around the work station, escorted to back office to speak with former supervisors, short time later he opened fire. >> police responded just after 6:00 p.m. both victims san jose residents. amanda del castillo is live. >> reporter: ama, larry, police are calling brian light a hero, saying his actions saved the lives of many others. both victims were fathers who lived in san jose. families asking for privacy as they continue to grieve. signs of loss linger. portuguese band of san jose building, flag at half staff for xavier souto. neighbors of brian light still learning about the tragedy. >> my god, can't possibly be true.

so i knocked on their door and the youngest son answered the door. i can't scribe what that was like. >> reporter: parts manager and light the parts gunman 60-year-old steven leet returned after fired and shot souto at point blank range. light tried to fight the gunman but shot multiple times. >> actions of mr. light allowed the customers and employees of the business time to get out. that we clearly see on the video surveillance. >> reporter: suspect then turned gun on himself. the store remained closed as family, community mourned the loss of two men, hardworking fathers with a love fg.
