the process

because i know you guys worked with other contractors and subcontractors and all that. so take us through the kitchen experts process. you know, the demo and everything. so valerie, you start. - i said one of the deal breakers was that i said it cannot take eight weeks. we have four children. i said i cannot be without a kitchen for eight weeks. - yeah, no, no, no, no. - and so johnny said, "i can do it in three weeks." and i said, "i kinda don't believe you," (laughing) "but let's try it." and so literally, it was done in three weeks. - wow. - i was amazed. i was so happy. - yeah. - and it was so quick. the guys came in. saul and his crew were just amazing, came in, demoed within a day, - wow, that's good. - i mean, he came home from work, everything was good - everything was gone? - everything was gone. - and the other nice thing is that annie and the home office at kitchen experts would send us a daily if not every other day email after saul and his crew leave. and so the next morning, we would know. she'd text or email and say, "they're gonna tile this morning," or "they gonna put in the sink," and stuff like that. so, it was a nice kinda update cause we kinda check off along the way, you know, which was helpful for us.

- and you guys did electrical too. was it great that you didn't have any permits to worry about? they did everything one-stop-shop. you didn't have to worry about a thing, colin? - yeah, they took care of everything, which was great. they went down to the city, pulled the permits, came through here, and that's the nice thing, the way that they are able to do it in such a short time frame cause everyone worked for the company. - yeah, yeah, exactly. - so the company was so it's not like you're calling a different sub to come out and do the electrical. i mean that's part of your crew that shows up to your kitchen, which is fantastic. so they're all here, day one and i know what they're supposed to do. so it's perfect. - and the price quote, you know, they gave you one price, they stuck to it. how was that? - yeah, it was literally so that was the other thing with contractors. they kinda bid and give you a range and stuff like that. so it was down to the t. everything that was on that original contract was exactly as we went through it. that's exactly what the price was. - are you happy that your husband was watching tv? - i'm thrilled. - even though he's so lazy, "get off the couch!" - oh my, i was thrilled that he was on the couch, (laughing) eating a snack - having a beer. - watching tv, yes, i'm thrilled. - good job, colin!

(laughing) so as time went on, - yeah. - we started making changes. and my kitchen is very narrow, and it had the traditional garden window. - oh yeah. - and in discovery bay, our houses are so close together that mainly, i just wanted to open up the kitchen. so i got rid of the garden window and put in a bay window, - it's gorgeous. - and now i can see the bay without standing in my sink. (laughing) and looking out and seeing, "gosh, i do live by the water." (laughing) - so it was time to change the kitchen. - yeah. - i mean, i used to like leg warmers, but they're not anymore. - right. - so you know, when it's time, it's time, right? - yeah, but keep them, they'll be back. - oh, (laughing) good idea 'cause i like them. they're kinda funny. alright, so let's talk about the process. well, first off, why kitchen experts? how'd you get? - there's a god named dean gary.

(laughing) - that's right, that's right. this kitchen here is more of a french provincial look. - yeah. - it's got the beautiful dental molding. - love that. - it's got that decorative corbel supports. it's got the roman legs here that just add ... - oh yeah, little details. - a touch of elegance. - there're samples all over the showroom i notice, and appliances, so ... - right. - what about all that? - well, we always start with the cabinets. - right. - that is our main focal point. - okay. - then we coordinate around that. - okay. - so next i would gently pick out their granite. - right. - from the granite, let's look at the floor. so we have a nice contrast. - oh yeah, the floors, that's right. - then, the backsplash, which ties everything into it. - oh, yes. - absolutely. and of course, i'm gonna consult you about appliances as well. - absolutely, and so when they come to the showroom, they can see everything. they can see samples of backsplash, samples of cabinets, samples of everything, right? - that's right, one-stop-shop. - one-stop-shop, you don't have to go anywhere else. okay, i love that. and the granite yard also is very long granite. you have so much granite. - we have granite and quartz and marble. we're really proud of our inventory. we have over about 2,500 slabs to choose from.

- we didn't, we moved in and decided to live with it for awhile. - oohh. - but we had to do something. - yeah. - so we pulled down some cabinets and we painted them all red. - oohh, i know we have before and after pictures of that. and i know what people are saying about those red cabinets, and they're pretty bad. how'd you find kitchen experts then? - well, sunday morning... - yeah. - moments ago, i'm sitting at the couch with my coffee and watching home improvement shows. - yeah. - and flipped around and saw the kitchen experts show and thought, "well, we need a kitchen." - because you got a free consultation, am i right? - absolutely. - we got a free consultation, so i texted the picture of my red kitchen. (laughing) and i got a call from johnny. - probably pretty quickly cause they saw those red cabinets and were like, "oh my gosh, these poor people." - within a day, i heard from johnny. - really? okay. - and within three days, he was here. - not only that, he brought a couple of people with him, tim bergeron, he did some of the drawings, sat here, right at the old table and counter here. and we had him design it right in front of us. - oh wow, that's great. - he had drawings, he had a small printer, and he had drawings literally for us,

