kenneth. good morning, janai. robert mueller is a notoriously silent figure. in the two years since his investigation was launched, he has given one ten-minute statement but congress is now here saying that is not good enough and issued these subpoenas to get him to testify. with the world watching special counsel robert mueller now expected to testify at public hearings july 17th. the house judiciary and intelligence committees both issuing mueller subpoenas tuesday night. democratic members eager to finally ask him questions about the russia investigation and the ten instances laid out in the mueller report where the president may have obstructed justice. >> if we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so. >> reporter: house intelligence chair adam schiff telling msnbc he doesn't think mueller would consider this a friendly subpoena, but congress needs answers. >> we never felt it was sufficient to rely simply on a written report or a ten-minute statement without the ability to follow up with questions. >> reporter: after the news broke, president trump

responding on twitter with his familiar refrain of presidential harassment. this following weeks of accusing mueller of being biased. >> i think mueller is a true never trumper. >> no collusion, no obstruction. >> reporter: the president's attorney jay sekulow now going on the attack against mueller telling fox news -- >> the first thing he needs to answer is his own conflicts of interest. the whole report is incoherent. >> reporter: sekulow also telling abc he expects mueller's testimony to mirror his report, something that mueller himself has said before when indicating he didn't want to testify. >> and the work speaks for itself, and the report is my testimony. >> reporter: another reason mueller didn't want to testify is because he didn't want republicans and democrats to turn that testimony into a spectacle. now, mueller has said that the interference in the 2016 election deserves the attention of every american, and now it appears three weeks from now he is going to have that attention. janai, kenneth.

>> and, trevor, of course, we know robert mueller will face tough questions from democrats but he will also likely face tough questions from republicans on those committees as well. >> reporter: rate, yeah, we're looking at a grilling likely from both sides. the president's legal team issued a statement with some concerns that have been brought up by republicans and that's about what they call irregularities in how this investigation was conducted. one of those instances involving peter strzok and lisa page who were two members of mueller's team who were removed after some anti-trump messages between them were made public so there is going to be harsh questions from both sides but robert mueller, of course, very stoic. we'll have to see what he's willing to talk about. >> and, trevor, the world will be watching listening closely to those answers. trevor ault in washington, thank you. now to the crisis at the border. overnight on capitol hill the house approved billions of dollars in humanitarian aid for migrants setting up a showdown with the senate. it comes amid yet another shake-up in the trump administration. overnight the house approved $4.5 billion in emergency aid

for the border crisis. >> the bill is passed. >> reporter: the bill includes provisions to help children and families taken into u.s. custody, but the white house is threatening to veto the bill. president trump is demanding changes to the asylum system, even though he says he does support emergency aid. >> it's all about humanity. it's about helping children. >> reporter: it comes amid reports of hundreds of children being housed in deplorable conditions at two facilities in texas. a border patrol station in clint reportedly denied children soap and toothpaste according to lawyers who went inside and spoke with them. they were found filthy sleeping on the concrete floor with only mylar sheets. >> we found raggedy children, freezing, wearing clothes they came in off the border from. >> reporter: customs and border patrol has denied most of the allegations saying overcrowding has been the problem and while they say they moved 250 children from the clint facility, abc learned 100 children have been

transferred back to that facility. pictures shown by "the texas tribune" shows boxes diapers and toys at the door and they were turned away by who say it's against the law for government agencies to accept goods not earmarked by congress and as the white house faces anger over the condition of border facilities, a gut-wrenching reminder of the perils migrants face. graphic images show a father and his 23-month-old daughter after they drowned in the rio grande near brownsville, texas. reports say the family from el salvador was waiting months to be granted asylum before they risked their lives crossing the river, all of this as acting chief john sanders announces his resignation. sources tell abc news sanders' resignation had nothing to do with the revelation that the border patrol housed migrant children in conditions that a doctor who recently visited the facility likened to torture facilities. president trump when asked about sanders' resignation said he doesn't believe he's ever spoken to him. taking over for sanders will be mark morgan who served as border patrol chief under president

obama. morgan once said he could spot a future gang member by looking into a boy's eyes. we learned overnight two u.s. service members have been killed in central afghanistan. the taliban has claimed responsibility saying the two soldiers were killed during an ambush though the pentagon has not confirmed that. and, meanwhile, the war of words between the u.s. and iran is escalating. on tuesday iran's president rejected any chance of talking and hurled insults at the white house. still, president trump signaled that he's open to negotiations but he also issued a threat warning that the u.s. will respond to an iranian attack on anything american with obliteration, and he was asked about his plan in case there is a war. >> do you have an exit strategy for iran if war does break out? >> you're not going to need an exit strategy. i don't need exit strategies. >> national security adviser john bolton says the u.s. is seeking a path to peace even as

