good morning to you on this friday, june 28th. look who is here. >> i'm still blinking back the sleep in my eyes. >> very awake. >> mike nicco taking us into the weekend with a very summary forecast. >> all right, deon. you can still see a few stars as we look through the exploratorium camera at pier 15 towards the salesforce tower. waking up temperatures close to where they eve been all week, mid to upper 50s. near 60 at the coast and creep up a degree or two today. you probably won't even notice it. low to mid 70s. 70 to 73 at noon. 73 to 76 at 4:00. if you're heading out this evening, enjoy temperatures around 70 degrees at 7:00. take a look at the rest of the weekend coming up. here is alexis. looking at a little construction slowdown in the east bay. they should be picking up cones any minute now on westbound 580 between fruitvale avenue and

highway 13. it looks like they're either in the process still or haven't quite gotten to that point. the work is scheduled to end at 5:00 today. about a ten-minute delay as you approach the highway 13 split. if you're continuing to the maze, everything looking okay here at the bay bridge toll plaza. car pool lanes are open. no sign of the metering lights yet. want to take you to pleasant hill. new this morning, a pickup truck crashed into a restaurant there. the driver may have been under the influence. you can see the truck went right through some glass windows at the sweet tomatoes restaurant on crescent drive. police officers gave the driver a field sobriety test and arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving. there was no structural damage to the building and sweet tomatoes plans to open on time this morning. now to the latest on night two of the democratic debates. two of the candidates with bay area roots are getting attention this morning for their comments. >> some of them are aid at joe biden. abc 7 news reporter amy

hollyfield joins us in the news room with more on this. good morning. >> good morning. joe biden was the target last night. he will be in friendlier territory today. he has fund-raisers in san francisco today. last night it was the bay area natives who were not too kind to him. tere is a lot of talk going on this morning about senator kamala harris and the moment she faced off with joe biden, calling him out for his opposition of the federal government using busing to integrate schools. >> it was hurtful to hear you talk about the representations of two united states senators who built their representations and career on the segregation of race in this country. you also worked with them to oppose busing. and there was a little girl in california who was part of the second class tointegrate her public schools and she was bused to school every day, and that little girl was me. >> that moment getting a lot of

attention. the first candidate to attack biden was congressman eric swalwell from the east bay. he told the 76-year-old democratic front-runner, it's time to pass the torch to younger candidates. swalwell is 38. the audience gasped when swalwell said it. biden said he will hold on to that torch. standing out pays off. an aide for harris' campaign said they raised more money yesterday than they have on any other day since her launch. that was her biggest day. live in the news room, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. in the east bay democrats gathered in dublin for a watch party hosted by congressman eric swalwell. pride filled their faces as they watched him on that national stage. >> we need leaders. what leaders do is champion things and eric will be a champion. he has been a champion. >> definitely has introduced me to candidates i haven't paid attention to in the past

weeks and also reinforced a couple of my favorites like buttigieg so far. a lot of the women have stepped up to the plate and really playing hardball, and i love that. >> at this particular watch party, front-runner joe biden was considered a little out of touch with the younger generation while bernie sanders still had a strong support base. now to japan and a surprising moment on day one of the g20 summit. president trump face-to-face with vladimir putin jokingly asked the russian leader not to meddle in the 2020 election. it all comes as world leaders discuss a range of hot button issues, from tariffs to iran's nuclear program. abc news reporter karen traverse has the news from osakosaka. >> it wasn't a stern warning, but prompted by a question from a reporter, president trump delivered a message to russian president vladimir putin. >> mr. president, will you tell russia not to meddle in our

election. >> of course i will. don't meddle in our election. >> it was the first meeting since the release of the mueller report which detailed how russia interfered in the 2016 election. mr. trump emphasizing his strong relationship with the russian leader, even referring to him simply as vladimir. >> very, very good relationship. look forward to spending time together. a lot of positive things will come out of it. with election interference addressed in front of the cameras, the two presidents were set to discuss behind closed doors iran, syria and venezuela. global hot spots where the u.s. and russia are on opposite sides. the g20 is an economic summit. security issues loom large. on iran president trump says he's in no rush to engage in diplomatic talks. president trump pulled the united states out of the iran nuclear agreement but says he now wants to negotiate another deal. iran has so far rebuffed his outreach. >> in the end hopefully it's going to work out. if it does, great.