3d dimensional drawings that we're, - wow. - we're gonna take a look at and see what what would actually fit size-wise in the kitchen, so it was fantastic. - one of the other appeals to kitchen experts - so when he came in, he said, "i can help you design," and we said, "great, 'cause we don't know what we want." we told him what was in our head, and then he came up with some interesting ideas, that i would never have thought of. - color patterns especially. i mean johnny's eye for color patterns was just amazing. - yeah. - we had no ... vision of what we wanted to have inside the kitchen, what the work was gonna be as far as color patterns and so forth. and so, we got the opportunity to head down to kitchen experts' - that's right, the showroom. - showroom. - what was that like? what was that whole experience like? - oh, it was wonderful. i mean just a variety of, a whole variety of different stones and granite, cabinets, different styles. - alright, so take me through the process, right. the demo, and did you have subcontractors? did they do the paperwork? what happened? - so this process was quite easy.

we had done another kitchen a couple of years ago with a different company, and that company used subcontractors. - oh, no. - and no project management. - oh, that's not good. - so it took a very long time. it was messy, people didn't show up. they would substitute people in the middle of the job. and it was really frustrating. you never know who was gonna be in your house at one time. - absolutely. - you didn't know, you didn't know when they'd show up, when they'd leave, you had no idea. with this process, we got a call from the project manager at the beginning of the job, and she laid out the schedule. - okay. - she told us who our foreman was going to be. - okay. - so luis was our foreman, and he showed up on day one. he introduced us to the people that would be doing the job. he told us when they'd be here. they show up on time every day. - i do have to ask a couple more things really quickly. when johnny came in and showed you what he was, how he's gonna make your kitchen, he gave you a price. gave you that or a quote. - he gave us a quote. - alright, so how did that work? did it ever change? - it never changed. - oh, wow, never changed so you got that one price then? - that was the one price, and they stuck to the price. - alright next up, we're gonna meet another homeowner,

take a look at this transformation. - now we're here with the homeowner, zubin anary, of this beautiful kitchen, and it is fantastic. but first i wanna ask, why did you need a kitchen, zubin? - our old kitchen was outdated. it came with the house. it was very late '90s. - oh yeah. - had a small, little island, a little seating area. it wasn't, it didn't, we didn't feel comfortable in it. so we decided that we needed a new kitchen. - we're seeing the before and afters, and you had the brown cabinets and all that cool stuff, just wasn't, didn't set the house on fire, right? - brown cabinets, black countertop, the cabinets were also getting old too. it just was not good. - alright, so then, how did you come in contact with kitchen experts? - well, that was the best part. so we were looking around different kitchen manufacturers out there and what not. and we couldn't find one that was great. one of our neighbors happened to had their kitchen done by kitchen experts a year ago. so we've been, actually took a look at it, and we're amazed, and at that point, i called the 1-800 number, and i asked exclusively for johnny, who's the same designer for, - oh, lead designer johnny. - for my neighbor, and here we are.

- that was it. - that was it. - and so what happened? johnny came over? what happened after that? - johnny came over, we started talking about the designs. he looked at what we had. he started asking a few questions, what we wanted. and then lo and behold, you know, a little by later, we had a design. from there, we're sort of picking out the options, and you know, we've got an amazing kitchen now. - when i came in immediately i thought, "oh that's interesting granite." but this is, i mean do you love this? - oh, we do love this, this is quartzite, we ... - quartzite. - in the beginning, we're looking at something like, something like marble, but you know, really what we discovered was it didn't fit how we wanted to work in the island. so johnny mentioned quartzite. we did a little research on it, and lo and behold, this is what we wanted. magically, this showed up one day, and this is exactly what we were looking for. - ping! - and it's perfect. - alright, so take me through the process and how great it was with kitchen experts. once they came in, you got the design. now, the process starts. - yes. - so boom, tell me about it. - so once you got the design, we started picking out the different things. we spoke about the quartzite. we went into the kitchen experts' location up here in pleasanton. - right. - and we started looking at the different cabinets, the colors, the types of cabinets.

