employees was fired, came back, shot two of the managers who would have been individuals that fired him. >> the employees are gathered over across the street there. some are crying. > morgan hill is a small town. this stuff doesn't happen. >> a small town suddenly finds itself dealing with big city problems. good evening. thanks for joining us. i'm larry beil. >> i'm ama daetz. >> it was chaos last night when the a man opened fire at a ford deership killing two people. we learned late today those plen 38-year-old xavier souto and 59-year-old brian light. >> the shooting suspect identified as 60-year-old steven leet. we have new developments in the case. let's begin with news reporter chris nguyen. >> and you talked about that chaotic scene at the dealership. it was full of employees and customers at the time of the shooting. tonight, this community, there's a sense of sadness as many of them tried to grieve. >> this afternoon, morgan hill

police released new details about tuesday's deadly shooting at the ford store on conditt road. >> we have an expectation to be able to be go home at the end of the shift. >> investigators say the gunman, 60-year-old steven leet was fired from his job in the parts department earlier in the day and returned a short time later killing two. >>s. 38-year-old xavier souto and 59-year-old brian light before turning the gun on himself. police revealing that souto was shot point blank. light tried to fight the gunman but shot multiple times. >> the actions of mr. light allowed the customers and employees of that business type to get out. >> an unthinkable event that has left many in morgan hill stunned. >> so sad that this happened. and we just pray for the families that are involved. >> earlier today, the president of the ford dealership released a short statement. we are devastated by this terrible loss. thank you to the morgan hill

community who has come together with us during this extremely difficult time. >> we're taking it very hard right now. morgan hill is mourning. > mayor rich constant tine pledging assistance to the victims' families. >> we'll be looking at what happened. if there's they steps we can take tas a city to help make our citizens safer. >> a community trying to make sense of this tragedy. >> shattering to the people that lived here to know these things are happening. >> reporter: there's no word yet on why the suspect had been fired from his job. but we can tell that you police believe the shooting was a spontaneous act. live tonight in morgan hill, chris nguyen, abc7 news. >> chris, thank you. >> tonight, we're hearing from people who shopped and worked at that ford dealership. reporter vic lee is live with that part of the story. vic? >> reporter: well, quite a few cars came up to these locked

gates today. many came here to service their cars. others came to pick up their cars. many came knowing what happened. others did not. but all of them asked that question why. >> i was inside. i just heard two pops and then they said to go outside. there's a shooter here. >> this woman was a customer at the dealership when the killings police say steven leet later shot himself outside his car parked at the ford store. police towed the vehicle early this morning. crime scene cleaners cleaned up the bloody crime scene as soon as police investigators left. some of the managers came back this morning. there were hugs and whispered conversations. flowers were delivered. billie wynn was one of the first to arrive just after dawn. he delivers bagels each weekday morning to the ford store. he believes what happened didn't have to end with three deaths. >> there's a lot of jobs out

there. you could find another job. >> other customers echoed the same thought. jim wanted an oil change. >> you lose your job, you don't come back and shoot the guy. you must have done something wrong in order to get terminated, right? >> brandon did not want his last name used. he's a former employee who came to pay respects. >> it's devastating, sad. like these are my former employees like family to me. >> brandon knew xavier souto, one of the victims. >> very nice, very friendly. kind-hearted. we always had lunch together. >> brandon also knew the alleged killer who worked in the parts department. >> he just really kept to himself, to be honest with you. >> a representative from the ford store handed us this written, this handwritten statement this morning. it says in part, we are devastated by this terrible loss. thank you to the morgan hill

more information from an autopsy before they can say for sure exactly what happened. >> a suspected hit and run driver is now in custody in virginia. more than two months after oakland police believe he killed a mother and her son. u.s. marshals captured 27-year-old ray allen in portsmith, virginia after tracking him to a home on an arrest warrant stemming from an assault cases in humboldt county. two both died after being hit while crossing foothill boulevard. oakland police claim allen left the scene following the crash april 13th. >> three families are safe but devastated after a fire tore through their emeryville homes. a house cleaning crew was just starting their day when they realized it was on fire. >> my sister called me, oh, smell. oh, my god, what is that? oh! oh, my god. >> that fire eventually spread