if it doesn't, you'll be hearing about it. >> reporter: tomorrow president trump sits down with china's president xi to try to negotiate a trade deal. the best-case scenario may be another truce, both sides agreeing not to move forward on the threat of new tariffs. karen traverse, abc news, traveling with the president in osaka, japan. a suspect in a deadly freeway shooting in the south bay has been identified as the man killed by park rangers in big sur. 26-year-old kevin alaniz was killed on saturday. the officers say he refused to put his hands up and walked towards him as he pulled out a gun. there was a warrant out for his arrest for a shooting near landis avenue in milpitas earlier this month. 30-year-old matthew rios was killed there. family of fallen officer

tara o'sullivan say they're comforted by the thousands of people that turned out for her memorial service. officer o'sullivan was shot and killed in the line of duty last week. family and friends say she knew she wanted to be a police officer by the time she enrolld in collegiate college park high school in pleasant hill. >> she's one of those rare people who devoured life, doing so while somehow maintaining both strength and kindness in equal measure. >> you can donate to the officer tara o'sullivan memorial fund through a link ot our website, abc7news.com. on the peninsula, san mateo police need your help catching a group of thieves. look at this. they smashed a stolen suv right into this walgreens and drove away with the store's atm. surveillance footage captured the break-in on east third avenue. i happened while the walgreens was closed just before 4:00 on

wednesday morning. officers found the atm a short distance from the store. oakland police and fbi are reviewing surveillance video and interviewing witnesses as they investigate a rare armored car robbery. yesterday two masked men armed with rifles and a handgun targeted two guards and robbed the armored vehicle outside a wells fargo branch on macarthur boulevard. the robbers got away with what authorities are saying was a large succumbed of cash. nobody was injured. oakland police say they haven't seen an armored car robbery since 2006. >> here is a look at our current conditions. temperatures may be a degree or two milder due to the canopy of high clouds. 60 in alameda, oakland 61. everybody else in the upper 50s along the east bay shore. we have 62 in concord, antioch, brentwood mid 60s. 60 to 62 in san jose and mountain view. pacifica at 53 degrees.

here is a look at coit tower which has been showing the colors of the rainbow in support of pride. if you're out and about, mainly comfy today, at the beaches, chilled sunshine. we'll see a little sunshine there today. breezy spots around the bay. no small craft advisory, at least not yet. the weather service hasn't issued one. 58 in the east bay valleys. hit 70 at 11:00. mid to upper 70s this afternoon. a sunny 71 after having high clouds most of the day. that's at 7:00. peninsula you can see high clouds through 3:00. jump through 60 at 7:00, mid 70s this aftenoon. 68 at 7:00 this evening. we jump from the upper 50s this morning to the mid 70s during the afternoon hours down to about 69 by 7:00. weekend is trending just a touch warmer. i'll show you that so you can adjust your plans. here is alexis. how is the compute going? >> overall still looking good, mike. i have two incidents on the

board. neither causing much of a delay. we have reports of a vehicle fully engulfed right now, westbound state route 12 past red top road in the cordelia area. i did see a tiny stretch of red approaching the scene. chp still en route along with the fire department. hopefully everyone got out of the vehicle okay. it sounds like it's contained to the right shoulder. folks are slowing down to take a look at that. we have a disabled semi southbound 880 to whipple road. not the mainline, just the off-ramp in that area. sounds like they're trying to get a heavy-duty tow truck to the scene. speaking of getting around, starting next week the kplut be a little more expensive for a lot of you. three bay area transit agencies are hiking fare prices on monday. this includes muni, the san francisco bay ferry and ac transit buses. you'll pay ten to 50 cents more per ride. some increases only apply to people paying cash. monthly pass prices are also

it's 5:13. if you're just joining us, seven things to know this morning. pleasant hill police arrested this driver in the dui crash. he kravld his pickup truck into the sweet tomatoes restaurant. they hope to open on time this morning. number two, senator kamala harris earning praise from her strong performance in the democratic presidential debate. candidates aimed attacks at joe biden who is in the lead in many polls. president trump voccingly told russia's vladimir putin don't meddle in the election. their meeting is the first since the special counsel concluded russia interfered in the 2016 campaign. taking a live look at the pride flag in san franciso's castro strict. waving a little bit in the air. the city gearing up for the pride parade and celebration. there are events planned through sunday ahead of the big pride parade. i'll have the forecast for

