residents in the valley. but a surprise announcement six years ago would mark the start of a painful bat. >> we moved in here on the understanding we could stay here the rest of our life. and all of a sudden, it's like sorry, you can't do that. >> reporter: the long-time owns are decided to sell to a developer, leaving the mobile park's residents more than 100 senior citizens in lip bow. >> i'm a youngster in here. i'm only 75. we've got people in here in their 80s and 90s. >> dave johnson rallied his neighbors and decided to fight. and after years of negotiations an agreement was announced today between the homeowners association and the developer, pulte homes. the settlement will make way for the construction of nearly 700 new apartments and condominiums across from santana row. residents can move into replacement housing at the same rent with yearly increases capped at 3%. pulte agreed to design the units to be senior friendly. >> this could have been a major

be disaster. >> mary jo is a retired educator and lives here for 40 years. >> the biggest relief is that i can stay in san jose. that i can keep my friends, that as i get older, i will be able to go to the places that i know. >> reporter: in a statement, mayor sam lick card doe said this ground breaking agreement will pave the way to insure fair and equitable treatment for mobile hope park residents facing redevelopment pressure throughout california. attorneys took the case pro bono on the behalf of the residents. they hope the agreement serves as an example how redevelopment should happen in the future. >> >> it should be development that's equitable where the parties come to an agreement and people are not displaced and residents get to stay in the community. >> reporter: residents here working together to build a better bay area. >> take a good hard look at your community and see what needs to be done and go out and do something about it. >> the city still needs to

approve the plan but pulte hopes to start construction in the fall of 2020. live in san jose tonight, chris nguyen, abc7 news. >> we want to hear your ideas will building a better bay area share them by joining our group facebook. >> police are looking for two masked men who got away with a considerable amount of money after robbing an armored car in front of a wells fargo in the foothills square shopping center in oakland. police tell abc news anchor dion lim they want your help finding the thieves who executed the planned heist. >> reporter: even though the bank was not targeted, the doors to this branch are locked today after the robbery involving two rifles, handgun, masked suspects and what oakland police say is a crime so rare, they haven't seen like it since 2006. >> literally you would see it out of a movie. >> reporter: the drama that unfolded at loc land's foothill

square shopping center was something police hadn't seen in more than a decade. >> we don't see this on a daily, monthly, yearly basis. >> reporter: two masked suspects armed with rifles and a handgun targeted two guards and robbed this armored vehicle just before 11:00 thursday morning. in a matter of minute, they got away with authorities are calling a large sum of cash. >> you don't see it -- it should never happen. >> reporter: nobody was hurt in the robbery. in the last heist, a brinks guard was shot and kid at the fruville station shopping center. in that incident, the suspects made off with more than a million dollars. oakland police and the fbi are kobing through evidence including surveillance video and interviewing witnesses. they ask if anyone saw what happened to please come forwards sign indicated an unsuspected is emergency at this branch. we did overhear some employees tell customers they would be back open tomorrow.

in oakland, dion lim, abc7 news. >> there was a overthrow crowd for today's final farewell to a young police officer from the bay area. supporters and law enforcement lined highway overpasses as tara o'sullivan's casket was take it on a church in roseville outside sacramento. a gunman killed her last week in sacramento. wayne freedman takes you to today's funeral. >> reporter: it was equal parts impressive and demoralizing. the kind of pageantory police officers and their families dred. a funeral today, a thin blue line now thick with sadness, extending onto the streets of roseville. >> they deserve it. our respect and loyalty to show them our support. >> they risk their life every day for us. >> reporter: and so this massive show of support from above and below as sacramento paid last respects to police officer tara o'sullivan. >> last wednesday, evil showed its face in our city.

>> reporter: she was 26 years old. she died last week of gunshot wounds while helping a woman remove possessions from a home during a domestic dispute in north sacramento. the suspect had a long record. o'sullivan was a rookie. she had been on the job just six months and already made a strong impression. >> what you see is what you get. tara was real. tara was authentic. but that's just a type of person tara is. >> reporter: while the death of any officer feels tragic this one resonates across northern california. officer o'sullivan grew up in the east bay and already knew she wanted to be a police officer by the time she enrolled at college park high school in pleasant hill. friends describe her as single minded, focused, driven, a young woman of strong convictions and unique qualities. >> she was one of those rare people who devoured life. doing so well somehow maintaining both strength and kindness in equal measure. >> reporter: a description

weighing heavy on some 3,000 people and certainly tara's parents as police officers from across the state and nation placed her casket in a hearse. such a price in the risk in the back of every officer's mind sometimes paid though rarely by one so young. in roseville, wayne freedman, abc7 news. >> and official page has been set up for the officer tara o'sullivan memorial fund. if you'd like to donate, we have a link on abc7news.com adel ramos made his first court appearance monday charged with murder which could lead to the death penalty. he has not entered a plea. a family file aid federal lawsuit against vallejo police today after officers is fired 55 shots and killed an aspiring rapper at a taco bell drive through. body cameras captured the deadly confrontation.

