anybody that wants to speak. in the meantime, who knows what's going to happen? i can only tell you we cannot ever let iran have a nuclear weapon. and it won't happen. >> reporter: a short while later, iran's ambassador to the u.n. flatly rejected the idea of talks while the u.s. imposes more sanctions. >> you cannot start a dialogue with somebody who is threatening you, who is intimidating you. >> reporter: president trump, who has said the u.s. could obliterate iran, insists he has shown restraint by calling off a planned military strike to retaliate for iran shooting down a u.s. drone. >> i think a lot of restraint has been shown by us, a lot of restraint, and that doesn't mean we're going to show it in the future. >> reporter: now, one year after he tore up the iran nuclear deal, the president is telling the ayatollah he wants to negotiate a new one. >> he has the potential to have a great country and quickly, very quickly. and i think they should do that rather than going along this very destructive path.

called off nationwide raids to deport undocumented immigrants after a phone call from house speaker nancy pelosi. >> when i spoke to the president i said, look, i'm a mom, i have five kids. seven -- nine grandchildren. and -- and children are scared. you're scaring the children of america. >> the president is blaming democrats for the conditions at migrant centers saying they're not approving needed funds. trump is giving lawmakers two weeks to act on immigration or he claims he will go forward with the raids. a man charged in connection with a horrible traffic accident in new hampshire will be arraigned today. 23-year-old vladamir svekofzy is charged for the deaths of seven motorcyclists. witnesses say the pickup he was driving collided with the bikers on a two-lane road. he was arrested last month after failing a sobriety test, his second dui arrest in six years. a dream vacation turned into a nightmare when a tour bus

flipped over in the bahamas. 32 passengers from a carnival cruise liner were on the bus when it wound up on its side. at least 26 people were injured. the accident took place on an island there. authorities are looking into how it happened. four people were flown to florida in a u.s. military c-130 cargo plane after suffering injuries too severe to be treated in the bahamas. ambulances took them to hospitals for treatment. one person may have been paralyzed. a stun gun incident has placed washington, d.c., police in the spotlight. lawmakers are calling on two officers to be suspended after they used a taser on an unarmed man. police say he was interfering with an investigation. but witnesses say it was the officers who escalated the conflict. here's abc's linsey davis. >> hold on, hey, hey, hey, hey! >> reporter: anger and frustration reaching a boiling point over this video. >> chill, chill, chill! chill! >> reporter: this was the scene at a d.c. train station saturday.

a man approaches police officers, intervening as they question several black juveniles who were suspected of threatening riders. bystanders on the platform recording it all on video, horrified as an officer shoves the man, then uses his stun gun. >> that is not necessary! he's not even resisting, he's not even resisting, he's not even resisting! >> reporter: according to an officer's statement the man said, go ahead, tase me, and took a combative stance by clinching his fists. what we see in the video is the man approaching with his palms out. >> if you're having a hand out, palm out, that doesn't say aggression. that says stop. that says pause. that says wait. >> stop! >> reporter: the metro transit police department says it's opened an internal investigation into the use of force saying, we are committed to fostering the public's trust in us. that man is not expected to be charged. we've also heard from the mother of one of those juveniles and she is calling that man a hero saying had he not intervened, things likely would have been a lot worse. linsey davis, abc news, new york.

>> the video in the situations tend to help. new video shows the plane in the hawaii skydiving tragedy nearly crashing three years ago. >> the ntsb says the pilot on this 2016 flight lost control and the plane began to spin. the video came out as the names of 7 of the 11 people killed in last week's crash were released. the ntsb has called on the faa to tighten parachuting regulations. an exotic cat attack sent an illinois woman and her daughter to the hospital. bloomington police say a caracal escaped from a home and went after the child. her mom managed to get it away. both of them suffered puncture wounds and scratches. the animal was put down when it lunged at animal control officials. its owner received a number of citations. >> that kitty. >> my goodness, yeah. would you have thought it was just a neighborhood cat? >> no, i would not have at all thought that was a neighborhood cat. >> fido's loose! >> no thank you.

now to the showdown with iran. president trump has signed off on new economic sanctions directly targeting the country's supreme leader and other top officials. the president said the move is in response to the attack on a u.s. surveillance drone and other provocations by iran and he vowed to keep up the pressure until iran abandons its pursuit of nuclear weapons. but iran is refusing to negotiate saying it could shoot down another u.s. drone. a multi-day cruise from florida to the bahamas took a horrible turn for a group of tourists on a shore excursion. >> their tour bus wound up on its side and dozens of people were injured, some very seriously. authorities are trying to figure out exactly what caused the island crash. abc's victor oquendo reports. >> reporter: the race to treat american victims of a bus crash in the bahamas. 32 passengers from the carnival "ecstasy" cruise ship were on a tour bus on the island of eleuthera when it flipped over. at least 26 were injured. at least four passengers airlifted in this c-130

transport plane because their injuries were too serious to treat in the bahamas. the carnival "ecstasy" on a five-day bahamas cruise that departed jacksonville two days ago. airport officials tell us three out of the four americans who were airlifted here to south florida suffered broken bones, internal injuries, to possible paralysis. no official word on the cause of the crash. but carnival says they've suspended several of those tours. >> our thanks to victor there. extreme weather is barreling toward east coast, leaving damage in its wake. >> a tornado may have touched down near charleston, west virginia, ripping up trees and power lines. as many 50,000 people may be without power overnight. and look at this, a homeless houston man is lucky to be alive after he was caught in flash flooding. he'd been camping near a bayou when the water started rising. he had to hold onto a railing until firefighters could rescue him. >> and you can see on the weather radar a line of severe storms extending from the deep

south all the way up to the great lakes and moving east. commuters may face some of that heavy rain this morning. >> we expect thunderstorms in the midwest extending almost to the gulf coast and as far east as atlanta. the southeast will be hazy, hot, and very humid. but in the northeast, the humidity will clear out later in the day. just days before he participates in the first democratic presidential debate, senator bernie sanders is out with a new student debt plan. it would cancel $1.6 trillion worth of student debt which sanders says would free 45 million americans from a significant financial burden. sanders says he is so-called college for all act would be paid for by a series of taxes on stock trades and other investments. >> amen to getting rid of student debt. the l.a. dodgers say they will be extending the safety netting at their stadium. that announcement came a day after a girl was hit in the head by a foul ball. she was seated along the first baseline just beyond the current safety netting at the stadium. the team didn't give a timeline for when that net extension would be in place. and a delegation of italians

incredible video from the waters off tampa. you see a man in his flippers there swimming alongside a 30-foot whale shark. he and his friends spent about an hour in the water with the big fish which is sometimes called a gentle giant. the shark was friendly, even allowed him to pet it. whale sharks are endangered and they are the largest of all fish. they can grow up to 40 feet and

chicago police department. authorities blurring faces. >> i don't want to be filmed. >> reporter: the alleged attackers seen in this video, but the supposed incident itself not captured on tape. for weeks authorities investigated the claims. >> today we have no reason to think he's not being genuine with us. >> reporter: but later determined smollett fabricated the attack. investigators saying the alleged attackers were these two brothers, extras on his show "empire," who police say smollett hired to carry out the assault. surveillance showing the brothers buying masks and hats. and this new video shows them being arrested as they arrived at o'hare back in february. smollett was indicted, but those charges in a controversial decision later dropped by the prosecutor. and the judge has ordered a special prosecutor to review the handling of the case, which means smollett could possibly once again face charges. federal investigators are also looking into whether smollett mailed a threatening letter to himself. alex perez, abc news, chicago.