francisco public library. complishnturing h tenure as mayor. it starts at 11:00 this morning. he passed away unexpectedly of cardiac arrest in 2017. president trump expected to sign a border funding bill passed by the house and senate. speaker nancy pelosi reversed her previous call for changes to the senate version demanded by democrats. she told her colleagues the bill was necessary to get migrants help, but house progressives are angry saying the bill doesn't do enough to protect people trying to cross the border. 5:16. facebook is updating terms and services guidelines to clarify exactly how it makes money from your personal data. the guidelines fespell out facebook is free because it makes money from facebook, of course, has come under fire with regulators in the u.s. and europe for the way it handles your personal

information. hundreds of men and women walked san jose in high heels in an effort to combat violence against women. it was the walk a mile in her shoes event. the ywca put the event on. it raises money to support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. no secret is a great cook. >> according to the chronicle, she made the revelation during a podcast interview with sophia omarosa on the girl boss network. when asked to pick a favorite international that wasn't her own, she said it was michael mina's flagship restaurant. she said her favorite thing to order is the tuna tower. >> sounds good right now. >> at 5:17 in the morning, i'll

take it. that sounds great. speaking of the time, you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. mike nicco with a look at your day ahead. mostly cloudy and about 59 re degrees. we'll keep an eye on this and see if there's going to be any delays this morning. we have a canopy of high clouds that will help keep our temperatures below average. partly cloudy tonight. cooler than average once again. a gradual warming trend through my accuweather seven-day forecast. taking a look at the temperatures, heading to santa cruz and the boardwalk, 82 in gilroy. as you head farther to the north. los gatos at about 78 degrees. warm spot, 74 in redwood city. low to mid 70s across the peninsula. low to mid 60s along the coast with a little bit of sunshine from time to time. and then 66 in downtown.

upper 60s in sausalito. mid 60s along the north bay coast. 76 and 75 sonoma, the coolest spots in the north bay. everybody else 77 to 81. san rafael also at 76. we've got 70 in oakland, 74 in richmond. as you head towards fremont, same temperature there. as you go into the valleys, we've got 70s from around san ramon and pleasanton. tonight great sleeping weather again, upper 40s to upper 50s. let's go to the accuweather seven-day forecast, plans tomorrow? it's going to be mild. low 60s at the coast all seven days. pretty much mid 70s all seven days around the bay. mid 70s until we get to the baba sounds good, mike. we're looking at a fairly quiet start. i want to take you to the vehicle fire we have in the cordelia area. fire department has arrived on the scene after several calls in

to chp talking about a vehicle that was fully engulfed. it sounds like the right lane is blocked, the left lane is open. i'm seeing a backup to state route 80. that is probably our biggest backup at the moment. not having too many issues pop on on the board so far. slowing filling in on the san mateo bridge, westbound 90, two lanes moving okay. heavier volume past the toll plaza. drive times looking good although we've flipped into the yellow, westbound 580 tracy to dublin, 34 minutes. 15 minutes westbound 4 antioch to con covered and southbound 101 san rafael to san francisco in the green at 16 minutes. in today's "gma first look" the state of georgia is hoping to find an abandoned baby a new home. >> abc spoke exclusively with child protective services as families are lining up to adopt her. >> reporter: in this morning's "gma first look," an abc news

the centers for disease control and prevention says the vaccine didn't work for the virus that popped up halfway through the season. the flew vaccine was only 29% effective. the cdc says that vaccine turned out to be a mismatch against that later strain. oreos could soon turn green. not literally. the company that makes the or i don't cookie has agreed to buy power from a solar farm, buying enough power to produce about 10 billion oreos each and every year. that's more than half of all the oreos eaten in the u.s. annually. the solar farm should be operational by the end of the year. >> what i'm learning from all of this is the u.s. eats almost 20 billion oreos every year. >> i suppose we shouldn't be surprised judging by our news room. >> that's true. almost always one pack upstairs. an amazing rescue caught on camera. we'll show you exactly what happened. you've got to see it. having a blast without getting burned. a thoughtful reminder about why

we've got the pride parade in san francisco sunday. it starts at 10:30. you can see the route right there. i'll give you 10:00 a.m., 57. staying in the 50s through noon undare mostly sunny sky. a breezy 61 by 1:00. have a great time. with the fourth of july holiday weekend coming up and also fourth of july next week, firefighters and doctors want to remind you that using fireworks on your own can be dangerous and probably illegal. this demonstration by the consumer product safety commission shows how quickly things can go mishaps with sparklers alone injured more than 4,000 children last year. >> they explore the environment about them by touch and feel.

