joins us now live. do firefighters know yet what caused this fire, liz? >> reporter: yeah, hi eric and dion. we got an update. they say the three-alarm fire started at the elite roofing supply company and say it started at a hopeless encampment north of this roofing yard. as far as that injured firefighter, the firefighter injured battlinging this fire, we don't have an update yet. here is what we know. it started around 2:30 this afternoon. plumes of smoke went into the air. you can see the photos taken by people driving by. smoke could be seen as far away as stockton. this is largely an industrial area. near love ridge road. about 100 firefighters and personnel worked to get the fire out. it was a challenging fire. the weather played a role. take a listen. >> the weather caused us some problems mostly because of the

wind. it's also pretty hot and it's fairly dry. humidity levels are fairly low. that all contributed to get a grass fire started to the north of the property. >> reporter: and we know that the wind is what pushed this fire from the homeless encampment to the roofing company. there were other spot fires that happened, as well because of the wind blowing embers. all of those are out, as well. as far as how the fire started a fir official tells us a very high number of grass fires in this area start at homeless encampments. for now throughout the rest of the night, we'll monitor the condition confident injured firefighter. live here in pittsburg, liz kreutz. >> the heat and winds are obviously a big concern anytime we see a fire. we want to get a look what it's like in the east bay. >> abc 6 news meteorologist drew tuma.

versus two coyotes in her own backyard. cornell bernard has the story you'll see only on abc7. >> it reminds me of my youth watching "animal kingdom." >> she was living it friday morning when she heard strange sounds coming from her backyard in the foothills of los gatos. >> just after 7:00, i heard growling with the yipping of the coyotes. >> reporter: this is what she she saw. two coyotes caught in a tense standoff with a mountain lion. monica caught the encounter with her cell phone from her backdoor. the coyotes appear to work together to corral the big cat and stop it from moving forward. >> i didn't feel threatened. i was just intrigued what was happening. it was obvious the coyotes were trying to protect something. >> reporter: the scene lasted about a minute. she stopped recording as the big cat was ready to pounce. >> as soon as it started to pounce, i panicked and shut the

door. ended up shaking for about five, ten minutes. >> reporter: the mountain lion and coyotes treated into open space. but the next morning, the security cam captured this image, possibly the same mountain lion returning >> still around. >> reporter: mountain lion sightings are rare but not unusual. earlier this month there was a sight citing of a big cat in her neighborhood. >> this is their country. >> reporter: she downs she'll capture an encounter like this again. in los gatos. >> police are searching for a possible suspect after reports of gunfire today. abc7 news was in livermore this afternoon where multiple grun shots were pordine gshot and found a two truck with a shattered windshield. one officer we spoke with said

it's better to err on the side of caution. >> this is a rural area, as well. we don't know exactly the motive behind any of this nor -- we can't speculate one way or the other. all options are open. we don't know if it's reckless discharge of a firearm or there's more to it. >> most businesses in the search area are closed. nobody was hurt. >> two people died in a car crash early this morning in san francisco. the two col collided at the intersection of third street and paul avenue. victims with a man and a woman. one was pushed onto the muni metro tracks. a neighborhood who heard the crash and saw wreckage saw alcohol bolts in one of the cars. >> on the peninsula a man accused of stabbing two people to death in san mateo county is due for his first court reporter appearance. malik due suke can i was arrested on tuesday night. he drove at deputies investigating the second

stabbing. deputies shot at his car and he crashed. in a jailhouse interview on friday, he told news reporter unser hassan he doesn't remember anything and is looking forward to proving his innocence in court. a vigil set tonight for a fallen police officer. tara o'sullivan was killed on wednesday. she had recently graduated from the police academy. it will take place at sacramento state where she graduated from. her funeral will be held on thursday in roseville. o'sullivan grew up in the bay area graduating from pleasant hills college park high school. >> this evening people in hawaii are who wering the victims of a deadly plane crash. 11 people why killed after the sky driving plane plummeted to the ground after taking off friday. leis lined the crash site. nine were initiallied dead.

some family members witnessed the crash. people near the scene rushed to help but it was too late. >> i can't believe it. i'm so sorry for -- because there's nothing we could have done. there was nothing left. there wasn't a sign of anybody in that plane. >> reporter: the faa tells us the same twin engine beechcraft almost crashed in 2016 in con tran kosta county. this is hawaii's deadliest plane crash since 1981. >> just ahead, fallout from the latest horse death at santa an nit sta ta. >> the response from authorities as the raysing season comes to an end. >> and a qana business in california so big it took four days for authorities to seize all the plants. >> and quite the rescue unfolding in oakland. watch as firefighters had to save a goat.

