we're back with this dramatic video of good samaritans rescuing a man trapped inside a burning car in oklahoma. police say his car crossed the center line and crashed into another vehicle. >> you can hear the anguish of a woman pleading for help. >> in the name of jesus -- >> you hear pops. after struggling, that man was pulled to safety, taken to the hospital with leg injuries. two people in the other vehicle died. just incredible video there. again, you see that man being dragged out of the car. just lucky to be alive this morning. there's a new development in the search for that missing college student in utah. >> she disappeared more than a week ago after taking a rideshare from the airport. now police are questioning a person of interest. here's abc's clayton sandell.

>> reporter: a ten-day-old case that seemed to go cold heating up. detectives serving search warrants in the case of missing 23-year-old college senior mackenzie lueck, carrying out bags of evidence five miles from the park where lueck was dropped off, meeting someone at 3:00 a.m., then vanishing. >> no arrests have been made. however, the owner of the residence where we served the warrant last night is a person of interest. >> reporter: police say over the weekend someone gave away a mattress and a box spring at that residence and someone with the homeowner's name posted this online ad, giving away a mattress and a box spring for free. >> we ask those who took those mattresses or box springs to please contact the salt lake city police department. >> reporter: investigators now scouring her digital footprint, including cellphones, texting, and dating apps while her worried family waits. for now police are not saying whether that person of interest is the same person that they believe met mackenzie lueck in

good morning, everyone. another big night in america when it comes to politics. night two of the democratic debate. it's great to have stephanie ramos here in for janai norman this morning. d.c. person, we needed you. >> yes, yes, it is so great to be here. we are talking politics. we begin this half hour with the democrats back in the spotlight. this time more combative as they laid out their plans to run the country. >> ten more presidential hopefuls lined the debate stage in miami last night focused on health care, immigration, education, and much more. and former vice president joe biden was forced to defend his record and his recent comments about segregationists. >> let's get right to abc's marci gonzalez live in miami. good morning, marci. >> reporter: kenneth and stephanie, good morning. last night was definitely much livelier than the night before. most who were watching agree that california senator kamala harris dominated this debate. but a few other candidates also

had some standout moments. the democratic party's frontrunners front and center in the contentious nbc debate. vermont senator bernie sanders off the bat outlining his policy proposals. >> we have got to pass a medicare for all single-payer system. we must make public colleges and universities tuition-free. >> reporter: met by immediate disagreement. >> i think the children of the wealthiest americans can pay at least a little bit of tuition. >> reporter: the ten candidates on this stage in miami going after president donald trump -- >> trump is a phony, that trump is a pathological liar and a racist -- >> reporter: at times each other. >> joe biden was right when he said it was time to pass the torch to a new generation of americans 32 years ago. he's still right today. pass the torch. >> i'm still holding on to that torch. >> reporter: vice president joe biden spending part of the night defending himself including on issues of race. >> it was hurtful to hear you

talk about the reputations of two united states senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country. and it was not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose bussing. ofpocross the board. >> reporter: the presidential hopefuls trying to squeeze enough into their one-minute answers to differentiate themselves in this crowded field, sparring at times, while also finding common ground. >> i agree with almost everything here. >> reporter: including on a concept president trump immediately seized upon. >> raise your hand if your government plan would provide coverage for undocumented immigrants. >> reporter: the president tweeting, how about taking care of american citizens first? that's the end of that race. but the race for the democratic presidential nomination continues. all 20 candidates who were on that stage between last night and the night before, as well as a few others who didn't qualify

to be up there, will be out on the campaign trail trying to make sure they make the cut for the next debate which is scheduled for next month in detroit. stephanie and kenneth, back to you. >> marci, thank you for that breakdown. again, a big night. the women, they definitely were outspoken. they did not let the moderators or the other candidates interrupt them. so they had big moments, including kamala harris, who many were saying was the breakout star of night two. >> she was actually the most googled candidate after last night's debate. what's interesting is sure, there were ten candidates on the stage last night, ten the night before. but everyone is trying to do their best to stand out, nudge one another, and just kind of shine. and we've got a long way to go, so it's interesting to see how much of an impact last night's debate actually has on the rest of their campaign. >> a lot of eyes on vice president joe biden and bernie sanders, the top two, biden being the frontrunner of the two.

