>> she's alive. she's definitely alive. but i will admit that she was staying with me when i came up with the idea for the book. but it's not what you think. in fact, i get along really well with my mother-in-law. she's fantastic. >> they're rare. i'm just teasing. >> she's one of those, i call her, mother-in-law unicorns. she helps with the children. you know, just generally fantastic. on this particular trip, she and my father-in-law came from australia to the uk to give us a hand after the birth of my third child, and the thing about having a mother-in-law who's so fantastic is that it leaves my father in law without a lot to do. on this trip, he decided it was his mission to help me come up with a book idea. i wasn't looking for a new book idea.

i just had a baby. i had my in-laws staying in my house for sick weeks. i was still thinking about what we were going to have for dinner and that kind of thing. >> sleep. >> and sleep, but he wouldn't let it go. i do love him. but he was really getting on my nerves on this trip. >> he knows secretly this might be the father-in-law -- >> that's the next book. >> it's funny you have actually been pregnant during -- you've written a book during every pregnancy. >> yes. [ applause ] >> yes, so, she's technically birthing two babies, a human one and then a literary one. i'm not very productive during pregnancy. how did that happen? >> i had someone asked me recently, if i can only write a book when i'm pregnant. i said hope not. because i'm done now with the pregnancies, not with the books. it actually kicked off my

writing career with my first pregnancy when i decided that i knew the perfect thing to do with all my spare time. only a first-time mother would say this. during my maternity leave and i was living in canada at the time and being canadians they're very progressive. they're going to pay me for a whole year for maternity leave. >> love the canadians. >> and i thought, i'll write a book and it wasn't as easy as i envisioned of course. because i had a baby to look after. >> was that first book. >> that was my first book and that was the beginning of it. there was another baby during my second pregnancy, i wrote the secret of midwives. first book to be published in english and i have continued to write through another pregnancy and newborns. >> now, do the ideas come to you while you're pregnant? i have had strange dreams during pregnancy. not the same type of literature. was it something that came to you while pregnant?

years, and i still do. it's acne. i battled it and documented it on social media and i remember it got -- i remember it got so bad when i was around 13 or 14, i was at the naacp awards, and did madea family reunion with tyler perry. i was pretty insecure about it. it was obvious to see. he actuaully pulled my mom to the side and said, i'm actually going to pay for you guys to take her to a dermatologist. throughout the years, from that point on, i tried everything. i tried pills, creams, you name it, and i found a system that ultimately worked for me. because everyone's skin is different. but today, we have dr. dendy engelman here and we're going to talk about it and learn more. you're a doctor to the stars. >> yes. do you think that acne s

misinformed. so, i mean, it's so hard, everyone wants to pop their pimples. always say, don't do it. you ara warm compress, bring everything to the surface. use a q-tip. something gentle. because if we're using our fingers we can push the bacteria deeper into the skin, cause dark spots, potential for further infection. also reach for instead of alcohol, which can dry and irritate the skin, reach for tea tree oil. it can help for spot treatment. >> yes. so, now, we have this last one which i really love which is diet. we're often told as kids, drink a glass of milk, get strong bones. i'm still going to ask you guys, do you think these things contribute to bad skin? hell yeah. what do you think, racine? >> hell no. i changed my diet. even though i love ice cream, i have had to change it. because i have had more sairy.