a hall of fame trainer banned from santa anita park after a fourth horse from the stable died there. >> this is the 30th death at that track since the riding season began last december. ending its controversial season today. abc news reporter will reeve

reports. >> reporter: another tragedy at santa anita park. a gelding injured while exercising on the track. the hall of famer recently losing three other horses at and sa anita this season. whoen dorf ker banned by owners who say he is no longer welcome to stable, race or train his horses at any of our facilities. yesterday's death the 30th since is the season began. >> you could lose ten for no given season and you don't lose any for six months. so are we having just a really bad rash of luck? >> this spate of deaths garnering national attention, some calling for an end to racing at the park. >> we are tired of seeing horse after horse die here. >> reporter: while others offer their support. >> i love the racetrack. >>. >> reporter: one deathing is too many. >> the people here love the horses as much as they love

their families. >> reporter: horses dying at racetracks is not uncommon. according to the california racing board, santa anita has seen the most deaths in the past seven years averaging nearly 55 a year. throughout the season, nearly 1800 horses are stabled there and on any given race day, well over 1,000 are on the track. stable workers blaming track maintenance and heavy rains for injuries to the horses. santa anita recently instituted a series of safety measures including a new review team to evaluate all horses set to race at the track and the l.a. district attorney created a task force to investigate those deaths. will reeve, abc news, new york. >> a massive bust in santa barbara county. 350,000 plants were at an illegal grow so big it took them four days to destroy the crop. they also seized 20 tons of processed cannabis found near buhlton, 140 miles outside of

a hard working goat is safe this evening thanks to oakland firefighters. that goat fell into a 40-foot deep pipe near the leona canyon open space preserve yesterday evening. firefighters posted this video of the rescue to their twitter page. it was one of many brought in to graze to reduce the wildfire risk. crews worked for more than two hours to free the four-legged firefighter. >> car enthusiasts of all images enjoyed this display in e pinno classic car show today attracted car collects from across the bay area and

we'll see temperatures some 5 to 10 degrees cooler than today. then midweek, it is going to feel cool around here for june. by wednesday and thursday, some of our warmest spots struggling to even hit the mid-70s. big changes headed our way. numbers right now, the typical wide range we see in june. 84 novato, same in san jose. 93 in brentwood. sa s san mateo at 72 degrees. here's live doppler 7, the story we're tracking, any cloud cover we had earlier today along the coastline has evaporated and moved out of much of the bay area. the reason why? this ridge of high pressure is dominating our weekend forecast. but tomorrow it's going to lose its influence and move away from us. what we are tracking, what's waiting in the wings, this area of alaska will sink into the pacific northwest. that will usher in some cooler weather. you're going to feel it starting on tuesday. overnight tonight, lows in the

mid to upper 50s. we'll find patchy fog along the coastline. it's a mainly clear sky away from the coast. 12-hour day planner on your monday, sunrise 5:48 in the morning. temperatures starting out in the 50s. coastal clouds throughout the day. in the afternoon, not as hot as we are today. upper 70s to low 80s around the bay shoreline. inland our warm spots in the upper 80s to near 90. 65 in the city tomorrow. 84 for santa rosa. 86 in san jose. 74 in oakland, concord and antioch, a high of 90 degrees. our temperatures tumble into tuesday. really comfortable around the bay. 60s and 70s, our warmest spots no longer in. the 90s. we'll fall back into the 80s and even cooler on wednesday. it turns breezy around here. these numbers are some 10 to 15 degrees below where we should be for this time of year. wednesday and even into thursday, numbers mainly in the

takes a friendly bounce off the scoreboard. the rays win it, your final 8-2. kawhi leonard about to become a free agent. he will decline his player option for $21 million according toia hoog sports. he will no doubt be one of the marquee free agents on the open market this summer. if it's about the money, he will stay in toronto. they're the only team that can offer him a max contract five years for $190 million. reports also say leonard is seriously reconsidering signing with the raptors. of course, he led the raptors to their first nba title beat ago the warriors in six games in the nba finals. reports had him going to the clippers. he doesn't say much and neither do the people who work for him. we'll wait and see what he happens. >> toronto's mayor made a call saying please do not ask him in public if you see him. >> the whole country wants him to stay. reports are he wants to go to los angeles where he can blend in and not be bothered. we'll see.