they both tried to rise high above those attacks. but the experts and those political watchers say it didn't work. and they were very vulnerable. and kamala harris, a number of people really went after them, especially that generational fight that happened on that stage as well. so again, just the first two nights of the first debate, and so we will see others. >> yes, just the beginning. we've got a long way to go, folks. moving on to the man they're trying to replace, president trump opened the g20 summit in japan with a flurry of meetings with allies and other world leaders. the president sounded optimistic about trade deals as he met with prime ministers of japan and india. he also weighed in on resolving the situation with iran, saying the u.s. is in no rush and can take their time. the president also met today with vladimir putin for the first time since the release of the mueller report. the house has approved a $4.6 billion senate bill to deliver aid to migrant families after speaker nancy pelosi reluctantly gave in to republicans and moderate democrats. the vote angered progressives

who called for stronger protections for migrant children. vice president mike pence, he reportedly agreed to two democratic demands, notifying lawmakers within 24 hours when a child dies in custody, and a 90-day limit on housing children in temporary facilities. president trump weighed in from japan tweeting, a great job done by all, now we must work to get rid of the loopholes and fix asylum. the white house is scrambling after a major supreme court decision affecting the next census. the high court yesterday delayed the trump administration's plan to add a citizenship question just days before the 2020 forms were set to be finalized. here's abc's terry moran. >> reporter: president trump's already fighting back against the supreme court's census decision, tweeting from japan, i have asked the lawyers if they can delay the census, no matter how long, until the united states supreme court is given additional information. the trump administration was planning to add a question to the 2020 census asking every person living in the u.s., are

you a citizen? >> can you imagine, you send out a census and you're not allowed to say whether or not a person's an american citizen? >> reporter: the census bureau itself estimated millions of people, mostly minorities, would decline to answer that question and go uncounted, a crucial issue since the census is used to decide how many seats each state gets in the house of representatives and how federal spending is distributed. chief justice john roberts joining the four liberal justices hammering the administration's claim offered by commerce secretary wilbur ross that they added the question only to help enforce the voting rights act, roberts calling that contrived and a distraction, writing, the evidence tells a story that does not match the explanation the secretary gave for his decision. that stinging rebuke announced after roberts sided with his conservative colleagues ruling that federal courts do not have the power to intervene and stop even the most extreme forms of partisan gerrymandering. lawmakers in several states have been using census data to draw

congressional districts for openly partisan reasons, as one legislator admitted in north carolina. >> i propose that we draw the maps to give a partisan advantage to ten republicans and three democrats, because i do not believe it's possible to draw a map with 11 republicans and two democrats. >> reporter: justice elena kagan with an emotional dissent writing, if left unchecked, gerrymanders may irreparably damage our system of government. as for president trump's call to delay the census, that will be tough. congress sets the schedule, and they'd have to vote to change it. the clock is ticking. terry moran, abc news, the supreme court. now to a consumer alert. fisher price is recalling 71,000 inclined sleeper accessories. the company is warning parents to stop using the inclined sleeper accessory that comes with its ultralight day and night play yards.

while her mother was cooking. her parents gave the teen who made that life-saving catch cash as a thank you. >> gosh, i can watch that video over and over again. what an amazing catch. >> it was an amazing save. just to see her fine, that is good this morning. he was at the right place at the right time. >> absolutely. there he is again. wow, wow. she is blessed. back here at home, there is a new development involving president trump's latest accuser. >> two friends have now come forward to share the moment they say writer e. jean carroll confided to them about the alleged attack back in the '90s. here is david wright. >> reporter: two long-time friends of writer e. jean carroll now say she called them shortly after donald trump allegedly assaulted her in a dressing room at bergdorf's in the mid-1990s. >> the minute i was in there he shut the door and pushed me up against the wall and bang, banged my head on the wall. and kissed me. i just -- it was so shocking.

>> reporter: carroll says it got even worse and that she told two friends at the time. today both came forward, joining her for an interview with "the new york times." lisa birnbach, best-selling author of "the preppie handbook" said carroll called her immediately. >> i heard her say repeatedly, "he pulled down my tights." >> reporter: she said in the moment carroll laughed it off. >> i said, what, he raped you? and you said, oh, he kept pulling -- he pulled down my tights. >> reporter: birnbach said she tried to convince carroll to call the cops right away. >> it was horrible. we fought. and i said, let's go to the police. no. come to my house. no, i want to go home. i'll take you to the police. no. it was 15 minutes of my life, it's over, don't ever tell

anybody, i just had to tell you. >> reporter: a few days later, e. jean carroll called another friend, veteran news anchor carol martin. >> from what i could sense of you, "a," you were handling it, as you handle things. >> reporter: her advice very different from birnbach's. >> i said, don't tell anybody. i wouldn't tell anybody this. >> reporter: carroll didn't until now, when she describes the alleged sexual assault in graphic detail in her new book. the president dismisses her claims telling "the hill," i'll say it with great respect, number one, she's not my type. number two, it never happened. carroll has been attacked by skeptics and even now she doesn't use the word "rape" to describe what happened to her, calling it today, an episode, a fight, not a crime. her two friends say they're coming forward now to give her some backup. david wright, abc news, new york. >> our thanks to david there. former presidents george w. bush and bill clinton have honored some special graduates in dallas. 60 people, including doctors, veterans, and educators were recognized for participating in