that availability when you need it, but you don't have to use it if you don't need it. >> so, lots of options to choose from. >> lots of options. >> great. now, i understand that you recently went to a remodel, correct? >> yes, we did a great master-bath reno. >> so let's take a look at that bathroom before the re-bath renovation. >> we're at a home in concord in a client's master bathroom. you might say, "oh, it doesn't look that bad," but the client really wants to get rid of maintenance problems like tile and grout on their countertops. we're gonna replace that with quartz. on the floor, we've got carpeting, and most people don't want carpeting in their bathroom. too hard to clean. too much stuff can get in there. we're also gonna be adding nice, updated, rectangular undermount sinks, just make it easier to clean the counter. all-new fixtures, which will really update the bathroom. lighting is gonna totally be changed. and we'll actually have two new vanities here with a tower in the middle for storage, so it's gonna make the bathroom

a lot more functional. then we'll take out this tub with this huge surround that's really bulky. we'll put another tub in, but it's just not gonna take up as much room, so we can make the vanities bigger. and then, take out the tile and grout that's in the shower. and we'll replace this with a frameless shower door. i cannot wait to see this renovation, and you don't want to miss it when we come back. >> we decided with the bathroom that we had 'cause we've been in the house 10 years. and the bathroom was adequate, but the shower area especially was very small. we had a sunken tub that we never used. we never did try to use the tub because you had to step down almost 2 1/2 feet to get in. there were no rails or anything. so once you were in, i mean, you were stuck unless somebody could help you get back out. the floors were tile, like a ceramic tile. very cold to walk on. safety hazard there, again,

was one of those things. and when you got up during the middle of the night to go in and use the bathroom and you walked across that cold floor, it wasn't fun. when re-bath showed us the different styles of flooring that they could have, and we ended up with an armstrong tile, we decided that's really what we wanted to have down, and we have noticed a tremendous difference in just walking across the flo. it's not slippery, it's not dangerous, and we're very thankful for what the staff recommended. we had the sunken tub totally removed. we had the shower taken out. we had a new floor put in. we had a new vanity, countertop, and sinks put in. weept the original vanity that we had. had a new toilet put in, as well. and we had people that would visit, and we didn't want anybody to get hurt. it wasn't that we were embarrassed by what the bathroom looked like, but at the same time, we wanted something that we could be proud of.

from the vanities, which are at a much lower height, which is really annoying, especially this homeowner is tall. >> you don't have to bend over as much. >> right. it's not such a hassle to wash your face. the countertops here were real small tiles, so lots of grout. >> so hard to clean. >> so hard to clean. cracking, chipping -- just a mess. so, now this single, solid surface quartz that is beautiful and much more user-friendly, right? >> well, not only is it easy to clean, it just has such a clean look to it. >> it does, and it matches sort of everything in the bathroom. before, they had round sinks that had sort of a lip on it so it was an overmount sink. so if you tried to clean it, you would be getting all the gunk sort of stuck around the sink. this way, with an undermount, you're just wiping everything in the sink, you're done. >> so much more functional. >> much more functional. the homeowner, she loved the fixtures that were sort of that square kind of look, and she carried that through the bathroom. >> and it matches everywhere. it's a theme. it goes throughout

the whole bathroom. >> so, everything goes together. instead of the big mirror that was sort of a one-sheet mirror, they were able to put in mirrors that are medicine cabinets, so added storage. >> who doesn't like that? >> shelves that can be changed for height of what products you want in there. they had the old hollywood lighting in there, the bulbs, you know, the round bulbs that -- very '80s, dated. so they updated with some really contemporary lighting, which i love. >> and you just look better in the morning. who doesn't like that? >> you've got to have good lighting for makeup and all that. >> exactly. did she come in with an idea of what she wanted? >> she sat down with our -- they sat down with our designer, husband and wife, and went through actual samples and were able to identify what they wanted. she said she made a few changes at the end, but, for the most part, worked together to sort of find -- >> the choices were there, and she found exactly what she needed. >> again, the countertop goes with the flooring, goes with the vanity, sort of works all together. >> tell me about these dramatic cabinets. >> and this wasn't here before at all. so, again, added storage,

all different colors, styles we can get. and the nice soft-close doors, right? and drawers, same thing, where it's... >> it's a very high-end feel. >> ...you slam the door, but -- >> you can't slam the door. >> you can't slam the door. this is a good thing. and then, it's sort of nice. you have a little separation, so you have two separate vanities. >> which is always nice. that's right. >> keep your stuff on your side of the deal. >> tell me about this tub. what changed here? >> so, they had a huge sort of surround that was built out probably -- i don't know -- 4 or 5 inches. again, with that really tiny tile and lots of grout. took up a lot of unnecessary room in the bathroom. and then, trying to get in, you had -- >> it's so hard to get in when you have that big shelf, almost. >> right. so, we got rid of that and just opened up the bathroom. the other thing that opened up the bathroom, they had a framed door, so you saw all this metal. the frameless just really opens up the bathroom, makes it look better, even though we didn't add square-footage. >> and it doesn't have