>> officers say willie mccoy reached for a gun when they checked on him after getting a call he was unresponsive in his car in february. his family called what happened an execution. but vallejo city manager denied claims that officers used too much force against mccoy. a south bay homicide suspect has been identified as the man killed by park ranger in big sur last weekend. kevin alanis was killed in a shoot-out on saturday. >> three park officers were investigating reports he shot at hikers on a trail in pfeiffer big sur state park earlier that evening. when officers found him, they say he refused to put his hands up and walked toward them and pulled out a gun. after the shoot-out, they found more than 300 rounds of ammunition in his backpack. >> the type you have ammunition he had in his fire warp was called g2ri. they market it as the last round

you'll need. it's a particularly vicious type of ammunition. >> there was a warrant out for his arrest for a shooting on interstate 680 near landis avenue in milpitas earlier this month. 30-year-old matthew rios was killed. authorities say it was a targeted attack. >> b.a.r.t. is now providing some answers into what caused a train to break down in oakland monday morning forcing hundreds of riders to evacuate. according to preliminary investigation, air compressors on two cars malfunctioned causing a communication failure. that made it so both couldn't move. the break down between the 12th street and lake merritt stations caused delays that lasted well into the afternoon. it was 30 minutes before they were told what was happening and faebl escorted to get them out. b.a.r.t. says this is the first time any of its new cars have had such a problem. >> much more to get to this thursday evening. a long journey ends. a powerful moment as a former

friends. a man who took 65 years to track him count and honor him. eric thomas has a story you'll see only on abc7 news. >> they got me walking here. >> reporter: sergeant major vincent salsetto has been waiting to make this walk since 1953. ♪ . >> that's dave. >> reporter: when his friend david ferrari and two other men went down when their squad was attacked during a patrol. >> we were hit with a military barrage. it was just -- it was chaos. >> reporter: vince pulled two of the wounded men to safety. when he went out a third time to get david. >> as i turned him over, he was hit pretty good. >> reporter: david was killed in action. sharing the fear and rush of combat had turned the two into brothers, vince took his death hard and vowed he would never go through those emotions again. >> nobody got close to me. >> reporter: he promised after

the war, he would track down david's family and tell them what happened. but at first, he couldn't find them. then marriage, six kids and a 30-year career as a philadelphia cop took priority. however, nightmares about what happened never went away. ad two weeks ago, a lead pointed to the italian cemetery in in colma, so they flew out. >> without your sacrifice, their cause would be lost. >> reporter: today a bronze star medal for valor was placed on david's tombstone. passengers on the flight route wrote messages on napkins for vince. one of them reads heard you're going to pay your respects to a fallen soldiers. i had tears in my age. >> reporter: vince told back his tears today but says a weight has been lifted off his shoulders. >> i feel as though i can move on with my life. hopefully, these nightmares will leave me. >> reporter: vince and dave's last mission together accomplished. ♪

in colma, eric thomas, abc7 news. >> the house passed the senate's version of a border funding bill today only after house speaker nancy pelosi changed course. the emergency legislation is required to ease overcrowding in often harsh conditions at u.s. holding facilities for migrants seeking asylum. it passed after she reversed her previous call to reconcile the house and senate bills ahead of the july 4th recess. she told her colleagues passing the bill was necessary to get migrants help but this is not over. >> as the senate bill passes, when it does, if it does, it will not be the end of this debate. it will be the battle cry. it will be the battle cry. as how we go forward to protect children in a way that truly honors their dignity and worth. >> the bill now heads to president trump who is expected to sign it. >> as the bay area celebrates

lgbtq pride, we've been digging through our archives and found some amazing reports that give you kind of a glimpse of gay life here in the san francisco area 43 years ago. it also talks about relationships and how marriage was a debated in the community decades before same sex marriage became legal. >> you're watching pictures of a religious ceremony sanctifying a homosexual relationship. it was performed at st. i'den's episcopal church in san francisco, the closest of two people of the same sex can ghetto legal marriage. making the vows, they are making a solemn commitment to each other. they're making public their homosexuality, their love for each other and their determination to share their lives. >> i think most gay people do not believe in the institution of marriage except as an encumbering thing because we have a view our relationship has a very much more eventualtory quality to it.

it's just about a 40% pass rate. the biggest hurdle is being able to lift one of these 1100 pound motorcyc motorcycle. >> it's a lot of bike. >> you have to lift this up from the ground. >> yes, ma'am. >> all 1100 pounds. >> yes, ma'am. >> reporter: that's a fouf feat. >> yeah. >> reporter: could you do it the first time. >> yes, ma'am. >> reporter: she makes it look easy but she is the first woman to ever join the elite motorcade support unit. it's the division that clears the way for presidential motorcades, maneuvering through washington drid lock, plotting a path for the president and vp. the training and ultimate test to become part of this 14-member team aren't easy. she embarked on a two-week course riding her harley eight hours a day, weaving in and out of tight spaces. the first time she tried she failed. >> when i got my opportunity the first time, i was able to pick it up no problem. i didn't get through course the first time. i was thankful i got a second