iran threatens to violate the nuclear deal still in place with europe. bolton wants all options to remain on the table. three people are dead after an apparent case of workplace violence in northern california. it happened at a ford dealership in morgan hill near san jose. a man shot two workers before taking his own life. one employee says the shooter had just been let go from his job at the dealership. time now for a look at your weather for this wednesday morning. good morning. we're tracking more some severe storms as we head later into our wednesday from areas north of kansas city into the dakotas. we need to watch for damaging wind gusts, hail and perhaps some flooding as well. we'll have some pop-up storms into the afternoon across the ohio river valley, bigger story for the northeast. heat and humidity building, we're talking highs in the low 90s into philly and d.c. big-time heat coming across the southeast as well and near record high temperatures on tap

[ chanting "lock him up" ] we're back with california congressman duncan hunter facing new allegations of misusing campaign cash. prosecutors claim the merry lawmaker spent some of that money on affairs with five women. he and his wife are already charged with using $200,000 on trips and personal expenses. hunter has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. new details point murder of a former arkansas state senator.

the fiance of the woman arrested in the case is now speaking out. tim loggains says he has no idea why police believe his fiancee killed her own friend and former boss. becky lynn o'donnell is accused of capital murder in the murder of linda collins-smith who was found shot and wrapped in a blanket outside her home. authorities have not revealed a motive. loggains says two women were close. >> becky is not capable of this. i haven't questioned this at all. no. either she is the best actress in the world and a sociopath and completely fooled me, or there's not a chance she did this. and i'm going with there's not a chance she did this. >> loggains says o'donnell was a witness in collins-smith's divorce and that he oversaw some of her finances but he says he never made money off the arrangement.

o'donnell is due back in court next month. san francisco will become the first city in the u.s. to outlaw e-cigarettes. the ban goes in effect january 1st. supporters say it will curb underage use and opponents believe it will make it harder for adult smokers to quit and point out recreational marijuana is legal. state and federal regulators have launched a new crackdown on robocalls. the ftc says officials have taken action against nearly 100 operators responsible for about 1 billion calls. many of the calls are scams. the ftc says it now gets more than 10,000 robo complaints each day. there's been a massive price cut for the mansion used in "the beverly hillbillies." the estate in bel air, california, was home to the clampett family. it has 11 bedrooms, 18 bathrooms, majestic grounds including a massive pool. the asking price has just been cut by $50 million. that's right $50 million. down to just 195 million.

this morning the moment many are calling a miracle. >> ah, look how precious you are. >> a newborn girl just hours old found abandoned wrapped in a plastic shopping bag. >> i said it's got to be impossible. it's got to be a raccoon or a baby deer or something. >> alan raggetts and his family heard the baby's cry and just happened to be outside that night after getting home from vacation. >> we started hearing noises. i guess we'll go look. what if it's an animal that needs help. >> reporter: the family headed into the woods with a flashlight and followed the sound to a pile of leaves on top of a bath mat. >> pull it up and there was a poor baby and we called 911. >> it's in a bag. >> what's in a bag? >> the baby is in a bag. >> is she breathing? >> she's crying. >> how old is the baby? >> newborn. >> are they coming? >> reporter: deputies arrived and tore the bag open finding the newborn with her umbilical cord still attached. officers frantically wrapped the crying baby in a jacket.

concord, clear lake, 65 in brent wood. everybody else in the mid to upper 50s. increasing clouds along the coast. low to mid 60s half moon bay, san francisco. look at the upper 60s, richmond and oakland, low 70s around the bay and mainly low to mid 70s inland until you get to places like concord and antioch. definitely a spring flavor to this forecast. how about the commute? >> good morning, mike. overall looking okay. no major issues to talk about so far this morning. a minor issue getting out of the central valley westbound 580 before greenville road. two-vehicle collision. sounds like everybody is off on the right shoulder. not a blocking situation. but a little yellow on our traffic maps approaching the scene. a quick check of drive times as well. you can see we're in the yellow already, westbound 580 tracy to dublin coming in at 32 minutes. no delays northbound 85 between highway 101 and cupertino.

developing overnight in afghanistan where two u.s. soldiers have been killed. >> it happened during a military operation east of kabul. a taliban spokesperson claimed they died during an ambush in eastern wardak province. nine service members have died in afghanistan so far this year. >> the deaths come just two days before the next round of talks between the taliban and the u.s. also developing this morning, morgan hill police are investigating the shooting at a car dealership that left three men dead including the speck. >> this happened just after 6:00 p.m. on condit road in morgan hill off highway 101. investigators say the suspect went to the dealership and opened fire. officers got there within minutes after receiving multiple calls about the shooting. >> they located a male who was down on the ground. he apparently had a gunshot wound and was deceased.
