an emergency landing by a sight seeing helicopter in the florida keys sent three people to the hospital. it went down in the ocean near the key west airport yesterday evening. airport fire crews pulled the pilot and two passengers out of the chopper. they suffered minor injuries. no word on why that chopper went down. a suspected songbird smuggler faces charges in new york city. it's funny because it's a songbird smuggler, who does this? investigators say a man tried to enter the u.s. from guyana with 35 or 34 finches hidden in his carry-on bag inside of plastic hair curlers. do they belong to you? he apparently planned to sell

the u.s. is calling the move nuclear blackmail. >> reporter: it is a threat that could unquestionably bring iran and the u.s. closer to confrontation. iran saying in 10 days it will violate the joint 2015 nuclear deal by exceeding the limits on nuclear fuel unless europeans provide relief from crippling sanctions. but the u.s., which withdrew from the deal last year, fired back calling iran's threat nuclear blackmail, saying president trump has made it clear that he will never allow iran to develop nuclear weapons. although the additional 1,000 forces the u.s. is sending are said to be for defensive purposes, largely reconnaissance and surveillance, and more images now declassified from that tanker attack in the gulf of oman which officials say shows close up the iranian revolutionary guard corps

removing an unexploded mine from one of the tankers. but thus far no evidence has been released publicly of the iranians placing the mines on the ships. the military also saying the iranians attempted to shoot down a u.s. drone that was tracking one of the tankers, but the iranian surface-to-air missile, they say, missed by nearly a mile. >> both the u.s. and iran are thumping their chests, trying to show that they're tough enough when it comes to blows they can take it. but neither wants it to step across the line and have it come to military conflict. >> reporter: secretary of state mike pompeo says the evidence against iran in the attacks is unmistakable, but the european union wants further investigation. martha raddatz, abc news, washington. >> our thanks to martha there. now to dallas where police are trying to find out why a gunman opened fire outside a federal building. >> a newspaper photographer captured this image of the attacker, who police say was 22-year-old brian clyde. they said he was carrying more

than 150 rounds of ammunition. authorities engaged the man in a gunfight, fatally wounding him in a parking lot. no one else was hurt. the u.s. army says clyde was an infantryman from august 2015 to february 2017. in toronto, chaos broke out after a shooting at the raptors' nba championship celebration. thousands of people ran from the scene in a panic. police say four people were shot, three arrests were made, and two guns were recovered. an investigation into what caused the gunfire is under way. earlier officials said 1.5 million people attended the raptors' victory parade. many people skipped school and work to be there. it was toronto's first major sports celebration since the blue jays won the world series in 1993. >> wow, long time coming. president trump is officially kicking off his re-election campaign in orlando today with as many as 20,000 supporters expected to cheer him on. >> some of those supporters started camping out a day ahead of time as the campaign put the finishing touches on what's being described as a mini convention.

the president, who's expected to highlight his accomplishments, recently told abc news that he's planning to take another stab at health care reform. abc's cecilia vega has more. >> reporter: just as he is about to officially launch his re-election campaign, president trump now says he has a plan for the issue most important to american voters, health care. >> we're going to produce phenomenal health care. and we already have the concept of the plan. and it will be much better -- >> why don't you tell people what the plan is? >> we'll be announcing that in about two months, maybe less. >> reporter: white house sources tell abc news there is no legislative plan in the works, instead, the administration is drafting a set of health care principles. ever since republicans tried and failed to repeal and replace in 2017, party leaders have been reluctant to take on health care as a campaign issue in the race for 2020. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell said he's anxious to hear more. >> we're looking forward to seeing what he's going to recommend. >> reporter: still, the president insisting -- >> we're going to have a great health care plan. >> reporter: it was all part of

idiotic and petty and say they don't represent the person he is today. since last year's massacre he has championed gun rights and the second amendment while pushing school safety measures. amazon is firing back at new york congresswoman alexandria ocasio-cortez. she blasted the online giant saying it pays its workers quote starvation wages. amazon says it pays a $15 minimum wage and offers full benefits from the first day on the job, including continuing education help. a new jersey man is a ninth tourist to die in the dominican republic. his sister tells abc news her 55-year-old brother was found dead in his hotel room. he complained he wasn't feeling well and went up early to his room. the family wants a second autopsy performed. the other eight deaths have all been attributed to natural causes. the dominican republic's tourism minister calls them isolated incidents. the u.s. ambassador says the country has asked for help with the investigations.