so even if a nearby adult is the one holding the sparkler, all it takes is that split second for the toddler to reach out towards that shiny alluring flame and it's all over. >> all in a minute. some bay area police departments have already seized tons of fireworks before they can be sold and used illegally. this is pretty incredible video. a toddler in turkey is alive than tox the awareness and strength of a 17-year-old boy. take a look at this. that 17-year-old boy is standing in the street. you can see him looking up. then look. he looks away for just a moment and manages to reach out his arms and catch that 2-year-old girl who fell, plummeted from a second story window, and she's just fine. can you imagine what would have happened if he wasn't looking up at that moment. her dad was very thankful. he gave him a 200 turkish lira reward. that's only about $35 for saving

dakota road. one southbound lane was closed. please did notice the water running between depot road and 10th street before 5:30 p.m. water district officials determined it was a water main break underneath the road. police are telling commuters to work leave for work early or take a different route. social media and political analysts praising kamala harris' performance in last night's presidenti preside democratic debate. abc news reporter lana zach in miami with the highlights. a different tone for night two. rfr that's right, natasha, completely different from what we were discussing after after r one. biden not just mentioned, but one pundit said kamala harris

downtown amphitheater in morgan hill to honor 38-year-old xavier souto and 59-year-old brian light. police say the two men were shot and killed at the ford store by steven leet who returned to the dealership after he was fired earlier in the day. last night the vic dims' families and the ford family shared memories. >> always trying to help the customers and all the other people working there. definitely going to be missed and everyone at the ford store is very sad about their loss. >> a gofundme campaign for the victims has already raised more than $78,000ment we posted a link for you on our website, abc7news.com. state regulators have opened a probe against pg&e to investigate whether to hit the utility with fines and penalties for the north bay wildfires in 2017. there is precedent for a huge punishment by the california public utilities commission

against pg&e. in 2015 they slapped pg&e with a $1.6 billion penalty for causing the san bruno pipeline explosion. you may remember eight people were killed and a san bruno neighborhood destroyed in the 2010 explosion. pride celebrations are under way, a million people expected to take part. looking ahead to everything you need to know about this weekend's parade and march. let's get to abc 7 news reporter anser hassan. >> reporter: ladies, it's a little tough to hear with some of the machines out here. san francisco pride weekend is one of the biggest events the city hosts. over a million people expected out here in the city. the pride parade is the main draw. that starts sunday at 10:30 a.m. the roud is simple. it's straight down market street, starting near embarcadero b.a.r.t. station near the civic center.

the civic center is the main area for most of the events. seven to eight stages hosting two full days of activities. be advised, lots of security and lolgts of restrictions to get in. you cannot bring alcohol, no drones, no glass containers and bags can't be bigger than 18 by 18 inches. the theme for this year is generations of resistance. this is the 50th anniversary of the stonewall riots which many say sparked the modern lgbtq movement on the minds of many taking part in this weekend's events. >> almost half of homeless youth are lbgt so our kids are struggling with homelessness, with mental health challenges, with bullying and we need to lift up our youth. >> we'll say, oh, we've come so far. it wasn't that long ago. that wasn't that long ago. >> reporter: the trans march

we only have a few incidents to talk about so far today. i'll take you back to a vehicle fire in solano county. westbound state route 12 past red top road. that's about a 12-minute delay to your drive through that area. i'm sure they have the fire tapped out by now, but the fire department is still there. again, the last update we got said they are blocking the right lane. it looks like that's still the case. definitely plan on delays through that stretch. quick check of oakland area, eastbound 580 off-ramp to the eastbound 24 connector there, we did have a solo vehicle crash. it sounds like they just were able to clear that vehicle away. i did have a little delay in that area. just watched it flip back into the green. drive times looking good, southbound 680 highway 4 to walnut creek. westbound walnut creek to 13 another eight minutes. westbound 580 tracy to dublin into the yellow but not