that dated metallic feel to it. >> right. and if you open it, you can sort of see the fixtures again that she chose. again, it's sort of the square version. >> and it's so easy to get into. >> easy to get in and out of. this is the durabath product, that's our proprietary product. >> the detail is great, and it matches so well with the whole bathroom. >> right. the black and the sort of glass. there's a tiny bit of grout there, but that's high enough that it doesn't get into the -- >> and no seams. >> so, the rest of it, yes. very easy to clean, and you don't have to worry about that. >> ooh, i love these hinges. so smooth. >> and again, everything brushed nickel so it all works well. and last but not least -- or, almost last -- there was carpet on this floor, and so they wanted the wood look, but you don't want to put wood in your bathroom with the water. >> and i've had carpet before, and it's a nightmare. the moisture, the mildew. it's just, you can never actually clean it. >> get it clean. it's nasty. >> so, this is great. >> so, this is a plank vinyl that's really nice. looks like wood, but you don't have to worry

about the water factor. the other thing we did over here, there was a pony wall right next to the toilet. again, didn't take up that much room, but visually, taking it out just opened up the bathroom so much. >> which makes the whole space easier to move around in. again, if you have any mobility issues, you've got the space to move. >> right. and a lot of our clients are 50-ish, and they think, "i want to stay in my home till i'm 80, so..." >> you don't want to redo your bathroom again. >> right. so, having something like this where you can get in and out of easily, it's great. and then, a new toto toilet, which is a great brand. low-flow, so eco-friendly, and you're gonna save -- most importantly, save on your water bill. >> which is a perk. >> yes, especially in the bay area, right? >> now, you saw -- you went to another bathroom up at the north bay, didn't you? >> yes, it was in san rafael. >> so, let's go ahead and take a look at that bathroom before the transformation. >> hi! welcome to this home in san rafael. it's actually an eichler home that was built in 1962, so the homeowner really wants to update this bathroom.

so we're basically gonna gut the entire bathroom and take it down to the studs. we're gonna remove this vanity, and she's actually gonna sell it to an eichler enthusiast that can refinish it, but we're gonna put in a higher vanity that's today's standard. and then, we're actually gonna be putting in some rectangular sinks, sort of update the look. new fixtures, everything's gonna look new. new toilet and flooring. and then, you can see this tub's been repainted and peeling and just not appealing. it's a-peeling but not appealing. so, we'll be taking that out and actually making it a walk-in shower with a low entry, so very accessible. so, we'll also be updating all the fixtures in the bathroom, including this shower head, which you can tell is pretty ancient. taking out the tile and this grout that's hard to take care of. we'll be putting in our durabath product that is really easy to take care of that looks like marble. i can't wait to see this renovation. come back after the break so you can see it, too.

we love it. and most importantly, the homeowner really loves it. we basically, if you remember, took out the entire tub that was chipped and old and really tired. tile and grout -- the grout had mold and mildew, and it was, again, not very practically for the family and just not looking good. we added a shower. we took out the tub completely, added a shower with a really low entry shower pan. this bathroom happens to be the kids bathroom but also is the pool bathroom. people can come from the pool. so, it might be people of all ages. they don't have to step over that lip of the side of the tub, and it's just easy to get into. also, it has a non-skid finish on the floor so you don't have to worry about slipping. on the walls, we did our durabath proprietary product that looks like calcutta marble. and, again, she loves it. handheld shower head along with a fixed shower head, so it works for everybody. shelving, even a niche to hold

your shampoo, your razor, everything in the shower so it's not all over the floor. and then, of course, we finished it off with a beautiful frameless shower door. and, again, it makes the bathroom just look three times as big and just open. the flooring we chose here, the homeowner chose, was a vinyl tile. looks like wood. we don't want to put wood in your bathroom because of the water issues, but this is fine having water on it and just looks great. we added a toto toilet that is low-flow, so meets all the standards, and you're gonna save on your water bill, so that's wonderful. we put in a great new vanity -- excuse me -- medicine cabinet here that has lights in it. so you can dim the lights, you can turn them off, and you can brighten it again. and the lighting continues on the inside. and a mirror so you can see the back of your hair when you're getting ready in the morning and outlets so you can charge your razor, your electric toothbrush,

everything like that that keeps it off the counter. and speaking of counters, we did a quartz countertop here again. zero maintenance, always looks great, you don't have to seal it, you don't have to do anything to it. and if you recall the vanity that was here before, again, it was an eichler, which is historic, but at the same time, it was very low and not functional for the family. it also had two sinks and so not a lot of counter space. we removed that. added this vanity that's got the wonderful dovetail drawers that are nice construction and also a soft-close drawer so you don't have to worry about slamming drawers. whole thing, again, most importantly, our client is thrilled, and it just worked really great for her family. let's go back to the design center and see what's happening there. >> thanks, kimeri. that was another amazing remodel up in san rafael. with me now is jason, general manager of the re-bath. welcome, jason. >> hi, lisa. >> okay, jason, i picked out my design, i've got all my materials,
