even in this tragedy and for that, she's has the highest honor and respect in my mind. >> i'm tara o'sullivan. >> reporter: she grew up in the east bay. there is a video from when she attended the law enforcement candidate scholars program where today they remembered a bright young woman who graduated from their first class. officer o'sullivan made an impression here. >> today is one of the saddest days i've ever had. i feel like i lost a daughter. >> strong. she was kind. she will wanted to communicate with others and build that will sense of like belonging with everyone. but at the same time, very tough. >> it's been 20 years since sacramento lost a police officer to gunfire. that feels like a long time around here. that officer o'sullivan was so young makes it even harder because they say an she had so much potential. now lost. >> the service that she gave to the community and the difference that she made in her time, it

so sorry. as a father of a 25-year-old daughter, i grieve with you. >> the captain shared that she had one these bubbly personalities but was always willing to help. didn't know what she was doing a lot of time but had the willingness to help. clearly that causing to be a police officer and those traits followed her to want to do this job. >> o'sullivan attended classes at diablo valley college in 2011 before heading to sacramento state. the president of dvc said the college is honored to have been part of her journey and proud of her choice to serve her community and heart broken her life was taken at such a young age. >> governor newsom said capitol flags will be flown at half-staff in her honor. he added today jennifer and i jointed all californians in expressing our deep condolences

and stand in solidarity with her family, fellow officers and those she served so honorably. >> this is the second time this year that i an sacramento area police officer has been killed in the line of duty. davis officer natalie corona was shot and killed while responding to a car accident in january. she was only 22 years old and graduated from the sacramento police one year before officer o'sullivan. >> first responders are around the bay area and across the nation are sharing condolences on twitter. departments from as far away as new york are sharing their sore role with her family and co-workers. you you can share your con del lenses by sharing this on social media. >> there could be commute headaches in the south bay next week. valley transportation authority drivers are a step closer to a possible strike. news reporter jobina fortson has reaction from riders. >> i have to be to work at 7:30 in the morning and i don't have a car. i've never owned a car.

so it would ruin my life. >> reporter: that was monique deer's reaction to us telling her about the bus drivers and light rail operators possibly going on strike. union members rejected the agency's contract offer and now calling on the mayor and bta board to tep in. >> we would hope they would take a closer look what bta offered and not take the negotiating team's word on it and get into the contract. we've offered to speak to every board member. >> reporter: the union and bta reached 37 agreements but can't seem to work out the issues over wage increases and the push for union members to make larger contributions toward pensions. they claim this last offer was their best and final saying "we were hopeful after these months of negotiating that atu union members would see this offer as fair and equitable. ultimately, avoiding a strike." when we asked the union about the strike. >> no comment. >> reporter: but bta is planning for one anyway by prioritizing