meanwhile, dozens of jimmy buffett fans say they became seriously ill while staying at a dominican republic resort in april. turning to the weather, forecasters say this will be a wet week for much of the nation and monday lived up to its expectations. >> looking at the radar, flash flood watches extend from illinois east into new jersey. another strong system is moving through the northern plains down into texas. severe weather led to this rescue outside lexington, kentucky. a woman was trapped in her home by mudslides. flooding led to one death in the state. more than 3 inches of rain in two days forced evacuations and rescues outside akron, ohio. accuweather's paul williams has more. good morning, kenneth, janai. flood risks still running rampant through not only ohio. indiana, west virginia, pennsya into the d.c. area and into jersey with urban and small stream flooding. look for showers and thunderstorms throughout the ohio valley region, the mid-atlantic, as well as the northeast. that will run throughout the southeast with heavy storms throughout the tennessee valley

cameras capture one of mexico's tallest mountains cameras capture one of mexico's tallest mountains blowing its top. the volcano known as el popo erupted early today. it was the second major explosion in three days. monday's blast sent smoke and ash more than two miles above its peak. a nearby passenger plane captured the aftermath. 25 million people live within 60 miles of el popo. those closest have been advised to wear face masks as protection from the ash. i'm pretty sure if they need to be evacuated, the popo will help them out to get them out of there. >> popo like police?

china is standing by the leader of hong kong even as protests there continue. >> protesters are again blocking roads although much fewer than the 2 million people who protested on sunday. hong kong leader carrie lam is trying to pass a law that would allow people on the territory to be extradited to china for trial. the demonstrators want the bill killed and for lam to quit. back here at home an investigation is under way into a massive explosion that destroyed a home in new jersey. >> neighbors say the blast was powerful enough to knock them off their feet. as we hear from eva pilgrim, first responders managed to free one victim from the rubble. >> reporter: a home obliterated. >> looked like a bomb. >> reporter: a suspected gas explosion leveling a ridgefield, new jersey, house. its roof crashing to the ground. >> took me off my feet. i went to look over my fence and there was no house. >> reporter: the explosion blowing out windows, throwing debris hundreds of feet away. >> house explosion with a party

trapped, got a party trapped inside. >> reporter: an off-duty police officer a block away ran to the house, helping dig one person from the rear of the collapsed home. that person rushed to the hospital in stable condition. >> as the party was trying to exit on his own, they assisted moving debris and were able to extricate him out of the building. >> reporter: there was a gas leak that had to be shut off so firefighters could put out the flames. >> we need water now and also want pd to evacuate from this area. >> reporter: firefighters sawing through debris, others on ladders spraying water on hot spots. the rising smoke could be seen for miles. firefighters still out here keeping watch and watering those hot spots. as for the investigation, authorities say they aren't sure if the gas leak caused the explosion or was the result of it. still a lot of questions. eva pilgrim, abc news, ridgefield, new jersey. >> our thanks to eva. crazy story there. >> yeah, definitely. well, passengers aboard a united airlines flight from italy to newark, new jersey, were joined by stow-aways.

just accomplished something that no one her age has ever done before. here now to tell us all about it is our own brave soldier, will ganss. >> hey, i loved the high notes. i'm glad you went for them. inspiring me on a tuesday morning. y'all, when she was 7 years old, sala schneider scaled over 5,000 feet to the top of independence mountain in colorado. this morning she's done something even more impressive. sala schneider is 10 years old, and she's on top of the world. literally. >> i just can't believe i just did that. >> the youngest person ever to scale el capitan mountain in yosemite. all 3,000 feet of it. the nose route which took her five days to scale is one of the most challenging vertical rock formations in the world. back in the '50s it was considered unclimbable. but not for 4'2" sala, who reached the peak of el cap with her dad and his friend. the previous record was held by an 11-year-old boy.

[ bleep ]. >> reporter: a masked gunman in tactical gear firing on a dallas federal courthouse just before 9:00. one person seen just to the right of the suspect taking cover just feet away. >> we were all in a room together in a meeting when we heard the shots. >> maybe 10, 15 shots all just rapid. people just started running out of the building. >> reporter: a photographer with the "dallas morning news" capturing this chilling image of the gunman from just feet away. the suspect now identified as 22-year-old brian isaac clyde runs to a parking lot across the street, exchanging gunfire with federal authorities. he is shot and killed. authorities discovering his car nearby. the bomb squad out of precaution conducting a controlled explosion. we were on the scene just a block away and could hear the sound. and you just heard them he obje suspect vehicle was found here downtown. multiple fbi agents raiding a ft. worth apartment where

the plane was going to crash. here's abc's david kerley. >> reporter: one of the most extreme cases of turbulence caught on camera. a flight attendant picking up empty beverage cups slammed to the ceiling of a 737. the strength of the turbulence highlighted by how much is thrown to that ceiling, including the beverage cart, as the jet drops significantly. the cart crashing on the passengers, some scalded by hot water. according to those on the bulgarian jetliner from kosovo to switzerland. ten passengers transported to the hospital. there are about 27 significant turbulence events in the u.s. each year, with 14 serious injuries and 70 minor on average. crew member injuries can outnumber passenger injuries when turbulence hits unexpectedly. in this case, despite being slammed to the ceiling, the airline says the flight attendant was uninjured. david kerley, abc news, washington. fashion designer gloria vanderbilt has died of stomach