toe two other homes. three people including an infant were taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation. everybody else got out okay including one woman who had to rescue her pet cat and that ran to you loparo. >> i was panicked because my cat hides when she's afraid. i had to turn the couch over to get her out. >> 21 people are now out of their homes. the red cross is helping them with whatever they need. >> today several bay area fire agencies are letting people know how they're reducing wildfire risk. since sunday, we've seen enthree grass fires break out, one in altamonte pass, one san jose and one fremont. eric thomas is live in the hills bob lafayette with the mess mess and from half a dozen east bay fire departments today. >> am marks for most of us there are four seasons unless you're a california firefighter. then there's fire season driven by dry fuels like you see right

here, drivenly climate change and fires that burn hotter. firefighters can't handle it alone. >> we rode along with regional park's firefighters shawyn anderson and justin neville today to see the spots they monitor closely. >> so this is an area that either gets mowed or grazed every yearer. >> to avoid a repeat. things like the grizzly fire of 2017 which burns of burned 20 acres above the uc berkeley campus and took 200 firefighters to put out and especially of the 1991 oakland hills firestorm that killed 25 people and destroyed 3,000 homes. so today, this is plea. >> fire season is upon us and we need your help to keep our communities safe. >> a local firefighters now say every season is fire season in california. today a consortium of more than half a dozen east bay fire departments a group called the hills emergency forum spelled out what firefighters need from homeowners. first cutting back vegetation to create a 100-foot defensible

space around your home. >> the results could be less fire and greater preservation of homes, infrastructure, and life. >> second, preserving life is priority one and departments will have to pool resources off the fire line to save you. be ready to evacuate. >> leave before you're told to do so. have a plan where you're going to go. >> we're asking folks to empower themselves, give them control of their outcome and to try to harden homes so we don't have to be parked right outside. >> the governor came to the berkeley hills back in april to pledge state resources to fire fighting efforts. local agencies are doing their part, as well. july 8th, the or renda more rag ga fire department plans to begin thinning vegetation starting near this high school in walnut creek and continuing onto the hills above san pablo to give themselves a fighting chance. >> so that will be 1500 acres in total running along the perimeter of san pablo reservoir

since it launched in san francisco any 2005. the company's founder told the santa rosa press democrat that high rents, production costs and competition make this a challenge in california. >> moving on, san francisco based pilot.com. the software-based bookkeeping company is opening a new headquarters in nashville. and planning to create 450 new jobs. pilot credits nashville's growing tech and startup scene. >> mitsubishi motors is also going to mashville relocating from orange county because of lower operating costs. this company posted its image when it celebrated 5 million cars sold. governor of tennessee acknowledged the two companies moving to his state yesterday with this tweet. >> as governor today, i'm california dreaming. you know why? just today we had two companies major companies announce the relocation of their head quarters from the golden state to tennessee. there's a lot of chatter out

see the catch 22. >> i do. if you come to my building to apply for a passport, the guards will call us and we'll come down to the entrance and escort you up to our office. so you can get in. >> that's quite the service. you guys have new fats here in san francisco. very quick, very slick. what do people need to know when they show up to get a passport? >> they need to have an appointment ahead of time ideally, proof of citizenship and proof of identity to apply. an old passport is the best way because it is both. however, if you don't have one, you're applying for the first time, you can provide a birth certificate as proof of your citizenship in the u.s. and a driver's license as proof of identity. if you're naturalized, a naturalization certificate is both proof of identity and citizenship. so that works, too. >> it seems straightforward. >> we try to make it that way. >> david tyler, i appreciate your time.

area of low pressure spinning off the pacific northwest coast is responsible for that cooling. we even sawrsrms to our north. seeing some showers in the pacific northwest. compared to 24 hours ago, we have 13 degrees of cooling compared to 24 hours ago in concord. it's noticeable. 12 degree drop in livermore and it is definitely windyer than we've seen in guys past. gusting to 37 at fairfield. as you check out where the winds are going, it is on the breezy said side. look at the forecast tomorrow. another below average day with the winds tomorrow afternoon at noon, not too windy. later in the day, the winds begin to ramp up again. a onshore breeze coming off the cool ocean water. that's why we're not going to be warming up. temperatures similar to today. a live look from our emeryville camera. the shaky camera, the marine layer reorganizing. temperatures in the low 60s to the mid-70s right now. no heat to be found in the area.
